Cal20sailor 2,442
He lived in Detroit for a while. I still remember howling at the story when a hooker robbed him...she even took his fucking teeth! https://www.nytimes.com/1981/01/16/sports/leon-spinks-tells-police-he-was-attacked-robbed.html Won a gold in the '76 Olympics at light heavyweight; these were the Olympics where Howard Cosell kept saying 'lateral movement' every 10 seconds when commentating on the US boxing team. RIP Leon, you were never boring.

Cristoforo 421
1 hour ago, footlong said: What is boxing now. RIP I’ve always been a huge boxing fan. But what the MMA guys do is just insane. Don’t really see boxing ever being relevant again except for the occasional Tyson Fury type freak show. Boxing is barbaric! The object is to knock your opponent unconscious with heavily padded gloves. What could be worse? Than a sport comes along where you can legally choke and strangle and kick your opponent in the face until he’s unconscious. What a beautiful thing!

WhoaTed 43
One of the characters from the 60’s-early 80’s golden years of heavyweight boxing. There was always something interesting, drama, or craziness going on leading up to or after a heavyweight fight back then. Some of the best fights, fighters, and boxing-related characters of all time, and with rare exception the guys respected each other and many remained friends long afterward. Thanks for being part of it Leon, RIP.
