What did you think of the Etchells NA's?

Good regatta overall.

Wednesday was a long ass day for only two races, but thats why we were there, to race, so all good. Sucked missing the Fosters girls though. Definately a good argument for a dedicated support boat.

I was surprised that we didnt do three races on Friday though. Plenty of breeze and starting the day with the 4 leg course we were sure that Tom would run three.

Highlights include:

Excellent competition.

Fosters Girls.

Weber grill giveaways.

2nd place in 1 race.

Accomodations ( Ocean Yachts 53 sportfish(all amenties included)( thanks Caribou)

"Free Parking"

Excellent PRO and RC management

Didnt have to do any 720's or have any letters in our scores.

Awards Dinner food was "out of this world" . Might have been the 18 rums that I conusmed prior, but damn that steak hit the spot.

Improvments could be made:

Dock assignments. we recieved 2 maps that showed our "spot" Neither was correct and after docking and tying up TWICE, we were told a third time that "over here" is your spot. Great spot after we finally located it. Wouldnt have been nearly the big deal it was at the time if it had not beeen 110F in the shade.

Sponsor party / Raffles. Finally on Friday they figured it out and had the food ,etc, upstairs in the AC. I didnt hear of anyone who wanted MORE sun or heat, so outside seemed to be quite poorly attended. Inside was much better.

Haulout procedure. As soon as Dennis moved his boat the floodgates opened. Everyone was "staging" their boat as close to the hoist as possible. Nice concept and for Dennis it worked fine. Everyone else though..... The key was the TRAILER staging as there wasnt enough room to jockey trailers around. Fortunatley we realized this early and succeded in staginf our trailer well enough to be 5th or 6th out, but it was a challenge and certainly many people were unhappy about the lack of communication and/or plan on the part of the host.

Awards Dinner. This is not anyones fault ( except the competitors that left) but it was pretty sad that neither Jud (1st) or Dennis (2nd) stayed for the awards. I am sure that neither of theese guys were driving their boats home so a little later flight west might have been more appropriate.

Overall it was a good regatta and I would love to see more regattas out of the Belmont station.

Also a big thanks to Seductress for the tow in after the practice race on Tuesday. and the replacement SI's on Wednesday morning( not to mention the donated time and effort on the RC), Both were above and beyond and greatly appreciated!!

Not completely sure about the protests, But from what I heard the first protest would have been easy to solve (not 3 hours worth) with a quick trip to inspect the damage to the boats. The protestor claimed thigns that weresimply not true and even with the proof (the hole in protestee's boat is on the OTHER side then where the protestor says it is) it took some time. I know one of the judges and he is TOP NOTCH (Alan Teske), If he took that much time then I would bet there was a good reason.

Where did you get the idea that the protestor's information was wrong. The damage to the protestor's boat was starboard bow and the protestee's damage was port side at the shrouds. Also there were witnesses from people that were not racing that confirmed the protestor's story. I saw the paper, the facts found were similar to the protestor's protest.

BTW- Thanks for the kind words about the regatta. I will print them and send them off to the club and Ricky. Rick did an outstanding job, from my point of view.

This is why I prefaced with " not sure about the protests", and " this is what I heard"

I was speaking with the skipper of the protested boat and he gave me his version. It is my understandng that it all got dropped anyway. I also asssume that we are talking about the same protest etc etc etc. Involved USA1171 and 822? Ithink...

the 1177 and 822 protest was dropped when 822 looked at the damage to the boats.

regatta was very well run. ricky, the sponsors, the rc and all the employees of belmont station deserve our thanks.

with regards to haul out, hard to critize the organizers for that one. i am sure they were planning on sailing on saturday and when we didn't it just became a free for all. especially since the opening of the bar coincided with the abadonment signal.

thanks again to the chicago etchell fleet.

It was crazy to see how far behind the Chicago Fleet was. You think with 20 boats sailingy regular that they could compete.
