Laura Ingraham should be on that list too.

Tang, and there was those gross peanutbutter, or chocolate, or berry flavored "space sticks" I don't remember what they were actually called, but they were seriously gross, and came out around the same time as "Tang".

That stuff is great for cleaning scale of dishwashers in hard water areas.

Seriously - put a packet of Tang in the soap dispenser and the tub will come out looking like new.

Lots of citric acid I suspect.

I knew about Poon Tang before it was famous.

I had a skipper who mixed dark rum and tang for sunset drinks on the Transpac.  Called it "poontang".  It was nasty.  Not as bad as rum and gatorade, but nasty.

Which further reminds me of the Firesign Theater.  "Don't go in there, son.  It's dark and nasty."

Nevermind.

It is worth noting that little shit from Kentucky, the eye doc who created his own Board, Senator Paul, was the only person in the Senate who did not applaud Officer Goodman.

He was also the only one not wearing a mask.  He deserves a serious boot in the nuts.

Got that right. Also: one was willing to give his life to stop the insurrection, one was quite willing to go along with it for as long as it worked.

You're right! home of Enron.

Source: Dallas Morning News

Some retail power companies in Texas are making an unusual plea to their customers amid a deep freeze that has sent electricity prices skyrocketing: Please, leave us.

Power supplier, Griddy, told all 29,000 of its customers that they should switch to another provider as spot electricity prices soared to as high as $9,000 a megawatt-hour. Griddy’s customers are fully exposed to the real-time swings in wholesale power markets, so those who don’t leave soon will face extraordinarily high electricity bills.

... snip ...

Texas is home to the most competitive electricity market in America. Homeowners and businesses churn power providers there like credit cards. In the face of such cutthroat competition, retail power providers in the region have grown accustomed to offering new customers incredibly low rates, incentives and, at least in Griddy’s case, unusual plans that allow customers to pay wholesale power prices as opposed to fixed ones.

The ruthless nature of the business has power traders speculating over which firms might have been caught short this week in the most dramatic run-up in spot power prices they’ve ever seen.

But but but...  Texas is suppose to be the cheapest place to live in the country.  Look at all the smart guys bailing on Silicon Valley to move to the best place on earth.  Has someone been telling fibs?

Mark Twain wrote: "If I owned Hell and Texas, I'd live in Hell and rent out Texas." But there are some nice places there if it's not high summer.

It may be specific to Texas about the electric utilities not making anough money to reinvest; most other places I know about, that is absolutely not true. And while it was a while ago now, most utilities were given access to very cheap capital by the government, to encourage improving the power grid in places outside the most profitable metro markets. So they are really pocketing tax money and then blowing you off when you ask for the reliable power you paid for.

Another corporate fuck story brought to you by Republicans

Yep, move there because it's so cheap.  Buy that split-level for pennies on the dollar, and then wake up to find...you're living in Texas.  There ain't nothing to do except golf and shoot at Bud Light bottles.

Once I had a night to spend in Houston.  First time I'd been there.  I reserved a nice hotel downtown and went for a stroll to find a place to eat.  After walking about 10 blocks came across a decent-looking bistro, with sidewalk tables and an Italian menu.  The Owner invited me in.  I said, "I'm just strolling, seeing what the options are.  He simply said, "You'll be back."

I was.  Not a single other restaurant was open.  In "downtown".  At 7:00pm.  on a Thursday night.  Apparently there were some "gentlemen's clubs" to buy membership at, but that was it.

Turned out to be a good meal and a nice chat with the folks who ran the place, who were all from Seattle.  Spouses of some relocated NASA Engineers.  Bored to tears and hoping to be part of a city, with not much hope.  You could have played a full 3 sets of tennis on main street (whatever they call it) and not have been disturbed by a car or bus.

Texas set up their own electric grid about fifty years ago to avoid federal regulations. Serves them right that they now cannot get power from any neighboring states. And their idiot Republican governor Abbott is now blaming AOC for their non-functional wind turbines, all of which were installed longer before AOC was elected. And they are non-functional because they bought cheap ones that don't handle cold (ours in Illinois are spinning just fine, despite even colder temperatures and much more snow). Then he goes on local TV and acknowledges that the problem is actually frozen natural gas supply systems. Why frozen? Because they depended on cheap gear not designed to handle cold, unlike northern states whose NG is flowing just fine, thanks. Finally, appealing to the feds for assistance, having spent his political life condemning feds for trying to regulated things. Stupid fucker! Of course, texans are too stupid to figure out that they are fucked because the insist on electing republicans. Maybe just some of those who are freezing and who have busted water pipes wrecking their homes will think again next time they have a choice, but don't bank on it.

You see, when God does the wrecking, the disasters, then it's up to other states who are Godless heathens to pay for the repairs. When the disasters are in Godless states, then it's up to the Godless states to pay for the repairs.

This is what God wants, and why God loves us... Because we are the chosen. That God tempts us with brazen hussies that call themselves our stepdaughters, or that he demonstrates his almighty power by sending in hurricanes, floods, drought, tornadoes, blizzards, just proves that he loves us. The proof of this is that he commands the other states to bail us out every time.... And they do!... AMEN!
