The race conditions for the Prada Cup have been released, so time for a thread.

https://www.dropbox.com/s/ycc3hxnn0nu8nhq/Race Conditions.pdf?dl=0

Pertinent details:

  1. Round robin format
  2. Each challenger sails each other challenger 4 times (12 races)
  3. After the initial round, the highest ranked boat goes into the Prada Cup final
  4. The other two boats race in a semi–final series, first to 4 points goes into the Prada Cup final
  5. The winner of final is the first to 7 points and goes into the AC match vs ETNZ

There's no tie break rule, which means one will likely be required.

When are the "Racing Instructions" released?

The Race Conditions defer to the Protocol, which says:

17.2. The Sailing Instructions for the Match and the CSS shall be issued by the Regatta Director in consultation with COR/D by 1 November 2020 and not later than one month before the first race in each of the Preliminary Regattas.SIs to be released at a later date.

How on any given day will the Race Committee decide which course to race on?  Each of the courses delineated currently have their own unique conditions.

Probably covered in the (yet to be released) SIs, my guess is a decision of the PRO or "Regatta Director" based on prevailing conditions.

Will be interesting how they decide because each course is different and theoretically under certain conditions could favour one boat ahead of another.

Yawn.

Dick heads all of you, it’s not the LV but the Prada Cup and whoever unfortunately becomes the holder of that spray painted monstrosity will definitely leave Aotearoa empty handed and have to endure four more years in the post Covid empty sponsorship wilderness to have another tilt at the Poisoned Chalice.

See you all again in 2025 and have a happy day.

S&S seem like an outside chance to make it to the Prada Cup. Currently, 10 days of racing are scheduled for 3 teams to complete 12 races in the round robin stage from the 15th to 26th Jan 2021. It should be easy to complete the series at two races per day with a couple of missed days due to weather.

The addition of S&S would require 24 races, so more than 2 races per day will be required. Take out a couple of days for weather and the logistics of completing the round robin stage become challenging, particularly as races aren't set to start until after 1500 (first warning signal).

If that bizarre scenario were to somehow come to fruition then presumably they’d have to also rip up the recently-published Prada Cup format and schedule.
