I'm not sure the kiwi commentator is smart enough to know that it fucks Ken off. I think he is just commenting on the few things his feeble mind understands. "Ken, what made the teams decide

The TVNZ coverage had the graphic at bottom which cycled through speed+VMG / flight time / wind speed. That graphic is f@#$&+g horrible. The layout precludes comparing VMG between boats

What about on americascup.com

The fact that youtube won't be available in the US is pretty telling. It would make no sense to geo-block the US on youtube but not on the other digital platforms. Again, the fact that NBCSN is charging for live access to the American's Cup strongly suggests that the only place to watch the racing live in the US is through NBCSN's gold pass, otherwise they couldn't really charge for it.  But this is 2020, and maybe some strange shit will happen and the live racing will be available on Facebook or on the cup site even though it is not available on youtube.

How does one go about this?

Via a VPN. There are several providers when you google "VPN". Some for free, some with fee.
You can also try Servus.tv (livestream here: https://www.servustv.com/americascuplive/, and later here: https://www.servustv.com/mediathek/). Maybe, they don't do geoblocking.

In addition, these are the pirate sites I used for Bermuda, but they don't seem to have sailing anymore:

http://livetv.sx/dex/allupcoming/
https://cricfree.sc/

This is the Bermuda thread with quite a few VPN/Proxy addresses:

Exactly my reaction after I saw that they were not available in the US (despite the promises and that table). I winder whether the cup itself will be available in US

As it's 2AM race starts, I can't see any reason Sky would shell out for exclusive coverage. Probably glad to have any live sport after the last 9 months.

That's my take on it.

This is surprising to me. Certainly fans have been led to believe there would be free access for all.

I wonder if someone forgot to flick a switch for US. Will be interesting to see what Aussies get.

Yeah that almost always made me think the U.S. would get shafted. Vpn it is then. Would have been nice if they spelled out specifically which countries were excluded so it was clear.

VPN rookie here, first off thanks for the tips! I can view the streams now in the US. But when I try and click on the AC Youtube channel to see what other streams are available like the port entry option posted above, I get an error message saying the site isn't available, but if I have a link in here I can watch. Any ideas of why this might be happening?

This is what I got to work in the US.

Download and install Firefox browser.  install add-on for UrbanVPN (it is free).

Open firefox, start urban vpn (click on icon in toolbar) and choose new zealand for the server.  start the vpn by hitting the play triangle.

Then paste the URL link from the first YouTube video (right click on video in this thread and copy URL).  paste url into the Firefox.

UrbanVPN is an extension on Chrome as well and it works by selecting the New Zealand server.

It is also available for Safari, so I guess I could have just used that.  I just wanted to keep it separate from the normal browsing.

I also used the Urban VPN to get a free access on demand account account with TVNZ.  It gave me the free account that I can login to, but it still will not play any programs because it gives me the following error code:

This video cannot be watched from your location. If you're in NZ, please deactivate any VPN or Smart DNS service you may be running, and make sure timezone settings are correct on your device

dont forget to try the obfuscated servers on nord

nord has an nz server .. but tvnz / spark may have the address and block it ... if they haven't you can watch straight from tvnz site

kodi addons provide far more options  ( far to many to list individually )

live nettv .. is worth a try .. i have only found an APK for install that's android only .. can be installed on a kodi setup or try it on bluestacks if your not into kodi

there is always a way

just keep asking till you get a workable solution

I'm surprised about all the hand wringing concerning how to get the live feed for free.  I'm sure americascup.com will post a free copy of the live broadcast  soon after each race day, as they did in 'Frisco and Bermuda.  So why not go to bed at a reasonable hour and watch the race while enjoying your breakfast?

I'd like to take this opportunity to dunk all over your idiocy. The AC will not be streamed live on Youtube and Facebook in the USA. So if ANYONE in the states wants to watch it, they have to pay NBC or use a VPN. This is absolute SHIT. ETNZ is only making the AC more exclusive by working with NBC.

I would agree.  I don’t know who is behind it but it’s very ironic and un-American I may add that the America’s Cup isn’t broadcast for free in America.  I mean it’s is the America’s Cup is it not?

But if I live in Tonga, Mexico, North Korean, or Russia I can stream all day for free.

I don't know US broadcasting, but is there any one provider that would cover the entire US? Stitching together US-wide coverage with multiple providers might be tricky? No idea what the commercials around that would be like, but nigh on impossible I'd suggest?

There are several sports channels that cover the entire country: ESPN, NBCSN, Fox, CBSSports. ACE went for the payday rather than making access easy for people here.

True, though have you tried to stream video via YouTube? I know a funeral that had a live stream that YouTube dropped because their algorithms picked up music in the background and decided it was contrary to terms of service...

Not an excuse, but might be more complicated than it seems from the outside?

That's some rather anecdotal evidence. With so many users on YouTube, you can absolutely find a time when it didn't work if you want. But the only evidence you need to confirm that the platform is good is that ACE is streaming THIS cup on YouTube. Clearly, they are fine with it.  All of which is to say, this isn't complicated: NBCSN wrote a check and got exclusive rights. Q.E.D.

Dalts sold the US rights to NBC.  Most sports in the US are aired free and the network gets its money back from advertisements.  For some reason, NBC thinks it can charge $175 to watch live.  Beyond stupid.  Also beyond stupid is that Dalts didn't require live viewing from NBC.  Ya think Dalts got more $ without that requirement?  Asking for a friend.

Presumably with a significant sports event like this, they would be able to reach prior agreement not to fuck with the stream?

After all, this would drag a decent audience onto their platform. I reckon at this peak, the viewership could top 10 or 15 Million.

Not massive, but not nothing either.

I'm sure the contract with NBC requires that NBC carry the cup events live. The contract clearly also permits NBC to make the event basically ppv for the live portion, which suggests that NBC paid more for the rights figuring it would make the extra with ppv revenue.
