I guess it's true that all the good comics are from Canada. OK, let's skip the tourist shit and focus on sailing. What week-night beer can races run out of Del Rey?

Try pinging Project Mayhem, StripClubJunkie or Former MDR Vandal. For a start........

Btw, do NOT venture east of the 405 after dark.

'thought the theory was "there's no life beyond a mile inland"

Oh, wait.....that's Orange County

In the 80's there was a store selling t-shirts that said There's No Life East Of PCH. Not bad, but we had our own made up that said There's No Life East of Highland. Which is basically the stret about 200 yards up from the wet sand...........

Try to snag a boat out of Alamitos Bay or Long Beach Yacht Clubs. Nicer sailing inside the breakwater down at Long Beach.

Then again - there is all sorts of interesting shit that could happen if you do....

Bedford - search in GA - we've done the 411 on LA for lots of peeps. U are a big city perp, so basic big city rules apply - i.e. the more money you have the more doors that will open and the more fun you will have. Great food, best shopping, a list talent (of many types), and a potpourri of activities - sailing, surfing, skiing, hang gliding, gliding, hiking, museum going, shopping, eating, beach volleyball, girl watching (a sport btw), gang warfare, etc.... It's a mix of reality and fantasy, not unlike the movie industry....

Oh - my fav club just expanded - Pico/Barrington in the 310 if you need some GFE action from some employment challenged young ladies....

Highland? Isn't that some nasty town by San Bernardino? You know, right before you go up the hill to Big Bear? Maybe next time you make the shirts you can put Highland St. or Ave. or something to differentiate. There's certainly no life in Highland except gang life, and that's no life at all. Even by LA standards.

Anyway, it's not like this is OZ and it's the middle of summer. Weeknight beer cans are only in summertime. It's winter here, you know, and take a look outside, it's kinda ugly outside and something like 60 degrees. Nobody goes sailing around here in this kind of weather. You have to wear clothing. And since everyone in SoCal usually sails naked, sailing in this weather is not an option. Definitely do as SCJ advises, find yourself a nice place where the atmosphere is dark and the ladies are naked. Lot more fun than freezing your ass off on a boat right now.

Wow, that is right by my old High School. The Westside sure isn't what it used to be.

BTW, rent a car and drive up the coast. Or go skiing ...

AWOL -- Always West Of Lincoln

Bedford -- there's a race in Newport on Sunday, I'm not sure where the boat I'm racing on is with crew, PM me if you're interested and I'll check. We had another anarchist out last month that was in town for Christmas.

If you're arriving back to Marina del Rey from the Malibu Race,

and if there isn't any other racing to be had, the best

beach scene in LA county is in Hermosa Beach, with

Manhattan Beach between it and LAX (which is in El Segundo).

Personality of Hermosa: 20s/30-somethings nightclubs and beachgoing,

kickback surfer atmosphere during day, "models" at dance nightclubs

at night. Used to live there; PM me for more info if you need it on

either Hermosa or Manhattan Beach.

Personality of Manhattan Beach: 30s/40s/50-somethings,

pubs with music at night and beachgoing/shopping during the day...

trendy rather than surfer-ish. There is a mall with a movie

theater fairly close to downtown Manhattan Beach.

No one really does anything in LA...downtown LA is just

a bunch of business buildings, but maybe there might

be a sports team playing at the Staples Center (Kings or Lakers).

Hollywood at night = making a comeback. Might be worth

it to check out the Sunset Strip...at the very least, drive

the neon at night. Put your street smarts on.

Theme Parks = Disney is in Orange County, Universal is near

Hollywood.

A really nice time might be renting a car (as advised);

Santa Barbara is 1.5 hours north of Malibu, straight up

the coast...can't go wrong there, and you might find

some sailing, to boot.

If you want to check out some great beaches and topography

that looks just like like Italy and 'art' - Laguna Beach is one hour

south of Manhattan Beach/LAX, take the 405 due south until you

hit the Laguna Beach exit...the road you exit onto will take you straight to

the ocean in seven miles. Totally rocks. A variety

and plenty of shopping, great restaurants, and the biggest art gallery

town in all of California. Very laid back, very surfer. Used to live there,

PM me for more info if you need it.

Newport Beach is six miles north of Laguna, and Dana Point

is six miles south of Laguna, and are the biggest sailing centers

south of LA other than Long Beach (which is right between LAX

and Laguna), and San Diego (one hour south of Laguna).

Hope this helps - have fun! :)

If you are single, you should go to the Promanade in Santa Monica (near UCLA), lots of very hot tang there.

Check out the weirdos on the Strip.

Eat some great Mexican food.

Go to J town (little Tokyo) near down town LA

The Museum of Natural History and the La Brea Tar pits are near Down Town too (both good visits).

I'm going to be in LA New years eve through Jan 6th...Any suggestions what else I should do?

When in LA, do like the locals do...

Take two of these...

post-7006-1262141342_thumb.jpg

Hang @ the Shack. In Playa Del Rey south side of

MDR harbor entrance. Cab ride from CYC is $6-7

post-7006-1262141394_thumb.jpg

If you have more than one Shackburger during your stay,

the Shack has defibrillation paddles for rent on the cheap.

With a little luck, you may get a little of this...

post-7006-1262141366.jpg

Enjoy your stay!

Then get the fuck out! Roads are crowded enough without

one more snowbird hockey playing Canuck blabbing on his

BlackBerry going 37 mph on the 405 when we're all in a big-ass,

goddamn hurry.
