I thought guns were illegal in DC? Why hasn't she been detained & searched - her own words should be reasonable suspicion.

If they do a full cavity search they might find a few long guns.

Some folks take great pride in their ignorance and go out of their way to flaunt it, even to exaggerate it. They like to show it off like they are wearing a lair of the latest Air Jordans. I don't get

You are talking about folks that were taking selfies, some with their company IDs hanging from their necks. Burner phones to cover their tracks?  I'm surprised they didn't order delivered pizzas

We've had some bad experiences with pardoning nazis attempting a coup here in Germany. I'd strongly advice against such measures.

Excellent. Now fine them a hand for bringing a gun in.

Pelosi has announced fines for bringing guns into the chamber. I'ts OK to have a .50 cal in your office, though. I hope she is there when Boebert tries her shit.

Quote

Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) announced Wednesday that starting next week, lawmakers will face hefty fines if they refuse to go through newly installed metal detectors to enter the House chamber.

Pelosi said that the House will adopt new rules when it returns to session Jan. 21 to mandate stiff fines for bypassing security: $5,000 for the first offense and $10,000 for the second. The fines will be deducted from lawmakers' salaries.

“It is tragic that this step is necessary, but the chamber of the People’s House must and will be safe," Pelosi said in a statement.

The incoming fines for refusing to comply with new security measures come after numerous House Republicans berated Capitol Police officers on Tuesday and Wednesday for asking them to go through the metal detectors.

Several GOP lawmakers defiantly pushed past Capitol Police and sergeant-at-arms staff into the chamber without going through the magnetometers.

Members of Congress are typically given a pass on going through security in the Capitol complex if they show their lawmaker pins. But the new security measure went into effect Tuesday after last week's attack on the Capitol by a violent mob in support of President Trump that tried to stop Congress from ratifying President-elect Joe Biden's Electoral College victory.

“To ensure compliance with Capitol Police Board regulations concerning firearms and incendiary devices, as well as to provide a safe and secure environment in which to conduct legislative business, effective immediately, all persons, including Members, are required [to] undergo security screening when entering the House chamber,” acting House Sergeant-at-Arms Timothy Blodgett wrote in a memo to lawmakers and staff.

Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.), who has pushed for carrying a gun in the Capitol, was seen by reporters Tuesday night setting off a metal detector and declining to turn over her bag to the police for inspection.

Another House Republican, Rep. Steve Womack (Ark.), shouted at police to "get back" and "don't touch me."

Five people died in last Wednesday's mob attack, including a Capitol Police officer, Brian Sicknick, who was bludgeoned by the rioters. Another Capitol Police officer, Howard Liebengood, reportedly took his own life over the weekend after being on duty last on the day of the attack.

More than 50 other Capitol Police and Metropolitan Police officers were injured, including several who had to be hospitalized. And during House floor debate Tuesday night, Rep. Mary Gay Scanlon (D-Pa.) revealed that one officer is likely to lose an eye and rioters tried to shoot another officer with his own gun.

“On behalf of the House, I express my deepest gratitude to the U.S. Capitol Police for the valor that they showed during the deadly insurrection on the Capitol, as they protected the lives of the staff and the Congress," Pelosi said in the statement announcing the fines for bypassing the metal detectors outside the House chamber.

“Sadly, just days later, many House Republicans have disrespected our heroes by verbally abusing them and refusing to adhere to basic precautions keeping members of our Congressional community, including the Capitol Police, safe," Pelosi added.

Also on Thursday, an employee with Cleveland public schools was charged with entering and committing unlawful activities on the grounds of the Capitol. The woman, Christine Priola, was traced through an anonymous tip to the F.B.I. after she was recognized in photographs posted to Twitter, according to court documents.

Photos from last Wednesday showed Ms. Priola inside the Capitol and holding a sign that read, “The children cry out for justice,” which law enforcement later recovered from her home. She resigned from her position as an occupational therapist the next day, according to a copy of her resignation letter that was obtained by Cleveland’s Fox 8 News, in which she espoused a number of conspiracy theories.

Sometimes, when you encourage people to do something, they do it.

Attorney for 'QAnon Shaman' says Trump has an 'obligation' to pardon his supporters who attacked Capitol

I have no doubt President Trump would love to Pardon all who participated - to ensure their continued support and/or make the opposition's* heads explode.

But, should he do that, it may be seen as an admission he has some culpability.

* By "opposition", I mean Americans who prefer to use elections to select leaders, as opposed to the mob rule we saw attempted on January 6.

Or is DC strictly federal?

A Texas real estate agent and “life coach” hopped a private jet to storm the Capitol video taped herself planning to do it and also in the act of doing so.

No word if she’s going to refund the people she “coached”.  At some level this is darkly funny.

https://www.thedailybeast.com/jenna-ryan-texas-real-estate-agent-who-flew-to-dc-on-private-jet-arrested-in-capitol-riots?ref=home

The next day, she posted a bathroom mirror selfie on Facebook with the caption: “We’re gonna go down and storm the capitol. They’re down there right now and that’s why we came and so that’s what we are going to do. So wish me luck.” She added: “This is a prelude going to war.”

In a since-deleted video, she filmed herself going into the Capitol through the Rotunda. She walked past broken windows, up some stairs, and said, “We are going to fucking go in here. Life or death, it doesn’t matter. Here we go.”

Then, she turned to the camera and added, “Y’all know who to hire for your realtor. Jenna Ryan for your realtor.”

Once a person has indulged in closely guided aspirational understanding of words and phrases, it’s a long road back.  But everyone has to admire BM’s ability to pivot on a word or phrase with a completely different take and proudly prance and preen, proclaiming his ability to own a liberal.  It’s tempting to think he’s dehumanized liberals enough, in his own mind and heart, to buy and sell them.  You know, slavery.

Maybe he was just trying to collect a complete set?

Had an interesting chat with one of the assistant managers of our Wal-Mart in town, who recognized me as one of the voting bus drivers. He said it was a nice benefit and he was going to suggest that Wal-Mart help pay for it next time. He's at least somewhat of a Trump supporter. But the hassles and struggles of trying to keep a work force actually getting work done, at near starvation wages, is very real to him; and he's for damn sure not getting rich on it. I bet if I told him, "It was tried right around here, 150 years ago, and proven: you cannot beat people into doing profitable work. Not even something dirt-simple like growing cotton." He would agree fully.

LOL, that avi seems to only be funny to me, since no one knows the difference.  No, I'm way south of CdL, we have a sailing club here but it's a bunch of Cat sailors who get together like once a year.   I basically gave up racing for skiing when I moved here.  I had a good long run in SoCal culminating in getting our ass kicked in Buenos Aires J24 Worlds, then that was it.  It's probably what I miss the most, but 40 years of various OD racing was a pretty good run.
