Sounds like a variation on the poker table bit - if you look around the table and can't tell who the sucker is... it's you. I've mostly got great neighbours. One of them grooms the grass verges on all the roadway for 1/4 mile from his house - they look like putting greens. O/K, that's weird enough that we give him a lot of space but it makes the whole area look nice. Two brothers own the two houses behind us and they are Karens/Kyles but a 25' cedar hedge takes care of that. When they started building my wife pointed out to one of them that they had a culverted underground stream running across the middle of their property. "We know what we're doing - we're contractors" (they weren't). He busted through when digging the foundation and has had a sump pump running 24/7 for the past 29 years. Needs a gen set for power outages because the entire basement will fill to ground level overnight if it's not pumped. He knew what he was doing.

Famous designer and famous builder but there is an enormous amount of fairing required. Have you ever built any kind of boat before? If not then don't even think about it. Building from a big hull is one of the greatest dream and marriage killers known to man. Have you considered why it's been sitting at that stage for 1/2 century? Old rule of thumb for pro builders was 800 hours per ton of disp. - you do the math for an amateur. I started with a build of a 26' and it took years. I'd recommend restoring something smaller and scruffy but complete for a first effort.

Probably the dumbest one ever around here was a houseboater on Okanagan lake. Big rental - probably 40'+ with about 60 people partying on the top deck - rolled it over like Anacortes Flipper. IIRC a woman died trapped inside and everyone else went in the water but I can't remember the details for certain. Another really stupid one was a big cruiser - 45' or so that was returning at night from the fireworks display in English Bay. Ran between a tug and its tow - cleaned the bridge off and people died.
