Not sure you need to be identifying others as "idiots".

Missing out on some gains is not "losing". Participating in a rout is losing. That is basic, bro. Retiring early into fulltime cruising a 50 foot sailboat paid for by (D) stockmarket gains is enough f

what is it about republican presidents and stock market crashes?

A firm rejection of reality and facts. An affliction which also affects many of the D’s. However the D’s have never marched in lock-step well, diluting the deleterious effects.

The political parties are corporations.  All that's important is their survival.  While we think of them as political arms of of how we elect representatives.  They see themselves as corporations trying to make money for their stockholders - their major contributors.

Republicans openly work toward lower taxes, with total disregard for what that might to to the deficit.  Once they get a tax reduction bill passed, their stockholders reap windfall profits.

Then the market crashes and the Dems are voted in to fix the problem.

The stockholders see a bear market and wait it out.

After a while, the voters get pissed the economy sucks and vote the Republicans back in.

And the cycle repeats.

But because these stages include massive donations to the political parties, the corporations thrive.  Politicians may come and go, but the corporations we know as the RNC and DNC carry on.

How low will it go, will Donnie start isolating and shooting  Coronavirus victims?

I believe he would do just that,  if it  became the only option that would save his political future.

Where's herr Miller when you really need a solution, is he still on his honeymoon?

I was just channel surfing cable news.  CNN and MSNBC were doing in-depth coverage of COVID-19.  FOX was warning viewers that teenage girls were being influenced by Instagram to take male hormones.

FOX fanatics will be the major spreaders of the virus.  But Instagram won't get them!

Simple Darwinism.

Those of us who have nothing to do with FOX dimwits shall be safe.

Trump rallies - not so much.

Six degrees of separation.  Recent reports are showing a geometric expansion of the virus.  No one is safe.  About all we have is good hygiene to protect us.  Or maybe hop in the boat and sail until they find a vaccine.

The economic impact is also racing around the world.  Airlines and airports are telling workers they can take unpaid leave if they want.  If not enough do, layoffs will follow.  As the panic spreads this will permeate every business.  Worker bees inject a large percent of their income into the economy and most don't have a nest egg to fall back on.  Unless the panic is brought under control, we're in for a world of hurt.

Yes, and as we all know, the DJIA is the best economic indicator!  SMH. That the problem with this entire topic.  Trump uses stocks as a gauge for his success, until of course something happens that causes it to drop.  Then it's not his fault.  But the bounce?  Oh yeah, go Trump!

Those damn Californiacrats.

I don’t suppose it has anything to do with Donnie’s head in the sand denials of an obvious issue and his suggestion that many people could and should go to work with a Coronavirus.

It’ll be great for the markets everyone is saying it.

The market triggered a ‘circuit breaker’ that kept stocks from falling through the floor. Here’s what you need to know

In the days weeks months your going to see massive bail outs of big corparations , so the CEO can keep there huge salaries , and who going to pay for that, hint look in the mirror.

The lobbyist now will get there reward for dumbing all that money in the GOP , Rich take care of the rich and steal from the little guy, so now do you "stand your ground " against the Banks/Bankers?

How many of you know the REAL reason he did that stunt with the tide?

My view was  always that it was to show the ass kissers at court that there were things that kings (or presidents) could not control.

There are those that feel that Nero fiddling was similar.  He could not control the fire anymore than Canute could control the tides.

Yes and no. King Canute wanted to show the limits of human control and his authority to his court.
Nero was just an incompetent degenerate fuckwit who very much could have improved many things including fire safety and did not.

The next break is at 13% for 15 minutes.  Then 20% at which point it stops for the day.  I think? That’s safe for today.

I view it as something someone made up to make Trump look bad.  How do you see it?

I view his statement as a way to make people think about it and force them to explain it.

What was Nero or Trump supposed to do?

We've had the CDC (1946) and the Center for Infectious Diseases (1983) looking out for these sorts of events for decades.  The National Center for Emerging and Zoonotic Infectious Diseases was established in 2010 in response to previous outbreaks of new viruses particularly those coming from animals.

