Ohmboy 2 #4 Posted January 14 Seems like a good argument for something unsinkable, that way it would usually just end up inverted. That boat doesn't have much freeboard when all is well.
Liquid 299 #5 Posted January 14 I guess you can't train on a raging river if it ain't a raging river! The Willamette River is raging right now after days of heavy, snow melting rain. The river is up 5' to 20' in 2 days in Salem... 9' up to 23' here 30 miles north! Lot's of water moving by!
Grande Mastere Dreade 2,181 #6 Posted January 15 well that sucks... hopefully noone hurt and they recover their boat...

Liquid 299 #10 Posted January 15 I'm even more baffled now! Training how to pull a pinned tree off a concrete pier for no reason what so ever, while a ba-ga-zillion gallons of water rushing past?????

Thanks for clearing that up . Like liquid I am baffled by the whole exercise and outcome . It just seams so poorly handled .

toddster 464 #14 Posted January 16 Now that the water levels are coming down, there is a LOT of wood on the beaches. Possibly due to recent mega-wildfires up-stream. Should be some epic bonfire parties this spring. Unless it all gets flushed again...
PHM 19 #15 Posted January 20 The dog clearly knew this wasn't going to end well...
Liquid 299 #16 Posted January 20 what if they moved that pinned tree just enough for it to come free and go down stream on the wrong side of the pylon...?
Bristol-Cruiser 1,066 #17 Posted January 20 Their boat didn't look like it was up to the task. Very low freeboard even at the stop. You get what you pay for.

It looks like they are trying to remove the tree that is pinned against the bridge piling. Total waste of time, resources. That tree was not affecting the bridge. If it was necessary, should have been pulling from the root ball side.

longy 502 #20 Posted January 20 Well, at least one guy was smart enuff to stay dry as the boat slowly rolled over
Kenny Dumas 278 #21 Posted January 20 Count the mistakes: 1. Tied tow with no quick release 2. Towed downstream instead of up 3. Nobody had a knife 4. Crew goes aft to help sink
Big Bob 14 #22 Posted January 21 The biggest tragedy in this whole bit, assuming no lives were lost, was the cell phone camera operator. The horizontal is much preferred. At least we could have seen both points of interest. Drives me nuts. My sister does this also.
