2) Gets stomped to death by elephant

3) Gets eaten by lions

Good news. The world is a little better place now.

There should be a law against hunting big game like that.

Those fucking Trumps wouldn't dare go hunting big game unless it was a canned hunt.

Their bone spurs would prevent it otherwise.

There's a part of me that would love to go on safari.... With a stunningly large caliber gun, and well trained guides. I'd go out in to the Timbavati, or the other national preserves, and just pick off these assholes as they sighted in on defenseless animals. Perhaps I wouldn't kill them. just shoot their arms off and keep them as trophies.....

Perhaps pull their teeth out as they lie writhing in the dirt in mid day with the ants crawling over them..... Or just pull the scalp off their heads, and let them bleed out slowly.

I have no problem with killing for food, or killing pests (The damned rabbits tonight had both the cats, and the dog in full tilt mode), But killing for sport is like rape. It's just doing it because you can.

And we all know that's the truth, whether we admit it, or not.

Been to Kruger Park where this happened. It is a magical place and I am glad the elephants and lions are on patrol. Elephants are the biggest danger to tourists in the park. I assume this would apply to poachers as well. We went there with another cruising couple when we had our boats in Richards Bay. There is an elephant feature in one of the museums and they tell you how to look out for the pachyderms with an attitude - ears flapping, head rocking, and peeing down the legs. Next day we saw a solitary male  exhibiting all those behaviours on a narrow road with high banks. We thought it best to back away as it started coming towards us - not a charge but more like a quick jog. A little Hyundai rental with four people and all their crap does not go very fast backwards I found out. It did not help that all those onboard kept telling me to go faster when I had the it floored.

The "rules" except for a few places are made to suck as much money out of rich, under-civilized American assholes as possible with the patina of "legal hunting", while a few beasts still roam semi-free.  Meanwhile delusional, sex-addled Chinese just shovel money at the poachers to get their precious rhino horn viagra.

The tRump bros couldn't last a week - maybe not a night - out on their own in the wild.  The irony of one of them getting stomped by an elephant would be almost too much.

I had gone to a private game park about five years before the Kruger visit and saw all of the Big Five except for Cape Buffalo. When we went to Kruger I hoped to see one. We got stopped by a herd crossing the road. Before we knew it there were animals passing both front and back of us. Had to be a thousand or more of them. They seemed quite like cattle but we were in a car.

That's the thing about Cape Buffalo. They seem quite like cattle, until they don't. Nobody expects the Cape Buffalo.

Nope, it's true.

"Despite being vegetarian, hippos are considered the most dangerous terrestrial animal on the African continent. On average, they are responsible for the deaths of almost 3,000 humans every year. Male hippos are exceptionally territorial and will actively defend their section of river or lake from perceived intruders. Females will attack any animal that comes between them and their offspring. Hippos can run at speeds of over 30 km/ph on land, and may weigh over 3,300 lb/ 1,500 kg. A male hippo's canine teeth can exceed 20"/ 50 cm. "

You actually CAN do that. I remember reading a National Geographic article years ago about a game warden from the USA going to Africa to work for a year. He and his African colleagues got their guns and headed out into the bush. He was highly surprised - to say the least - to find out their job was to shoot poachers, not arrest them.

I just did a safari in the Nairobi National park a couple of weeks ago.  Saw 3 of the big 5 - Rhino, Lion and Buffalo.  Amazing animals!  It was a self-drive safari through the park and we came around this bend in the road and there is a pride of lions lounging in the shade of this big bush.  Probably about 8-10 lying there and we were literally about 10 ft away.  A couple of the females raised their head lazily, looked at us (probably rolled their eyes) and went back to sleep.

We are planning on doing the Masi Mara sometime this spring.  The only shooting I'll be doing is with a Canon and a long lens L-glass.  I've the 100-400mm but thinking I wish I had the 600mm lens, but I would have to mortgage my house for that. :o

Get this one, under 300$ for a week's rental.  Pair it with a 2x extender and its own body and you have a 600F4 full setup for under 600$ for the trip (and they are very cool to work with).  Worth every penny for that range.

Grab one for a second camera. 600mm equivalent, good videa, and splashproof. Cheaper than a good Canon lens too ;)

Yep.  I'm actually in Africa right now and going to go on a safari either Tues or Wed.  I'm armed with a very large caliber camera.  But like you, I would pay big money to hunt big game - the two legged kind that poach these beautiful animals over here.  And yes, I would kill them and leave them for the cats to eat and not shed a single tear.

