Sail4beer 2,104 #14 Posted June 29, 2020 There was a design by a lady designer in a recent WoodenBoat issue( yeah, I’m one of those people) which had that same configuration. I thought it was odd looking and unnecessary.

The Q 447 #18 Posted July 1, 2020 IIrc, In our local rating rules cat versions of that are banned, sort of half way between a cat and monohull that was tried pre WW1, an attempt to increase stability by moving bouyancy outwards..

Shu 121 #27 Posted July 2, 2020 I'm trying to find the reasoning, however faulty, behind this thing. An attempt to add stability aft may be a "reason". I think at most speeds this configuration would add wetted area. I mean the perimeter to area ratio for three triangles is going to be higher than for a single half-ellipse. And just where you want a full shape to maximize the pressure recovery, huge chunks of the hull have been cut out. I suspect it may be faster in reverse, or being dropped from a crane.
