Matt Allen has partitioned AS to permanently BAN Mark Hipgrave due to him "speaking out" regarding the legal proceedings.

He was especially ticked off by Hugo Van Krestschmar's comments of support on the GoFundMe page.

It will be interested to see how this plays out especially considering money talks.

If this is true - AS cannot take any action based on information supplied by Matt Allen. It is NOT permitted in the RRS, as he is an interested party.

I really feel this story needs to be front page on every sailing website worldwide. The CYCA and Matt Allen need to be called out for this. In the meantime it only goes to prove that AS and the CYCA have no interest whatsoever in shorthanded sailing.

Maybe Mark should go to ACA, or The Project and get the story on primetime TV.

Was rereading my copy of Fatal Storm by Rob Mundle as I do every couple of years.Hugo Van Kretschmar gets numerous mentions as then Commodore of the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia.Reading between the lines it appears he handled a tragic event with a bit of finesse, compassion and style. So has he gone public and supporting the guy another former Commodore is taking action against? Good on him if he has.It appears not everyone is singing from the same Hymn Book.

On the 2H S2H topic.

I have heard that there is concern about the IMOCAs taking over the race.

I am very dubious about this being a genuine concern, but it has me wondering if the latest and greatest IMOCAs could be competitive in IRC, even in perfect conditions.

Looks like first IMOCA was 40th out of 278 overall IRC in 2019 Fastnet. That's not too bad...

Edit: Actually doesn't look like many IMOCA's in IRC, just racing as a class, so maybe not a representative result

Well the indigenous and community dance group can add you to their defamation action.

I'll pass on your contact details

Here's what they had to say about it

Hang your head in shame

Dance troupe ‘saddened and disappointed’ by the situation

The 101 Doll Squadron, a Sydney dance squad that specialises in dancehall and hip hop, was forced to delete its social media pages after footage from its performance at the event went viral.

In their statement, the 101 Doll Squadron said they were booked as a diverse group of dancers and were proud to participate.

“With Indigenous and multi-racial members from a community-based dance group, the dance itself was made up of choreographic and musical elements that included referencing blessings, the waves of the ocean and our geographical location of where the fresh water meets the sea, to name a few,” the dancers said.

“It was meant to bring an informal sense of celebration; a gift from one of our community groups to open a modern ship, with a modern dance form.”

The group said the ABC edit was a “short piece taken out of context in what was a very long day performed before the official ceremony and before the arrival of dignitaries and not part of it”.

“It was in no way meant to be disrespectful and we are hurt and disappointed it has been misconstrued to appear that way,” the group said.

“We perform regularly at festivals, cultural, and community events including The Woolloomoolivin’ Festival and NAIDOC locally. We’re very popular with all age audiences attending and have never been the target of abuse or complaints.

“This performance was one small part of a longer term partnering with the Navy and our community for pathway opportunities and ongoing programs, including a recent community BBQ and basketball tournament between Supply crew and local youth.”

The group said the captain and the crew of the ship had also been in contact saying the troupe had been “unfairly targeted”.

The group said they felt very “saddened and disappointed” by the situation and asked for privacy.

“We have been made fearful by all this media attention harassment and ongoing abuse,” the troupe ended, signing the letter, “sincerely The 101 Doll Squadron”.

The group, which describes itself as a “squadron of dancehall women facilitating a movement to unite and collaborate unique projects inna (sic) dancehall”, was booked to perform for a number of songs at the commissioning of HMAS Supply on Saturday.

The commissioning of the new vessel, held at Garden Island in Sydney, was filmed by the ABC, with high-profile people such as the Australian Defence Force chief Angus Campbell and Governor-General David Hurley attending.

Despite the dignitaries in attendance, the ADF insisted Mr Hurley or Mr Campbell were not in the audience when the dance troupe performed.

“The dance was performed prior to the commencement of the commissioning formalities and prior to the arrival of His Excellency the Governor General, Chief of Navy and Commander Australian Fleet,” a Defence spokesperson told news.com.au.

