billy backstay 1,008
LOL!! My days of racing top tier sailing vessels are well past now. Lucky if I can get a middle spot on an Etchells of late. OTOH, if a certain Schock 40 has not been sold by start of the season, I may have a spot at mainsheet trimmer....
AJ Oliver 1,341
The boat from Amway may be toast . .

SloopJonB 8,596
I thought this was the USS Amway.
AJ Oliver 1,341
Must . . . not . . . give . . . in . . .to schadenfreude - which is actually not a very good emotion. It can mess with your Juju, Mojo and even that Karma thingy. But still . . I might make an exception just this once. For sure, very glad that the crew are OK. But wait, when you are leading in a race, why go for a risky maneuver ?? (I'm sure the Cup Anarchy site is much better informed on this . . )

That boat was docked in the nearby Huron River a few years back . . and somebody untied in during the night. Hilarity ensued. They never caught the perps, but if they do I'd pardon them in a heartbeat. SORC 1982 IIRC, on Shorty Trimingham's Holland 40 footer, "Flirt of Paget", I got to drive a lot downwind, as I could keep her surfing a wave longer than the other boys.... roundthebuoys 693
Could the Prada Cup be any more symbolic of America right now? Crash, almost sink, get saved by NZ, England and Italy, only to have a herculean effort required just to get back in the race.
Chris in Santa Cruz, CA 511
However it happened they tried to turn the boat without letting the main out sufficiently. They were far in the lead and there was no need to make such a decisive helm input and were at the point of no return in like 2 seconds. Boat flew up, slammed down and stopped sideways to the wind with no way on to get the boat rotated into the wind. Blew over. Like a huge Hobie Cat.