Why do you think they will fail now given their track record of success with

  • Bird Flu
  • Swine Flu
  • Zika Virus
  • MRSA
  • MERS
  • SARS
  • HIV/AIDS
  • etc.

Every one of those was presented as the end of the world as we know it.

We are the worlds resource in this regard.

None of this happened on Trump's watch but the US has an excellent resource in those already in existence and they have successfully done their job in the past.  There is nothing for Trump to do that would be effective.

I don't have anything to do with twitter and the only time I see his are when someone quotes them here.

Ignore Trump (Hah, like that would happen) and pray tell what could Nero have done once Rome began to burn?  or Charles II when London burned,  or when Notre Dam burned Paris, or the Mayor of Chicago in 1871?

And, the difference between those outbreaks and the current one?  Well, one major fucking difference is we USED TO have a team in place to handle them.

President Trump disbanded that team in 2018.  Recently, he asked "Who would have thought?", regarding a pandemic.  Well, the fucking team who were in place for just such a scenario "would have thought".

Actually, quite a few people would have thought, and did — including the officials in his own White House who were in charge of preparing for just such a pandemic only to have their office shut down in a reorganization in 2018. “The threat of pandemic flu is the No. 1 health security concern,” one of the officials said the day before that happened two years ago. “Are we ready to respond? I fear the answer is no.”

The talking points are out, its just another pandemic ho hum.

Forgetting that in all the previous cases there was a team in place dedicated to preventing it getting out of hand, now not such much,  in fact there is not even a plan.

When are you gonna wake up and realize the man is a fuckin moron, a shyster and a conman.

People that know they have been conned seldom speak up because its embarrassing instead they will insist the idea was great but the timing and execution was just a little off, whats your excuse?

Everyone knows the Republicans are the smart ones with the money.

Got a budding pandemic?

Cut funding to the CDC.

Massively increase the deficit during good times?

No flexibility to respond when things go sour.

Who is being willfully ignorant?

In May 2018, the top White House official in charge of the U.S. response to pandemics left the administration. Rear Admiral Timothy Ziemer was the senior director of global health and biodefense on the National Security Council and oversaw global health security issues, a specialty that had been bolstered under President Barack Obama.

After Ziemer’s departure, the global health team was reorganized as part of an effort by then-National Security Adviser John Bolton. Meanwhile, Tom Bossert, a homeland security adviser who recommended strong defenses against disease and biological warfare, was reportedly pushed out by Bolton in 2018. Neither White House official or their teams, which were responsible for coordinating the U.S. response to pandemic outbreaks across agencies, have been replaced during the past two years.

In November 2019, a bipartisan group of lawmakers and experts formally recommended that health security leadership on the NSC should be restored. And on Feb. 18, 2020, a group of 27 senators sent a letter to current National Security Adviser Robert O’Brien to ask him to appoint a new global health security expert to the NSC.

"The fact that they explicitly dismantled the office in the White House that was tasked with preparing for exactly this kind of a risk is hugely concerning," Jeremy Konyndyk, who ran foreign disaster assistance in the Obama administration, told the Guardian. "Both the structure and all the institutional memory is gone now."

Linky.

and

Legum outlined a series of cost-cutting decisions made by the Trump administration in preceding years that had gutted the nation’s infectious disease defense infrastructure. The “pandemic response team” firing claim referred to news accounts from Spring 2018 reporting that White House officials tasked with directing a national response to a pandemic had been ousted.

Rear Adm. Timothy Ziemer abruptly departed from his post leading the global health security team on the National Security Council in May 2018 amid a reorganization of the council by then-National Security Advisor John Bolton, and Ziemer’s team was disbanded. Tom Bossert, whom the Washington Post reported “had called for a comprehensive biodefense strategy against pandemics and biological attacks,” had been fired one month prior.

It’s thus true that the Trump administration axed the executive branch team responsible for coordinating a response to a pandemic and did not replace it, eliminating Ziemer’s position and reassigning others, although Bolton was the executive at the top of the National Security Council chain of command at the time.
