Washington (CNN)Dr. Anthony Fauci said Friday that the lack of truthfulness from the Trump administration regarding the Covid-19 pandemic "very likely" cost American lives.

"Particularly when you're in the situation of almost being in a crisis with the number of cases and hospitalizations and deaths that we have -- when you start talking about things that make no sense medically and no sense scientifically, that clearly is not helpful," Fauci, the chief medical adviser to President Joe Biden, said on CNN's "New Day" Friday.
Asked by CNN's John Berman if the lack of candor over the last year and lack of facts, in some cases, cost lives, Fauci said, "You know, it very likely did."

That was back when it was the responsibility of Governors.

Now, it's the President's "show".

People who have been raised to bullshit cannot be trained to tell the truth. All we can do is raise honest citizens and hope that the numbers work in the favor of honesty.

In Fauci's quote above, he never mentions Trump or the Administration.  For all we know, he may have been referring to a non-partisan janitor in a coffee shop.

Did imposing the travel bans (for which he was called xenophobic) downplay the severity of the pandemic? Did setting up temporary hospitals and deploying hospital ships downplay the pandemic? Did invoking the Defense Production Act to produce ventilators and PPE downplay the pandemic? Did Operation Warp Speed which produced a vaccine in 9 months downplay the pandemic?

Yes, he called it a "hoax".

Quote

“Now the Democrats are politicizing the coronavirus. … One of my people came up to me and said, ‘Mr. President, they tried to beat you on Russia, Russia, Russia.’ That didn’t work out too well. They couldn’t do it. They tried the impeachment hoax. That was on a perfect conversation. They tried anything, they tried it over and over. … And this is their new hoax.”  — Trump, at a campaign rally in North Charleston, S.C.

And yes, he played it down

Quote

“We have it totally under control. It’s one person coming in from China, and we have it under control. It’s going to be just fine.”

— President Trump, in an interview with CNBC, was asked about the first diagnosed U.S. case. He said he wasn’t worried about a pandemic.

Quote

“We pretty much shut it down coming in from China.”

— Trump, in an interview with Fox News’ Sean Hannity, when asked how concerned he was about the coronavirus

Quote

“Looks like by April, you know, in theory, when it gets a little warmer, it miraculously goes away. I hope that’s true. But we’re doing great in our country. China, I spoke with President Xi, and they’re working very, very hard. And I think it’s going to all work out fine.”

— Trump, at a campaign rally in Manchester, N.H.

Quote

“When you have 15 people, and the 15 within a couple of days is going to be down to close to zero, that’s a pretty good job we’ve done.”

— Trump, at a coronavirus task force press briefing

Quote

“This was unexpected. … And it hit the world. And we’re prepared, and we’re doing a great job with it. And it will go away. Just stay calm. It will go away.”

— Trump, to reporters at the U.S. Capitol

Quote

“It’s going to be, really, a voluntary thing. You can do it. You don’t have to do it. I’m choosing not to do it, but some people may want to do it, and that’s OK. It may be good. Probably will. They’re making a recommendation. It’s only a recommendation.”

— Trump, in a task force briefing where he announced the face mask recommendation

Then again, I often get the impression that Dog and most of the elk don't even argue for the arguments sake. They just want to waste time and bandwidth. Maybe they also like to maintain elevated blood pressure of their readership.

Biden sacked Kathleen Kraninger, who was confirmed as director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau in 2018. Kraninger, who had no previous experience in consumer protection, immediately tried to undermine the agency’s role as a watchdog for the financial sector. She scrapped a landmark rule that restricted predatory payday lending, pressuring staff to downplay the resulting harm to consumers. And she refused to enforce a federal law that protected military personnel against a broad range of predatory lending. Her decision yanked federal support from military families who were defrauded by lenders. In the midst of the pandemic, Kraninger also approved a rule that allows debt collectors to harass Americans with limitless texts and emails demanding repayment.

Wow, who knew that Biden is a fan of far-right judicial opinions?

So, now we are back to holding Presidents 100% accountable for everything they say.

