Did Williams do Pink Panther? Wasn't that all Friz Freleng?

Freleng was my favorite animator, he had an economy of color and line that nobody ever really was able to rip off. Although there was kind of bad children's show that tried to rip off Freleng, friggen Caillou, that piece of shit of animation. They tried to rip off Pink Panther with their dumb-arsed digital gouache, but there was no way it could have been anything more than a broken tribute to the master. Freleng made each frame a story, it didn't even need the animation for a lot of the story. Freleng's shit was so fucking good that Pink Panther didn't even FUCKING NEED VOICES!!! The Pink Panther was what would have happened if Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keaton took acid and got into animation with an Atari computer.

The Pink Panther was so fucking good that it killed animation in a sense. Guys like Hanna and Barbara saw what Freleng did and they decided to just focus on the story and let the component cel animation do as much of the work as possible. Walter Lantz;s studio tried for a long time, and made some amazing graphic work, like Woody Woodpecker and Chilly Willy, but they didn't have the luxury of making art the way Freleng did. And they sure AS FUCK DIDN'T HAVE HENRY FUCKING MANCINI doing live soundtrack! Pink Panther killed animation (except for maybe Yellow Submarine) because they set such an impossibly high bar in economy of storytelling, in music, in backgrounds and the moving cels, plus that beautifully shot color (I assume they used Pathe) that no mere cartoon could even again touch it.

And then when there was enough money again to start making some epic animations in the 1990s, the era of hand-drawn, hand-inked, cel animation was mostly done for good, and the computer came in like a glass bitch the murdered the hand-inked line.

Williams made some excellent animation and it was good to see on the bigger screens,, but like everyone else in the business, they could only look at Friz Freleng's work and stand under its enormous shadow. Nobody did what Fritz did, nobody ever will again.

Fritz Freleng? Is that where Fritz the Cat came from?

The Panther also has the distinction of being one of the few cartoon characters to be multiple-owned. Those who have a piece of the Panther include DePatie-Freleng (the studio that first animated him), Blake Edwards (producer of the first feature), Mirisch Productions (production company of the first feature) and MGM (due to the fact that they acquired United Artists, who first distributed the picture). Any of these parties can do something with the Panther as long as all the other parties agree. (Because of this arrangement, DePatie and Freleng continue to earn money on the character.)

Poor frenchmen, they'll have to wash their eyes in bleach and wipe their hard drives now, all because you mentioned long eared thingy creatures in the same breath as sailing and a bateau actually named after one, merde!
