Jono 42 #1 Posted October 18, 2017 The West Coast of USA is no longer the last bastion of large Multis sailing for fun. While Sean Langman came and played in NZ for one Coastal, The Beau Geste team has arrived in town with the new boat. I understand it was a Phaedo? And Spithill is on the Orma (ex Vodafone Sailing). Plus there are a heap of other multis for the 120 mile dash up the coast
MR.CLEAN 3,842 #2 Posted October 18, 2017 she's Phaedo 3, an improved MOD70, which racked up about three dozen major and minor records over the past few years and won overall honors in most of the races she competed in. In anything but ultralight weather, she destroys any ORMA...if the crew is up to snuff and filled with people who know big multis. Otherwise, she breaks or flips! Steve 78 #36 Posted October 21, 2017 I continue to be very impressed with the performance of the 8.5m class cats. I cant think of any other boat of any type anywhere that offers anything close to the bang for the buck. Many of the boats are of plywood construction, some are designed and built by their owners and yet, looking at the finishing orders they all appear to perform similar to the many Fast 52/TP 52 monos where the mainsail alone probably cost as much as some of these boats.
