Where do we start? Ocean Race, America's Cup, Fastnet, Vendee Globe, Olympics? I don't see AS having much to do with any of them. Now you probably meant WS rather than AS but in this case

Do you have a highly paid Executive Assistant to correct your appalling spelling, usage, punctuation and grammar? If not, then I'm happy to step in and will only charge half your hourly rate. Sorry, just noted the time that you posted. Lunch time. Forgot to factor in the inevitable pinot effect. All good. Situation normal.

Hey Hobart stalkers. As I explained to the recently retired sailing manager of the RYCT who phoned me this afternoon, the above comment was a CELEBRATION of the system that operates in Hobart where the three big clubs cooperate by running a Combined series which attracts and welcomes a huge fleet of competitive boats and crews sailing together, not a CRITICISM. So those weasels behind the scenes lurking and sending emails to the clubs about "complaints" made here by me should perhaps read the posts more carefully. People responding to my comment made the criticism, not me. The lurkers should realise that while my identity is obvious, so too should be that of 42 South. I mean, his boat is named that. As for Snoopy, he's still off fighting the Red Baron. Big thanks to Nick for phoning me. We were able to sort a lot of things out. I guess that if it was RQYS rather than RYCT (of which I'm not even member) they might have engaged the legal team, again showing that Hobart clubs can do things as they should be done.

We have a Combined Clubs Series (RYCT, DSS, & BYC) for the Summer. Each club has it's own pennant within the Combined races. If you elect to pay more you can be eligible for a club's pennant no matter what club you are from. The Combined Clubs Pennant has greater status than the individual ones. In Winter clubs normally run separate pennant series. Anyone is eligible to enter and win. Last year our boat from PESC won the DSS Winter Pennant. This year there was a Combined Clubs Winter Series. A boat from Kettering YC won Div 1 and another came second in Div 2. Our PESC boat came 3rd in Div 2. Seems like Hobart is a bit more open-minded than some other places.

Behind the paywall. Can you cut and paste here please?
  7. I was told today that RQYS sent an email to the Tasmanian owner of the above Melges 32 ordering him to remove the Envy Scooters signage from the boom because the new name of the boat brought the RQYS into disrepute. YCMTSU

And again I can't enter the Summer Pennant not having a fitted VHF but there was no problem sailing in last weekend in the Winter Pennant in 40+ knots on the Derwent without a fitted radio.

    8 Bells Peter Campbell

A great man. A humble man. With no airs and graces for who you were or might be supposed to be, commenting only on performance. I always appreciated that Peter would mention my tiny country club whenever he reported on our results. They don't make them like that any more. RIP

  11. What have you done to piss off the CYCA? Or you just ticking them off the "clubs I have grudge against," list?

They do that in Hobart too, for the entire summer pennant series. Funnily enough the AS IRC Nationals on the same waters only required the normal safety category. Which is why we sailed in that instead.

How can you resist the Temptation?

I'm going to change the name of my boat!

We didn't have enough crew so didn't go out. Good thing it was abandoned before the start so we avoid dropping the DNC. But one of my crew had forgotten to get her sail pass before the race so signed up last night. She had to nominate 6 dates she would sail in a race. The first 5 weren't a problem, the remaining 5 days of the series, but she wanted to know what the hell she should put down for the 6th race when the 2020/21 calendar hasn't been released yet.

I see what the sneaky bastards have done. The Combined Clubs in Hobart (RYCT, DSS, BYC) have decided to offer Sail pass for free. The DSS site also says that you can sail 6 races and then choose one of their "low cost membership options." My initial thought was, why do that, why not just go to the RYCT and get another 6 races? And then go to the BYC and get another 6. That way you could sail the entire winter series (6 races) and the entire summer pennant for free. Not so simple it seems.

And that's why this place is aptly called Sailing Anarchy. You can have the rebels inside the tent pissing out, the revolutionaries outside the tent pissing in, and the anarchists running around the outside of the tent screaming, "Look at me, I've got a big pipe but my dick's not even big enough to piss in it and put it out." @LB 15 @lydia you apparently made a big deal in QLD recently about Sail pass. If you want to stir it up then sign up to the AS webinar. Bitch about it afterwards. Don't mock the process beforehand. Or if you do have the shit, share it here now.

Excuse me? So my crew member who is a paid-up member of PESC needs to pay extra to sail on a PESC-registered boat to race in the Hobart Combined Clubs races? I know that I have to pay membership of a Hobart club to keep my boat there, but do my crew? Does the AS accident insurance (the carrot for joining a club) only apply to sailing in events organised by that club? And if so, is it clear in the fine print that AUSTRALIAN sailing insurance only applies to very small club-defined areas?

There's an SB20 fleet outside Hobart?
  21. (p)Irate

    Australian Sailing

The SB20'S don't need more crew. They need less crew, or a change to the Combined Clubs' SI's which require 1.5m distancing and 3 crew minimum. GRS crewed on the FBYD640 all last year. Why would he want to step down to an SB20? Or ask on Facebook?

    AS approved equipment.

    Australian Sailing

I can't find it either, but you would presume that it might stick with national standards of 1.5m physical distancing. Not a problem on my T7 or the 20+ SB20's in Hobart. Sail 2-up. We do anyway in the annual Autumn Two-Handed Series. So why suddenly the additional clause in the Winter Series NOR, a minimum of 3 crew?

Looks like you need the Long Range Operators Certificate of Proficiency. Best and cheapest way is to buy the handbook from the AMC/OMC website, study yourself, test yourself on the sample questions and then contact an Invigilator to organise your exam. https://www.amc.edu.au/industry/omc/invigilator-search Exam cost is $89. I have seen people charged ridiculous fees for Marine Radio "course." There is no official course for LROCP Marine Radio unless you are studying the following units of competency with an RTO: MARC020, and MARO003 Do these and then send your Statement of Attainment to OMC and they will issue the licence without charging for the exam fee. But your RTO could charge you way more than that.

    Port Esperance Sailing Club

Hi All Some of you may have heard of the recent destruction by arson of the Port Esperance Sailing Club, Australia's southernmost yacht club in Dover, Far South Tasmania. The Club has appointed a Working Group to consult and advise on the rebuild, and after 10 years away from the management of the club I have put my hand up again. So we are seeking opinions from far and wide, from club members, local community members, participants in past regatta and anyone who might have an interest in our little club at the Far end of the world. What would you like to see remain? What would you like to see change? Are you able to help and in what way can you do so? All opinions considered, and yes, I know this is anarchy!
