Help an idiot out, scanning qr codes

Recommended Posts

Am I the only person left that still uses a flip phone?

Anyway I need to scan a qr code, obviously not with my flip but I do have a samsung tablet that should do the job. I just can't figure out how.

Yes I did google it and followed the directions, no joy. The group of people that sent the code are incredibly busy right now, they don't need to deal my frivolous problems.

Help out this neanderthal please.

I use a flip phone. But I have no idea what a qr code is much less how to scan it.

Merry Christmas! (Remember, computers make life easy)

Depending on the age of your tablet, it may already have a QR code app built in. On my Galaxy 9 phone, you get to it by pulling down from the top of the screen to expose the flashlight, wifi control, and other related functions. In there is a QR scanner. Failing that, follow Trovao's suggestion and just search on the app store for a broadly used and highly rated free app, there are many.

New iPhones you just point the camera at it and the phone figures it out.

yup, had never had to scan a qr, went to a restaurant this year and the menu was a qr code on the table...   SE recognized it and brought up the web page..

was wondering what they did for really old people..    i'm guessing they had a few menus in the back..

They still sell flip phones.

If your phone has a camera, check the camera settings. If it is QR capable there should be something.

I fiddled with my camera settings once and the QR scan was turned off. I had to reset the camera because I did not know what turned it off.

I'd just leave and go to a restaurant where phones are banned at the table.

Often a qr code is just a hyper link http://www.google.com you click on the link and it takes you some where.  Business cards often have a direct download of their digital contact information.

Flip phones without a browser can not deal with a qr code.

Your tablet should be fine. Search the play store for qr code and lots of free options my jump up.  Install the app.  Launch the app and point your tablets camera at the code.  They scan usually as fast as barcodes at the grocery store.   Follow the link.

At my work we put a qr code on every piece of equipment sold which linked back to a digital version of the repair manuals.  If you lost your manual you could get another copy.  Those manuals where then linked to our website allowing you to order parts from our website just by click on the pictres in the web version of the manual.

Variations of the is coming out everywhere. As a qr code can be engraved in metal or wood and read just fine.
