This is the problem. I'm done being critical of the politicians. They simply reflect our own actions back to us. If we actually felt differently we'd vote differently. The truth is if the dumb ass is on your team.......they are judged better than the other teams dumb ass.

It's our fault, we get what we deserve by prioritizing team over everything.

When you step out of the party bullshit, the differences between the two partys starts looking real minor.  They're both just lining up to take turns fucking you.

If you lose everything you won't be the only one and I was there 20 years ago - lost everything and still owed money, got sued, she left and blah blah blah. It was a hard road back but worth the effort.

One of the best things for me was finding out how little I needed to be happy - boat? Nope but plenty of guys wanted me to crew. i realized that sometimes the stuff you own really owns you.

Just in two stores. At least 100 people in each. 3 of us masked in one, 4 in the other.

Still just ~28 cases in this county. I guess it's a safe-ish gamble but I don't think folks grok that you can carry it even if you're not sick. Or, they don't care. My guess is that they're just ignorant. This is deep red country. Still, with all the service bases near here, 28 is just lucky. So far.

I'm not old, but I'm too old to start over.  I don't have round two in me.  That starting a cabinet shop shit is for somebody in their 20's.  Somebody stupid, full of hope, no responsibilities, and capable of working 100+ hours a week for months at a time.  I was that, but that has passed.

Nobody wearing masks outside on public trails. Saw photo of people in DC gathered on Mall to watch flyover in honor of healthcare workers. No masks. Way to honor their sacrifices, huh?

Death and case numbers rising.

Don't sell yourself short and don't work 100 hour weeks - it's not sustainable nor productive. Hire somebody and do 50-60. I started my most successful company when I was 40 and 2 decades later did it again. When Harvey hit our area I had to decide if in my late 60s I could do a good job 7 days a week and during the peak I averaged over 80 hours a week. You will be surprised at what you can accomplish when it's one step at a time.  I suck at talking anyone off the ledge and just want to offer some encouragement - I can't tell you how many people I know who have had their greatest successes late in life - after 50 or 60.

Deaths in the United States from the novel coronavirus topped more than 62,000 Thursday, making it deadlier than any flu season since 1967, according to data compiled by Reuters.

The only deadlier flu seasons were in 1967 when about 100,000 Americans died, 1957 when 116,000 died and the Spanish flu of 1918 when 675,000 died, according to the CDC.

so to all the people who say the flu is worse, including my wife,  F.O.

From the movie "The Wedding Crashers" comes the book "Don't Jump".

In anything manufacturing, when you're short on equipment, you make up for it in hours.  I was really well setup to cut out cabinet parts from sheet stock not that long ago.  It took me on average about 45 minutes to pull a sheet from the rack and have parts ready to assemble.  If I was REALLY on top of my shit, 35 minutes, but that was unusual and I had to be clear and sharp to pull that off.  Now I watch a $120,000 robot do that same job in 6-7 minutes, with another 4-5 clearing parts and pull the next sheet on.  When I first started out, I bet I was over an hour doing that same job.

It's become a business that is very difficult to break into because of the cost of entry.  I started with a $10k investment and all of my hand tools I had before I went on my own,  in about 1200 sq/ft space.  I can't imagine pulling that off nowadays.  Heck, my area where cabinets sit waiting to go out the door is a fair amount bigger than my first shop.  Projects move too fast, the limitations were so huge in the beginning.

I'm trying to set myself up so I can be done around 55, then live off of passive income.  I don't have any rental property yet, but as soon as I close the note on this building, I'm just going to go borrow a shit load more so I can put up another building to rent out.  Then probably do that again.

In MInnesota, 80% of deaths from Covid-19 have been residents of long term care or assisted living facilities.  In a state of 5.7 million residents, we have had 83 deaths outside those facilities.  Those facilities should have been the easiest to isolate and to do so without shutting down the rest of the world. What's happening in your part of the world?

Roughly 50% or deaths in Maryland are from long term care or assisted living/retirement communities. Vector appears to be staff that works in multiple facilities bringing it in.  Doing 100% testing of nursing home residents and staff now, regardless of symptoms.

Don't know if this has already been discussed, Penn Wharton model showing jobs, GDP, COVID19 tradeoffs under scenarios.

Seems to me the full reopen,  no distancing cases and deaths would not be just the old, who likely would sequester if covid was obviously rampant.

With respect Weightless,  Chris is far from anecdotal in this piece,  all factual from peer reviewed virologist studies.

there is a clear 'insertion' into the cov19 RNA sequence which is extremely unnatural.  Far from the family tree of any other corona virus, of which there are many.

just start around 3:00 in and follow.

the article you posted was far more anecdotal and obtuse to the actual question of why exactly Cov19 is so far off the family of other corona viruses.  Which is the tell to validating that it was just a common 'natural' mutation, thus not man made.

“I’m here with a really important message about the coronavirus,” Chris Martenson, one of the founders of the financial website Peak Prosperity, says at the beginning of a video entitled “Coronavirus Is Worse Than You’ve Been Told: Scientist Explains.”

“Unfortunately if you’ve been reading the news you’ve either been under-informed or misinformed about what this virus really is. It’s a very serious thing,” he continues. “To get more updates, please come by [my website]. We have a place for subscribers who want to go a little deeper and get some good advice about what they can do.”

While the website offers some articles on the coronavirus, it also highlights something called “Our Recommended Pandemic Preparations”—only available in a section for paid subscribers.

“He’s not a practicing physician, he’s just a guy with a science background who’s taken an interest in this virus,” said Dr. Angela Hewlett, an infectious disease specialist at the University of Nebraska Medical Center and member of the Infectious Diseases Society of America, who clarified that she didn’t see anything in Martenson’s videos that gave her cause for concern.

" Until he started making coronavirus videos a few days ago, Martenson’s videos nearly exclusively focused on finance. His second video on the outbreak—“Coronavirus Is Worse Than You’ve Been Told: Scientist Explains”

I'm not discounting the fact that the virus mutates. The issue is the authors' conclusion that the mutations in this strain make it more infectious. There are multiple plausible explanations for why this mutation is prevalent in the regions where it's the dominant strain. I suspect the authors' conclusions won't survive peer review.

BTW, the twitter feed I cited is from Trevor Bedford of the Seattle Flu Study and he's been consistently measured, credible, and consistent since he started working on COVID in January. His feed mostly serves as a lay digest of his work here:

The politics of disclosure are important to this. Straight people simply aren’t used to constantly disclosing very private health information to new friends, and sometimes strangers. Of course, this can be avoided if you are celibate or in a long-term monogamous relationship, but honestly, who wants that? It’s not especially pleasant.