The ADF has been in defence mode since the footage went viral on social media, insisting it booked the group to support local businesses and to reflect the Woolloomooloo community, the inner city suburb where the Navy’s Fleet Base East is based.

“Ahead of her commissioning, .... HMAS Supply engaged with the local community of Woolloomooloo — one of her home ports – to build positive relationships,” a Defence spokesperson said.

“HMAS Supply and the Royal Australian Navy are committed to working with Australians from all backgrounds in actively supporting local charities and community groups.”

Before the group deleted its social media, its page was full of the dancers performing at community events, multicultural festivals and supporting women of colour.

I’ve also met Mark and found him to be really nice guy.

What is it with RQYS? Why is it always the centre for club members (Mark is now the 6th or 7th that I know of) to be harrassed and bullied out of the sport? When none of the cases are connected?

Fuck me. Being a yacht owner in SE Qld and a member of AS is just so rewarding.

You're conflating the yacht racing scene with yacht owning again. I suspect because for you, the 2 are the same as your reaction to the shit you got was to sell your boat and quit instead of just go sailing.

It's a bit wearing, frankly, because there are a huge number of yacht owners who have nothing to do with these clowns OR Australian Sailing, spend a lot of their time on the water and get on with life.

It's only a problem for you racers and in your case, ex-racers.

Not that I think you don't have a case & legitimate grounds for your grievances, I do. Just, basically it's only a small subset of a much larger group of sailboat owners. I wish you could actually separate the groups in your mind.

Yep, I'll take that, thx for the correction. In my admittedly old fashioned POV, even if I was only cruising I would still become a member of the sport national body because I really do believe in giving back to the sport and supporting it. But if I wasn't racing, nor dare I say if Mark or any of the others believed in supporting racing, none of this would be known. But I can not enjoy a sport without contributing to the betterment, cruising or no.

So. the correct vernacular should be:

Fuck me. Being a yacht owner in SE Qld that believes and wants to give back to the sport and be a member of AS is just so rewarding.

At everyone's favorite yacht club the bullshit extends to those that don't race. Via their over 50 'Member policies' they can tell you who you are allowed to have (or not have) on your boat and your friends have to pay if they want to go through the gates to get to your boat.

The exodus of owners moving their boats out of the clubs marina now resembles the retreat of Dunkirk.

They even claim their constitution means they don't have to comply with the RRS. I know that someone from AS pointed this out to them but the club have refused to remove the offending Bylaw.

I'm not a member of any club, working on the Groucho Marx principle basically. There's a couple I'd consider joining but one of them requires an existing member *and* another member to act as sponsor & seconder. This is the 21st Century, if those are the rules, well, whatever. As we don't hang around clubs with other people we don't get to suck up to existing members, most of the people we meet are either in bays somewhere or on the hard when working on their boats. You don't get to meet people who are club members, more likely cruising types and professionals. Last time I had a big work barge on one side and a cray boat on the other. Not real good candidates for yacht club membership.

AS isn't interested in cruising sailboats at all. They want to swan about at events, suck up to more important people and ensure that the boat owners have no say in upsetting their little empire. The entire system is designed to stop people like you from having any influence.

Given that there's no way in hell they'd ever do anything for cruising boats & owners.

So there's no reason why I would ever consider giving them a single dollar.

Yep - sounds like a club to avoid, for sure.

Thank fuck Tasmania is 50 years behind the times. There's probably as many if not more boats on moorings as in marinas so we have some say, as we're paying MAST every year. It's not just the clubs.

Incidentally, best wishes for the racing scene. Everyone needs a hobby or 2 and there's no reason not to pick an expensive one, especially if it pisses off a lot of virtue-signallers at the same time. Motor racing certainly ticks *that* box...

What's happened now and why should those of us who don't belong to clubs with byzantine rules actually give a fuck?

As long as MAST doesn't fuck too much with the regs around moorings here in Tasmania I can't see how this yacht club/AS shit-show will make any difference to me, except maybe the entertainment value of reading along here.

