Let's see... one of the wealthiest guys in America, who can afford a $10K/ night call out service with no questions asked, gets a $50 corner store handjob, is caught with incriminating photos and vid, and decides he'd rather fight prosecution on the national front page?

Damn the bad press!!!

He really is a Trump accolyte.

The rich really are different!

This won't be followed like the OJ trial.  When the spotlight passes a deal will be done.

Perhaps the prosecutor is an ambitious person who will abuse the public trust to advance the career.  Hasn't happened before.

I've had a number of dealings with our local elected DA over the years.....3 of them now. Each time I felt like I needed a shower afterwards. The ADA's were pretty decent folks though.

"Abuse the public trust" is an odd way to say "enforce the rule of law."

The fact that you don't like the law doesn't mean it isn't part of their job to enforce it.  Some might even say the deterrent value of such prosecution might keep hundreds of young women safe down the road.

If floridians don't like the law, maybe they should stop electing fundamentalist scumbags

The rules are different for those who live along that stretch of real estate from Jupiter down to Palm Beach.  With this happening in Jupiter, it's a Martin County thing, so it is possible that folks up there did not plan on playing by Palm Beach rules.

Read about the Roxanne Pulitzer divorce.  Not a criminal case (though it could have been given their recreational habits), but a great example of how it works.  The old money always wins, and the loser gets banished to the mainland and WPB.

I would like to see how you feel on the wrong end of prosecuturial abuse by the state DAs or Feds.  They make (salacious) charges (to boost their visibility and careers) and you are deemed guilty in the private and public eye.  Family.  Career.   All tragically affected.  No matter if the ultimate resolution is not guilty.  It becomes a footnote.  This phenomenon is happening with increased frequency lately.  Its been a political and career advancement tool.  Innocent until proven guilty?  Whatever.

Scary.

Completely scary, and yes I am highly aware of how unbalanced and unfair our criminal justice system is.  Not only have I been on the wrong end of prosecutorial misconduct, in the same case the cop lied in court and only because he was an idiot and contradicted his own police report was I able to get a good deal.

If you think it is 'happening with increased frequency lately', you have not been paying attention at all.  What's happening is that white people are finally on the wrong end of the stick too (occasionally, at least) these days, so to you it appears that it is happening with increased frequency.

Thanks to the Epstein fight, we might actually see a prosecutor (or a Cabinet Member) have to answer for the pieces of shit they are, and the lives they have destroyed.

Locking people up or even putting a conviction next to their name is the awesome power of the state.  Those who cower in their homes only to come out and vote for more rules, more laws, more punishment and more walls can only be defeated when you know there is another side.  Not a perfect side, but one party has a history (not perfect) of believing in the pursuit of happiness not just the sanctity of property. They are not exclusive.  Vote.

No matter. Pursuant to the Dog/Lerner standard, any apology can be stretched into a full confession for anything up to and including kidnapping the Lindbergh baby. What the person actually said or apologized for is to be forgotten.

You know, I read the apology and I thought it could be pretty sincere. I think he is just embarrassed....who wouldn't be. It seems clear he was not aware of or thought about the potential circumstances of the women working there and the charges are only related to soliciting so it seems the DA believes that as well. At 77 and being rich and famous getting a handjob at some seedy massage parlor is certainly a lapse in judgement but hey....................who among us can claim they've never done anything stupid when it comes to getting some. If he wasn't rich and famous it would get zero attention. I kinda feel sorry for him.

Not to mention the loss of his wife.  I get it and I am sympathetic, but I must have some fun with it because of the Patriots angle.

We had a rather wealthy next door neighbor when I was growing up, the owner of a large marine products company who didn't feel the need for a mansion.  Nice guy, let me pretend to work on all of his antique cars and toys.  Rich enough to be eccentric, not weird.  He died before I was old enough to understand the women being dropped off at his place by taxi a couple of times a week, for an hour or two at a time.  Holy cow that guy had great taste in women, in retrospect.  I am quite certain that similar services exist up in Jupiter present day.

Martin County is very different from Broward. Reliably right. Lots of big money there, because PB is full.

A flaming bag of dog poo can win in Broward if it is a D. Trump can win in Martin, especially now that he is delivering for the billionaires.

His legal A team is already at work.

Evidently the judge had granted access to investigators, but not video taping in the building.

Expect any video evidence to be thrown out as inadmissible.

Only issue I see is the blow back from Jessie Smollet case that people of means get a pass compared to the rest of us  (aka Claus von Beulow, OJ etc).

The sympathy/awe factor in the jury may not be there this time.

Shaping up to be good contest.

Her disturbingly low voice was apparently a front, meant to make her seem more....I don't know....powerful???  My daughter was listening to a podcast about her and one co-worker was there when she'd had a couple and spoke in her real voice, which was apparently that of a high school sophomore. She fooled a lot of people including a Stanford professor who said she was the kind of leader you meet once in lifetime...

I heard that same podcast, people reported that when she was drinking, she would sometimes slip back into her natural voice, and octave or two higher than her intentional lowering for the reason you stated.  More powerful, and more CEO-ish....

Theranos (/ˈθɛrəns/) was a privately held health technology corporation,[2] initially touted as a breakthrough technology company, but subsequently infamous for its false claims to have devised blood tests that only needed very small amounts of blood.[3][4][5]

Founded in 2003 by then-19-year-old Elizabeth Holmes,[6]

Theranos raised more than US$700 million from venture capitalists and private investors,[7] resulting in a $10 billion valuation at its peak in 2013 and 2014.[8][9]Investors and the media hyped Theranos as a breakthrough in the large blood-testing market, where the U.S. diagnostic-lab industry posts annual sales of over $70 billion. Theranos claimed its technology was revolutionary and that its tests required only about 1/100 to 1/1,000 of the amount of blood that would ordinarily be needed and cost far less than existing tests.

A turning point came in October 2015, when investigative reporter John Carreyrou of The Wall Street Journal questioned the validity of Theranos' technology. The company faced a string of legal and commercial challenges from medical authorities, investors, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services(CMS), state attorneys general, former business partners, patients, and others.[10] By June 2016, it was estimated that Holmes' personal net worth had dropped from $4.5 billion to virtually nothing.[11] The company was near bankruptcy until it received a $100 million investment from Fortress Investment Group in 2017.[12] In September 2018, the company ceased operations.

In July 2016, Theranos received sanctions from the CMS, including the revocation of its CLIA certificate and prohibition of Holmes and other company officials from owning or operating a lab for two years.[13] Theranos announced it would close its laboratory operations and wellness centers to work on miniature medical testing machines.[14] In April 2017, Theranos said it had reached a settlement agreement with CMS.[15] Following the CMS sanctions, the Walgreens pharmacy chain terminated its contract with Theranos and filed a lawsuit claiming continuous breaches of contract. The suit was settled out of court, with Theranos compensating Walgreens for a much smaller amount than the claimed $140 million, reported at about $30 million.
