Now Coming To A City Near You, The Federal Takeover Of American Cities

Recommended Posts

Here it comes. I posted this on the Portland thread, but realized this is bigger by yards. Martial law?

“Meadows says the Trump administration is readying a new executive order to expand the federal takeover of cities”

Meadows says the Trump administration is readying a new executive order to expand the federal takeover of cities based on alleged lawlessness: "Attorney General Barr is weighing in on that with Secretary Wolf, and you'll see something rolled out on that this week." https://twitter.com/TrumpWarRoom/status/1284906924740423681

<snip> But Meadows suggested the Trump administration wants to broaden its legal justification to allow federal agencies to expand their presence in other locations. Notably he cited Chicago, where the issue drawing national attention is gun violence, not political unrest. Trump has previously threatened to “send in the Feds” if Chicago “doesn’t fix the horrible ‘carnage’ going on.”

“The statues are one thing, but it’s really about keeping out communities safe, and the president is committed to do that,” Meadows said.

These plans are sure to draw condemnation from Democrats and other Trump critics already denouncing the administration’s actions in Portland. On Sunday, the chairs of three House committees—Judiciary, Oversight and Homeland Security—asked inspectors general in the Justice and Homeland Security departments to investigate the “use of federal law enforcement agencies by the Attorney General and the Acting Secretary of Homeland Security to suppress First Amendment protected activities in Washington, DC, Portland, and other communities across the United States.”

Nah.   The gun nutter crowd would be in full panic mode.   They would have quit their jobs and hunkered down in their bunkers if Obama did it.   As long as a white man is declaring martial law on minority sections of cities they will celebrate the boot on the neck.

I’m screwed.  Not being afraid and/or mentally ill I’ve never felt The need for gunz.  But now with a creepy authoritarian Nazi gov maybe I’ve made a terrible decision!  What can I do??  Woe is me!

Wait I know!  I’ll vote for Biden and roll with Antifa.  They aren’t cowards and they don’t need gunz either.

Problem solved!

I don't see what the big deal is.

All they need to do is wear cowboy hats and yack about how Jesus wants them to have free land to use, and they can occupy and damage all the Federal property they want to

Maybe someone can explain to me why it is OK for the US Reich to come armed to demonstrations, but not the left ?

Maybe some smart legal mind can explain that to us.

Actually, I hope the left does not do that - they have the moral high ground, and things could really go south if they became as violent as the Reich.

The college kids who helped register black voters got it right, as did Gandhi.   Violence just brings the boogaloo.   The 2A types have been prepping for it for years.    They have friends in the police, guard, etc.   If non violence worked in the heart of ‘enemy’ territory like 1960s Birmingham it will prevail easily in modern cities.   The only moral ground the racists have is black looters and covid spreaders.    I constantly hear how BLM has caused the covid flair ups, from people still hung over from their weekend party.

Which nut cases are you referring to?  I am not aware of any armed militia members out there helping the DHS arrest protesters in PDX.  In fact the majority of the militia you constantly refer to pretty much HATE HATE HATE most federal LEO and trust them about as far as they can throw them.  Think Ruby Ridge, Waco, Bundy, etc.

That actually brings up an interesting question about Shitcago and others high violence areas like Baltimore, St Louis and such.....  Let's say trump does send in Federal troops into those enclaves of high violence and the murder and death rate goes down as a result.  Is it a bad thing if the cities themselves cannot quell the violence?

The decision to handle the problem belongs to the cities.  If the state is dissatisfied with how that is being handled, they have the option of bringing in their National Guard. The federal government has no right under the Constitution to compel the states to bow to their authority.

The ends never justify the means.  If they stop, frisk and execute like Judge Dredd it will be effective and wrong.   If Seabees are sent in to repair infrastructure, mess halls erected to provide balanced nutrition, aid stations appear and training battalions provide skills, I’m all for it,

I can't believe you asked that.

States have their own police force.  If that isn't sufficient, they have the National Guard.  In fact, the city of Portland has repeatedly asked the Federal Government to LEAVE.  According to multiple sources in Portland the violence was tapering off.  Until the federals showed up.

What you are advocating for is what Hitler did.  What Mussolini did.  What Communist China still does.  It isn't a government for the people.  It's a government over the people.

There is a reason these 'cities' haven't quelled the violence in the method that you advocate.  The people doing the 'quelling' actually live there, and have to live with the consequences afterwards.  Trump has shown just how close to the edge of authorianism he can take this country.  It's disgusting, and I truly hope he and his handlers end up in prison.  But we've seen how well that works when they can simply commute sentences and issue pardons.

I am not "advocating" for it in the slightest.  In fact, I find it pretty abhorrent that the feds are there specifically when the Portland mayor has asked them to leave.  I was just curious to see if suddenly all of the Stites Rats folks would come out of the woodwork when it was a convenient issue for them after demanding the Federal gov't handle other issues that are also squarely in the state's lane - and they have not disappointed.

I have insurance.  If they feel the need to do it, I won't be happy about it, but I'm not going to invite the unmarked Gestapo to come help keep them away, injure them, or drag them off in unmarked cars.  If it ever came to the point where there was personal risk to me, I would either remove myself from the situation or defend myself with all required force.

Your definition of pussification is the abdication of rationality.  The placing of material items above that of human life.  I guess it's not surprising, considering the entire point of calling it 'pussification' is to somehow insinuate that people who pursue non-violent methods are somehow 'less'.

The only thing I have asked the federal government to do, is show leadership. Provide PPE, and ventilators, which previous administrations had agreed and set up to do. Because that leadership was not shown, Seized PPE was auctioned off to states that had already paid and order it privately, this problem was exacerbated by many degrees.

Meanwhile, back at the topic . .