I am personally not a hunter for sport.  However, carefully managed - I don't have a problem with it.  I've got a good friend (old retired guy - who I suspect was a made-guy from NY/NJ) in Vegas whose house is decorated with big game heads from all over the world.  The usual deer, ilk, bear, etc. from N. America - but also some beautiful animals from Africa.  I was very uncomfortable with that, especially a few of the cats, and we had a long chat about the sport.  He did it back in the 60 and 70s before the wildlife endangerment issue really started to gain momentum.  He explained in some countries - Zimbabwe, Kenya, Tanzania, SA, etc - the $$ impact of these very controlled hunts would go a long way to helping maintain some of the game preserve parks in these very shaky and poor economies.  And that without it, the animals overall were in greater danger as it would be that much harder to enforce against the poachers who were killing everything they could get their hands on.  He also said the meat of what they killed would never go to waste.  The guides would always take it back to their homes and could feed a village for a week.  So it wasn't like they were leaving the carcas on the ground there to rot.

I still don't agree with it, but I could understand it back in the day.  Now, not so much.

I am on safari right now armed with an old skull 35mm  digital camera with a 300 mm lens.  As for the poachers from what our guide has told us we should leave them to the locals.

Was at Kariaga earlier this week.  The cut the Horns  off the rhinos so the poachers won’t go after them and kill them.

I’ll post some pics later, but being 10 feet and going eye to eye with a male lion.... fucking awesome.  Guide recommended not a smart thing to do with the females...  the do get a little protective of their ground let alone their cubs.

It's quite a team:

Stephen Miller on odd days and all matters dealing with colored humans

Jared on even days and all matters dealing with Arab and Jewish money

Mike Pence, special assignment on all matters dealing with the gays and the Irish

Mike Pompeo, special assignment on all matters dealing with tin pot dictators who can be praised and democratic leaders who can be insulted

The Happiness Twins, special assignment on all matters where shocking stupidity is required to make the elk stand still

Ivanka when something needs that extra touch of inappropriate behavior to really sparkle

The cabinet, who are assigned to find one rational Obama regulation to overturn and for extra credit find one reasonable and diligent staff member each month to throw under a bus.

South Africa has an unemployment rate between 30-40%, depending on whose statistics you believe. Per Capita GDP is under $15000, the economy is growing much slower than the rate of inflation, and the World Bank estimated that in 2014 55% of the population lived in poverty.

According to the Times article, rhino horn can be worth $15,000/kilogram.

Killing rhinos for the horn is a terrible thing, but expecting desperately poor people to behave according to the standards we set for our prosperous selves seems unrealistic. I feel terrible for the Rhinos, they didn't ask to be born with horns that idiots think are magic, but I'm also not without sympathy for the would-be poacher , and especially for his family. This is just a shitty situation all the way around.

Sounds like you'd need to hire Walter E. Kurtz as your guide on your safari adventure!!  Taken from his safari diary:

"I remember when I was on a safari. Seems a thousand centuries ago. Some poachers went into an area to find some animals. They left the area after they'd found and killed some animals, and this old man came running after us and he was crying. He couldn't see. They went back there and we had come and shot off every other arm. There they were in a pile: a pile of poacher arms. And I remember I...I...I cried. I wept like some grandmother. I wanted to tear my teeth out. I didn't know what I wanted to do. And I want to remember it. I never want to forget it. I never want to forget. And then I realized, like I was shot — like I was shot with a diamond...a diamond bullet right through my forehead. And I thought: My God, the genius of that. The genius! The will to do that: perfect, genuine, complete, crystalline, pure. And then I realized WE were stronger than THEM, because we could stand it. we were not monsters. We are people, trained cadres —people who fought with their hearts, who had families, who have children, who are filled with love — but we had the strength — the strength! — to do that. If I had ten divisions of those people our troubles there would be over very quickly."

Yes, if you're short on good options to feed yourself and your family you might just pick a bad option.

Uh, yeah.

I have a sailing buddy who is an EK A380 Captain.  Mid 30s, single.  He tells me his goal is to work his way through the Emirates cabin crew one by one,  And occasionally two at a time apparently.  Last I checked, he was off to a good start.  And there are only something like 18K to go.

Holy mother of god some of the ones he's brought home.....  Playboy models.    Why do you think I enjoy flying EK First or BC?

Even the dogs are hotties...

That A380 is a hell of a plane...  we were in row 46 (front of the cabin for steerage)...  got up every half hour and did a lap all the way to the back and up again...  managed to get in 4000 steps during our ride from Dubai to LAX....
