Michigan made >50 person gatherings illegal but exempted religious services.  I was thinking it was a great way to ensure that all the devout thumpers get the sacrament of the covid.

Warren Buffett says that the stock market is the transference of money from the impatient to patient.  It will be interesting to see if he is right this time.  He may be.

Interesting day on our market today. Down over 7.5% at one stage but finished 4.4% up!!! That's an intraday turnaround of more than 12%. Haven't seen that since the depths of the GFC. Lots of closing

Sure, they intend to go play basketball, or go to church, or go hang out with their friends.  Their volunteerism is related to the fact that they ignore the CDC and WHO and believe the kind of bullshit you, dog, and wolfsy spread.

Several ways you could look at this... God is punishing them, must be that they painted their church the wrong color or something...

Or they are bearing the burden of the choice(s) that they made.

As to the latter, perhaps we are so far gone that I need to point out that this was once a central part of conservative beliefs.

Now that more tests are planned we will see a billion dollars or so of testing and the guesstimated mortality rates should drop from current figures.

Bad economy = lower interest rates , Good economy =higher interest rates

He does not care about the economy except as a re-election talking point.  And that's only to postpone future indictments.

His primary concern is the interest rates on his re-financing for his nearly bankrupt golf courses.

Ummm... a bit early to ask that don't you think?

Was talking to my "people" the other day. She said the big institutional managers - mutual funds and so forth -  are starting to buy quality stuff because it's at fire sale prices.

An example - Bank of Montreal - the bluest of blue chip dividend stock is currently around $60. Last month it was over $100. So what if it goes to $55 later this month?

When this is over that stock will be back over $100.

That's what is called a buying opportunity.

Taking advice from Friends in the Brokerage business is the meaning of an oxymoron !

I had a friend also in the BB, I told about a company I work was going to take off, he said not to buy, Later that year he and 5 other "friends were arrested for insider trading all lost their jobs, couple went to jail and one commited suicide. learned my lesson no talking about the market with friends in the BB.If you talk to a emeny about the market, it will end where it started.

I thought the comment was about stock prices. On those I am long term bullish. I think the market is “oversold”. But I have no advice.

As for boats: I would think sellers will be more motivated in a few months when the recession is taking a real toll in employment.

Boat brokerages must be a quiet place to snooze right now.

Ah ok.  I would disagree about the stock market because of my experience in '07 and '08 and the long way we have to go before we hit that bottom.  Most analyses I've seen believe that there is no bottom until something optimistic comes from time or the vaccine or treatment world.  First to admit however that I am no analyst and my market opinion is worth what you paid for it.

I have a financial genius brother in law who has made over many many millions in the past 15 years building and selling fincos.  He currently owns the second or third biggest short term lender in the country as well as one of the very few institutional banks in existence (I think they only lend to other banks but it's all a bit above my pay grade).  I have a call scheduled with him tomorrow AM and will share here any relevant gold I get from him.

China, if it is to be believed, got this thing under control in about 6 weeks, but they could do things we can't do, like build a hospital in 10 days.  Here is the chart:

image.png.1449c09dd4b39cf22f62134bf9d3284b.png

We need to flatten the curve, so to speak, to avoid overwhelming our health care systems and try to save as many people as possible - in short, not run out of ventilators.

The US and Canada are on about Feb 3rd in this graph.  We have at least another two months I think before our graphs start to flatten out.  It will come roaring back if there is good news.  Calling the bottom is a mug's game but we haven't reached it yet.

Sadly, our efforts so far in the US and Canada will not stop us from being on the same trajectory as Italy.  They have been in lockdown for quite some time now and there is only  now some sign of the curve beginning to flatten there.  Italy's graph is below:

image.png.08d140b7157b094dcbe5993478659c80.png

I agree! Not for nothing

If we lived in a capitalist  country, it would be simple , if companies fail , so be it. " For the Times are a changin". Do we really need to bailout/subside the airlines? I say NO, the ones that are mismanaged will fail and the good ones will survive , I feel most people fly for stupid reasons, It''s johnny 1 st birthday, so & so getting married, and the best is a rich woman flew in people around the world, for her 40Th b-day ny/ct , which became ground zero for COvid -19, so basicly the airlines spread the disease from china to around the world , and now we want to bail them out, wtf, Didn't a great girl Greta G. say in 2019 people should stop flying, people (potus) made fun of her , yet she was right!  https://www.chicagotribune.com/coronavirus/ct-nw-nyt-coronavirus-connecticut-super-spreader-20200323-akznc44v4zhhzpajkmb7w6kftq-story.html,                          Cost of flying is also way too cheap , because of all the subsides, I flew last year to NY and it cost ( out of pocket ) $6.00, using my points , the more you fly the more points you get! There's so many airlines , routes, planes , airports that the industry will do anything to keep the planes full and flying, Bigger planes more people more $$$$$.

Cruise ships , let them all sink as there  petri dishes of human waste!

As things change , so do we, or else, I think of the phone industry, we started out with hand cranks , then party lines, then rotorary, land lines then push button , then cordless to wireless to flip phones to smart phones, These companies had to change or die,

so lets bring back capitalism to america !

Nothing gives me a rush of pleasure quite like trading stocks on death and misery. So, yes, I've been busy with the great opportunities provided by Trump. Hope you were able to buy near the recent bottom so you could make a killing while 60,000 died in the US alone. I sure did. Way bigger bump than killing caged children. Got any tips on when the double whammy will hit: negative growth with a second wave of death? Sure would be nice to be ready for that opportunity. I mean, if I live that long. MAGA!

The stock market and the economy are two different things. Stocks could be doing great while the economy is totally in the shitter. In fact that is the case over the last several weeks. The economy shrank 5% last quarter, and will likely shrink 25-30% this quarter. That is the worst economic performance in a century. That stocks are down only 20% at the moment, is more indicative of printing money and irrational expectations of a rapid recovery.

When the stock market and economy tank due to the virus, it is all Trump's fault according to the PA dipshits.  When the stock market and/or economy do well, it is not Trump's fault.

Truthfully, Trump has a minor role in the economy, and the only thing I would change is to eliminate that role of the President.

you wish.

Economies are tanking everywhere.

Now some erstwhile lacklustre leaders, (like our own) will get away with it next election because They have done the right thing and put people above money.

Trump OTOH, will only have over a hundred thousand dead and a depression possibly worse that the great depression and no compassion or leadership credit

Blind Freddie's dog will beat the bejesus out of him.

And the delicious irony will be, that the economy really is not his fault :D

And his whining won't help.

Do you think I support Trump?  He is an authoritarian statist.  The point is that you have to put up someone against him that can actually beat him.  DNC is going to take Biden out.  Just watch.

The DNC likes Biden.

The Republicans can't figure out if shooting their foot or their head is a better strategy.

What you say would only be true if Trump was an advocate of a political system.