Yeah, the Reich just loves the constitution, except when it is not convenient to their evil purposes.

Trump's "Illegal Use of Paramilitary Force" in Portland

MARJORIE COHN, marjorielegal@gmail.com
Cohn, professor emerita at Thomas Jefferson School of Law recently wrote "Trump’s Illegal Use of Military Against Anti-Racist Uprisings Portends Battles Ahead" and "Protesters Attacked by Police Are Suing to Vindicate Their Constitutional Rights."

She said today: "In a continuation of his cynical abuse of power in the run-up to the presidential election, Donald Trump’s secret paramilitary force is illegally terrorizing the people of Portland. One man who was holding a speaker was shot in the head with an impact munition that fractured his skull and shattered his face. Unidentified federal agents in unmarked vehicles are snatching peaceful protesters off the streets, transporting them to unknown locations, without informing them of why they’re being arrested, and later releasing them with no record of their arrest. These actions are reminiscent of dictatorships’ secret police who kidnap and 'disappear' opponents of the regime. They are calculated to deter people from exercising their First Amendment right to protest" against racism and white supremacy.

Cohn added: "The seizures and detentions without probable cause violate the Fourth Amendment. Trump targeted Portland, which has seen 53 straight nights of demonstrations since the public lynching of George Floyd by a Minneapolis police officer. Trump is reportedly planning to take his illegal tactics nationwide. Fortunately, lawsuits are being filed to stop these egregious constitutional violations."

Cohn is former president of the National Lawyers Guild. Her other recent pieces include "Trump Is Trying to Hide U.S. and Israeli War Crimes by Attacking the International Criminal Court." She is author of several books and editor of Drones and Targeted Killing: Legal, Moral and Geopolitical Issues and The United States and Torture: Interrogation, Incarceration, and Abuse.

Depends on POV I suppose. I don't mind munching on a tasty burger. So I guess that means my life takes precedence?  Maybe. To me. but just because carbon molecules were in a stalk of corn, then a cow, now me, and soon to be broken down by microbes doesn't really lead to a more value/less value conversation. It's just a top of the food pyramid discussion. To me, I'm more valuable, but when it's all over it's only the carbon that remains. It doesn't give a shit which chemical process it's part of.

Yep, that's what you do, get all the gun nuts and militia on your side, then do the takeover.

Nice work.

This is a massive unraveling of everything the country thought it was.  But now the stakes are so high that Corporations have to keep Trump in there somehow, even is Democracy itself has to go.  Big business hates voting, it's unreliable and inconvenient.

This is the abrupt end of an empire and a new one's beginning.

China knows that this is their time to "wait long enough by the river and you will see the bodies of your enemies float by."   They just didn't think it would be so soon.

There is no circumstance where "precious" is not an entirely subjective judgment regarding life whereas "value", while somewhat synonymous, is far more quantifiable, by it's very definition.   E.g. I wouldn't give two figs for what I know about yours.

As for all life being equally "precious", it is absolutely subjective.

For a Buddhist, it is assumed to be, for a Catholic priest, it is their objective, for Republican it is transactional, for a Nazi, by definition all lives are not equally precious.

Bless your heart.

What you wrote above implies that all life is equally precious.  It is not.  Just saying.....

Of course all life is equally precious. God didn't make the dogs less precious than the cats, or the crows.

 What are you implying?

Yep, that's what you do, get all the gun nuts and militia on your side, then do the takeover.

Nice work.

This is a massive unraveling of everything the country thought it was.  But now the stakes are so high that Corporations have to keep Trump in there somehow, even is Democracy itself has to go.  Big business hates voting, it's unreliable and inconvenient.

This is the abrupt end of an empire and a new one's beginning.

China knows that this is their time to "wait long enough by the river and you will see the bodies of your enemies float by."   They just didn't think it would be so soon.

Should Trump win re-election the America we  grew up in, and of legend and  lore is over.

You mean those family sitcoms (My Three Sons, Father Knows Best, Leave it to Beaver, etc, etc, etc) weren’t real?  Quelle surprise.

The Dumbfuckistans and their moronic brethren are on the verge of winning.

Not sure you understand, it's gone already.

All this has done is demonstrate what happens when the full armory of Capitalism is deployed.

Greed is good, fuck you I got mine.  There is no reason to believe that removing Trump will magically restore the land you used to know, the people who are telling Trump what to do will still be there.

I’m not quite there yet.  But even if Biden wins, the Dems control both houses of Congress and rebuild the courts; the interests who got us to this point will still be lurking.  The worst of the right will simply go back underground until another  Trump-like creature surfaces.

Hopefully when Trump loses, and the Senate is flipped, new laws can be installed, perhaps constitutional amendments, which will make what Trump is doing if not impossible, at least more difficult.

It was impossible before. Trump's gross abuse of the system has been enabled by the people who are supposed to be part of the system of checks and balances.

Without people determined to make the system work, NO system will work.

Biden and the Dems better hit the ground running on day one.  If history is a guide POTUS’ party traditionally  loses Seats in one or both houses in the mid-terms.  If it’s not done in the first two years it might not get done at all.

Be prepared for disappointment. I'm no historian, but has the government (any government) ever rescinded a power once obtained? Obama didn't seem to be in any hurry to end the many varied emergency powers from 9/11. Doubt Biden will do anything positive. He may not send the camo cosplay clowns to the cities. But the power and precedents will remain undiminished. Guaranteed.

Sol was right many years ago. Once power has been yielded to the executive, it will never return to the people.

All hail Sol!

It will take a generation or two to rebuild the courts after the deliberate damage done by Moscow Mitch and Putin's bitch.

Yes, at the district level - but at the Supremes level one little change and whack!