You should be good and rested, since that hasn't been the case for the last 4 years.

For the record, the "trajectory" is entirely due to the way the last guy approached the problem - downplay, dismiss, deny, and lie to the public.

Yes, not commenting over the last 4 years on shitstain's stupid, very offensive blatant lies DOES, IN FACT, mean you are not holding him accountable.  Especially when you are suddenly holding the new guy accountable within his first 36 hours for stuff he didn't even do and will likely take years to fix.

Dog, I seriously used to respect you here as a fairly even, level headed person who often defended the right from stupid and unwarranted attacks.  But these last 4 years have been painful to watch your decline and your spiral into hyper-partisanship with blinders on.  I honestly don't know how anyone, ANYONE, with more than a couple of brain cells bouncing around in their skull could think there was anything good or worth defending about HWSNBN.  In the first 6-12 months of his presidency, I tried hard to ignore the "nails on a chalkboard" style and look at the substance of what he was doing.  There were a few things early on I agreed with such as getting tough on illegal immigrants and on China trade imbalances.  But it became eva dent early on that aside from the style, the execution was also completely fucked up.  And then came the pandemic and his handling (or complete lack thereof) of it.  Any sense of being able to look past this clown show to find a tasty kernel in this pile of pony shit has long passed.  And I've never once seen you hold him accountable here.  I'm disappointed in you.  Not that you give two shits what I think...... but I would seriously look in a mirror and see if what is looking back at you is worth being proud of.  Same thing with @bpm57.  He has always come across as logical and fairly non-partisan and called a spade a spade where it was needed.  But to find out he's a die hard "Stop the Steal" person and supported (or at least excused) the insurrection on our democracy seriously pains me to watch once reasonable people buy into such obvious BS.

Sadly it was partisan. The rejection should have been national but it was partisan. Some Republicans joined in his rejection and some even left the party; but Shitstain was overwhelmingly supported by Republicans in the election, receiving more Republican votes than any Republican ever and indeed any candidate ever, save for Joe Biden. There was no debate over conservative ideas at the RNC; there was no GOP platform document.

Shitstain remains popular with Republican rank+file with 82% Republican support in his last Gallup poll. The few House Republicans who supported his impeachment are now unpopular with their colleagues. This despite the Congress they all serve in having been attacked by Shitstain's angry and armed mob hours before. Liz Cheney is now in the process of getting ousted from her leadership position.

The judgment of Shitstain has been and is profoundly partisan and consequently we have to conclude that the defense of this waddling piece of human garbage is also partisan. The Republican Party, elected and voters, has become a personality cult.

Well, if you want them to representative of the entirety of the insurrectionist crowd, no.

But, you know that isn't accurate to do so.

Nice try.

That was just the cheerleader squad.

The idiot on the right, holding the Trump flag is displaying his ID from work.  I mean, from the place where he USED to work.

They have become a fascist insurgency against the Constitutional gov't of the U.S. If they win a majority again, the odds are high that it's all over.

"Would you let this man pump gas into your car"?

That actually wasn't an ID card from work.

What it said was;

"My name is...."

"I live at...."

"If I am out after dark, please call...."

Yes, there appear to be many RWNJ's actively seeking to overthrow the government and permanently install a right wing leader.   Luckily, they are telegraphing their plans over on Gab.com, so the FBI can see what they are up to.

Trump wasn't competent, but had he been there isn't much doubt he could have overthrown democracy in the USA.  Both parties need to take some lessons from what just happened and work to provide better safeguards.

If the presence of a few anti-constitutional fascists within a political party that has won power really means it's over....It's over.

The daily Mail doesn't understand how primaries work, regardless, I hope the Patriot Party becomes a thing.  A third party splitting Republicans up.  Which one would dog join?

When that party cheers them, and threatens everybody who doesn't cheer them, then that party has become an enemy of the country itself

Yet you had no problem with a certain former candidate that offered to pay the legal expenses for anyone who beat up a liberal at one of his rallies.
