Interesting. Maybe they'll be serving the same thing up next week too.

Just saw proposed division changes:

Glory Days and Chiaka Div. 6 to Div. 5

Wild Child, Kinsale, Excalibur, Shearwater, Div. 5 to Div. 4

First Rate, Rita, Live Wire Anarchy and Maccabee remain in Div. 4.

Thoughts?

Wait, Snaggie are you saying he isn't even around?

WFT, he pissed and moaned to get the date changed so it wouldn't overlap with CPYCOD Regatta, then he doesn't use blast e-mails to promote the event, almost cancels it, and now you are telling me he isn't even around to run the event????

Expo, youz gots lot a splainin' to do.

He's just seeking a little negative attention Snaggie. Best he can do.

Of course if he would like to volunteer, he can take over the position of handicap race schedule coordinator. Perhaps learn first hand the complexities of moving events around. How to avoid schedule conflicts. Convince 5 or 6 other folks to move their events so one can have a choice weekend to run theirs. Nothin' to it that several months of negotiating can't resolve. I bet he could do a bang-up job of it.

Espo who?

Sunday turned out be be ok. The second race was in good breeze with very close finishes: a 9 second span from 1st to 3rd place.

Congrats to Team Whirlwind, winner of CI Cup.

Just be glad I didn't race or you would have been 3rd and Thin Man 4th

It would have been better if you raced non-spin vs. Eagle and Wolf.

Nah, it would have been more depressing for the rest of the spin boats if I sailed with them

Can't wait for another great season! Who's in?

Hey, I'm glad to see the progressive nature of rules adoption at EBYRA. I didn't know this was allowed on a centerboard boat while racing.

Qte

Mine is the keel/centerboard model, and I wish I had the fin keel

version -- mostly because I worry about the wire breaking (just had it checked

by a diver) but also because my pit person groans every time she has to winch

it up on downwind legs.

Unqte

Nice !

I dont know

Is a daggerboard the same as a lifting keel on a 40 footer designed to be adjusted during racing?

I doubt Gaynor/Emily would have sealed up their keel trunk and taken the rating adjustment years ago. That centerboard

would have come in handy occassionally.

What is the reg regarding this in PHRF sailing?

If the centerboard is adjustable, does it have to be in one place for the whole race?

PHRF exact wording is:

'Lifting keels (not designed to be adjusted while racing) must be fixed and locked in a lowered position while racing'

It appears the operating phrase is "designed to be adjusted while racing." This probably means a boat can sail upwind with the centerboard (lifting keel, daggerboard, etc.) fully retracted and retain its stability while doing so.

Thus Lifting Keels, Centerboards, Daggerboards designed to be adjusted while racing is acceptable.

MORC boats (Evelyn 26, S2 7.9, etc.) allowed board up and down with the same rating.

CCA, IOR, MHS, IMS, IRC all allow(ed) this sort of a configuration with an adjustment to the rating.

Some boats, like the J95, are designed with over 90% of its ballast in the fixed keel, the rest in the centerboard. The J95 is capable of sailing safely with a large asymmetrical and still retains it positive stability.

How the YRALIS PHRF Committee interprets this, and how and if a penalty is applied, is probably variable from year to year.

Any of you City Island mavens familiar with the red Dehler 3/4 ton Necesse? Heard she was on the hard at either Consolidated or the City Island YC.

I knew the boat sat for a long time, but launched and sank? Damn thing was built like a proverbial tank.

No boat deserves that fate.

Any idea of the gory details?

Just checked the EBYRA  website/scratch sheet. 14 boats signed up.

Really sad to see. A fine place to do some sailing on a Wednesday evening. Guess that's what;s happening to sailboat racing everywhere.

Not even any J24"s anymore?

Six boats in the weds night series.  Jesus.  Who’s in charge over there?

It's not who's in charge, as much as it's 2 out of the 3 clubs who are part of the corporation running a Friday night series to compete with EBYRA.

Good thing I got fired April from a job I volunteered for
