Oh well. Since we're posting here, we obviously have nothing better to do. So, the forum glitches are just as entertaining as any of the troll threads

This is with an iPad Air 2; previous wasting a newer 6fh generation iPad. Would have to find the non-Lightning charge cord to test with an older iPad —t hasn’t been turned on for a while

No luck with iPad there either. (the Front Page 'leave a reply' button hasn't worked since even before the last forum upgrade. )

Just tested “reply” (to this post) with my iPad. Wasn’t easy. Couldn’t find the login screen at first, but eventually got one through “post new topic.
  5. Flat bumpers can also double as cockpit cushions.
  6. Does the "Leave a Reply" work for anyone? e.g., https://sailinganarchy.com/2021/05/11/king-of-the-jungle/
  7. Appreciated. Have always read your posts with interest. FWIW, gave up on involvement in IOC boat selection--some kind of sailboard--back in the 80s. Realized later the 'sailors' interested in my vote were actually lobbyists for (European?) boatbuilders. (TBF, have also found EYESAILOR's posts worth a second read)

  9. Thanks for digging up that interview. Never heard of that newpaper but rather liked the community it portrayed. https://www.kitsapdailynews.com/news/seabeck-man-uses-traditional-japanse-wood-joinery-to-build-furniture/ Anyhow, also rather liked Roger's attitude, because back in the day when universities were keen on protesting this that and the other, saw friends switch out of physics majors because "nuclear energy" became a dirty word. As Trudeau the older said, when 'politics' becomes a dirty word, that just opens the field to the second rate and the criminal. Figured th
  10. Wonder how many cruisers will email him and offer to rendezvous at the Canal. Nah, such a project wouldn't be 'sustainable.'
  11. Old salts never had vapour trails to follow for backup
  12. First impression was--total leech off the cruisers for a nanny-boat with supplies and accommodation. Apparently not totally: Well, there are those who rowed across the Atlantic in shorter boats, and he's not planning a Great Cape route, so not totally impossible. Thanks for the dreamin', best wishes, but no thanks.
  13. Hmmm. Something similar here, even though we formed a University Sailing Club: 'recruitment' socials showed promise. I vaguely recall the U admin being encouraging, I think they gave the go-ahead to use the indoor pool. Dreams of really big fans to set up a learn-to-sail program using Tumbleweeds (GRP sloop version of the Mirror Dinghy) never came to much. Since most of us were already married, it wasn't about the dating. Oddly, of the 4 or 5 couples I can recall, only one of four couples divorced over the next 45 years. After childhood--the couples that sail together, stay together? BU
  14. Sounds like what I see in our clubs. And? Anything that worked?
  15. Gad, I love this place for LB's sense of irony.
  16. . . . And always will be until we can perfectly predict and handle the weather.
  17. Another stray thought: What if National Authorities or International Class Associations offered "Olympic Ranking" for competitors in classes that *might*--MIGHT, no matter how unlikely-- one day be considered as an official event? (Was thinking how many of the recent VG competitors deserved and 'qualified' for achieving Olympic goals in a non-olympic event) Sorry, OT. Back to the minutes of the latest meetings.
  18. Agree. That also seemed to be the theme of the vid. If tunes can become ear worms, then the mood of that vid is becoming something similar. (though, was irked by the rich elite theme. As if I could relate to having access to such a sleek woody )
  19. The tease of sailing mixed boats? (worked for me) Not sure who this YT group is, but like SailingFilm's answer: "Dream Crew. Sailing is not only the experience with wind, water and the ship, but is also about meeting people." (cred Sailorgirl's tweet for the heads up)
  20. Ah, *that* dream. Have it (and hundreds of tracks imported to OSX over a couple of decades from cheap tools, like Garmin's old GP48 and Navionic's Boating.app) but do not have the solution. So far, though, the Boating.app is winning. Its track and speed overlays can be exported to .gpx but also replayed like videos. Has been adequate enough for idle reflection about what happened on a passage, and to zoom in to see just how bad *that* tack was. Free app was good enough that I fell for the cheap annual subscription. \ This year am playing with overlaying depth sounder info v

  22. Thanks--best reading I've done today. Mentally tested the theory against the the highs and lows of watching the VG/VOR over 10 years. Theory fit well enough that article is now bookmarked. Also tested the theory to see if it might explain why I lost interest in the AC and Olympics, not that my opinion really matters. Still 'testing' to see if a better narrative might happen if kinetics could be replaced by more emphasis on tactics and strategy, where the antagonist is weather. Promising. ( polysemy barely passes the jargon sniff test, though not as bad as trying to appreciate the skill of
  23. OT: he also has the VOR report, and other interesting files in http://honeynav.com/category/lfp-battery-sailing-marine-electrical/ and http://honeynav.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/Pacific-Cup-Weather-Article.pdf (no need for Scuttlebut ) https://forums.sailinganarchy.com/index.php?/topic/205046-volvo-race-high-traffic-density-report/ /end OT Best wishes to all for the upcoming season.
  24. Fine, then. Since money is no problem, put the boat on its trailer/semi, tow it to the glideport, and let the cockpit party begin. As a serious answer, though, our upscale friends spent as much on a small camper ('glamping') as they did for their C&C. Way out of my league, but I could give him a call to find the model if glamping is a possibility. Probably on of "these most popular vanlife options, from affordable outdoorsiness to glitzy glamping"