I don't have any involvement with the traveling clown show, that's true. They don't get a single dollar from me directly (I can't control where Govts direct tax money, alas).

That doesn't mean I can't gain considerable entertainment from the live performances, however. And toss the odd rotten tomato from the cheap seats.

Given that I didn’t get the email sent to all members last Thursday with the board’s position on two handed racing, clearly I’m on the out? Then again... what would be new?

Hi All
I want to give you an update on the legal action that Matt Allen has brought against me, but first I want to thank you for your great support. I’ve been feeling pretty down over all this and your support, especially from people I don’t even know, has been very encouraging.
I’m pleased to report that the defamation issues between Matt and I are almost finalised, and after a fair bit of legal to-and-fro, have agreed to publish the following on this webpage:
Apology to Matthew Allen AM
On or about 6 November 2020, I created a video with the title "Double Handers and the S2H", which was posted on the website www.captiongenerator.com. I also circulated a link to the video by email to a number of acquaintances with an interest in sailing, and referred to the video, and repeated some of its themes, in the Go Fund Me page I set up to raise funds for my defence of defamation proceedings brought by Mr Allen in respect of the video. On the Go Fund Me page I was also critical of Mr Allen's conduct of the legal dispute which arose as a result of the publication of the video.
The video ridiculed Mr Allen and it and my Go Fund Me comments conveyed a number of seriously defamatory imputations about him. I accept that those imputations are completely false, and acknowledge that I should not have created the video and circulated it to others, nor referred to Mr Allen in the terms I did on the Go Fund Me page.
I sincerely apologise to Mr Allen for my actions, and unreservedly withdraw any defamatory imputations conveyed about him as a result.
I note that the defamation proceedings have now been resolved and that Mr Allen did not require me to pay any damages as part of the settlement agreement.
While the defamation proceedings are now resolved on May 7th Matt’s lawyers advised that he was continuing a separate but related complaint through Australian Sailing to have me banned from competitive sailing for the rest of my life.
I’ll keep this page up for a while longer so I can let you know how this Australian Sailing Complaint goes.
Please pass this on to anyone who you think might be interested.

I'm glad I donated to MHs cause anonymously!  No wonder so many have.  What a cunt MA is making of himself.

How does AS feel about a member bullying another member?

It is terrible that the 4 directors of the CYCA got bullied.

Lucky there is the AS Membership Protection Policy to rely on.

It's all good and AS has it covered.

An AS representative, G will talk to MA and after  their secret hand shake, A plan will be set for a enquiry /  plan / out come of a  report will be put in action.

AS will use their best man for the job G ( G would make a great used car salesman ) and he will then talk to MH and make him think all is good and he's on his side and all will end well for MH and not to worry. G's his mate and will look after him.

Then G will hand in his report to AS that was written already with MA's blessing.

MH will then face a AS hearing and MH will have a ban of some sort. MH will then have very little options to clear his name and overturn his ban and it will cost him heaps of $$$$$ for very little  return.

G will then make shore MA is on the next Australian Honours list for his fair play and support of sailing and the double handed fleets. After all AS needs to suck up to the rich and shameless.

So it's not one member bulling another member. it's about AS Bulling members as well for their own benefit, funding and ego's.  After all, I've seen G bully both children, adults and myself to keep the rich and shameless happy and their Ego's inflated.

Money doesn't buy good sportsmanship and fairness and this case just proves it.

No, you don't have to work for AS to know what the "hipgrave Papers" will read and say.

I just know some of AS are scumbags and need to go for our sport to grow again. Things need to change.

They are all pretty boys with glass jaws and a lawyer on speed dial so you know that’s not going to happen.

They will  have to send in their henchmen to keep their ego’s inflated. Calling  AS and G

Having just that read the article in the Australian I can say that while Hipgrave comes out as the underdog the paper also paints MA as an entitled, thin-skinned, self-centred knob.
