  1. Congrats ETNZ, been a fun watch. Now I can go to bed!
  2. Not enough shifts in this for LR to have a shot here....
  3. I gotcha, all good on YouTube with a VPN bummed, because for once, NBC’s broadcast hasn’t been shit (like interrupting a perfectly good race with commercials mid leg), and the HD is actually HD.
  4. F NBC Sports and their shit tape delay ... until 1:30 f’ing AM. And they wonder why we pirate?
  5. Question, is the racing late in the day due to TV, or is it weather in NZ?
  6. Actually he did. Leebowed them back to the left, ETNZ simply tacked away... into a right shift. Tough call. The book says cover, but with the wind phasing back and forth like that, they gotta decide to blow through if they think the wind is going right, or do what they did thinking it’s staying where it is or going left. Didn’t envy having to make that call...
  7. Dozed off and missed the start, woke just in time for the first lead change, now this is some good fun!
  8. I think with the inability to change foils, wind conditions are going to play a part, if they vary wildly from what we saw today. Sail choices will be key.
  9. This, looks like he thought he was early, but he would have been just fine if he’s gone into speed mode.
  10. Great graph they just showed. LR faster through turns upwind. If you think the race is won in the start, it’s the start, AND the first tack. Even if you’re not in an optimal spot on the start, as long as you’re fast, can tack quicker, and can get to speed faster, you’ve got a good shot.
  11. LR pooched the last gate rounding. It goes to show, though, that ETNZ has some fast straight lined speed. LR looks like they can go into point mode better though.
  12. Ask INEOS about that.... upwind boatspeed is key too...
  13. Loved the bit afrer the second start with the boat heading lines as they maneuvered. LR looks higher and faster upwind, ETNZ faster and lower downwind.
  14. Something to remember on that maneuver, if the wind was phasing left, then taking the left gate absolutely the right move. Say taking the right gate cost a 100m, heck that’s the cost of a turn in these boats, so why give up extra? So I can easily see the rationale. Right gate was definitely safer though. Edit to add: I thought at the time that when AM went to tack that they were taking a risk, and was a bit surprised they didn’t go with the conservative rounding.
  15. Of course it is. But that amount of salt water is gonna leave salt no matter how much you fresh water wash...not making excuses of course.
