Steve 80
That's good news, particularly for those who have already received it, so it seems that the first two vaccines to roll out were not part of warp speed.
TheDragon 575
It is excellent news as there are lots of countries where Pfizer/Moderna is not really feasible, and we need to get this pandemic under control worldwide. The surprise is that the various Chinese-made vaccines don't seem as effective, so what is wrong with them? Surely they also express the spike protein, so do their vectors just not do as good a job? The biggest evidence that the PRC didn't do this intentionally and the CCP is just bad = how ineffective their biomedical research is when it comes to covid-19. Part of the nationalism nonsense was pushing traditional chinese medicine crap. A paradox of effective controls + political shit for brains in basic scientific research. TheDragon 575
Let's see. For the past decade the USA has been unable to put people into space, instead depending on Russia to do it. Russia has had excellent virologists for many decades. I would be very happy to take their vaccine. The bias against other countries from people in the USA is amazing. Even Fauci does it occasionally, for example questioning the speed with which the UK approved the Oxford/AstraZeneca and other vaccines, then having to back off. And like the USA fucked up Covid testing this time last year because with unbelievable hubris they decided to develop their own PCR tests instead of using the WHO test that everyone else used. Right, great move. And USA still has not approved the Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine, WTF! Now taking 22 days just to schedule the FDA review of the JnJ vaccine. Wonderful sense of urgency about the need to get people vaccinated to head off the new variants rapidly spreading in the USA, NOT! USA got itself into this mess for many reasons, including the profound stupidity of banning travel from China, and then Europe, but not for USA citizens, who happily wandered back into the country by the thousands and went home to all 50 states having had only a temperature check, WTF! And then the freedom-loving idiots who refuse to wear masks and socially distance, led by their fearless idiot president, managed to make us the greatest in the world, soon to pass half a million deaths and a crushed economy. USA FIRST, even if profoundly stupid. Okay, rant over, but please, spare me the hubris against other countries, have just a little humility. Believe it or not, but the USA is not the best at everything, commonly screws up royally, and other countries are actually quite good at lots of things, sometimes better than the USA.

Now taking 22 days just to schedule the FDA review of the JnJ vaccine. Oxford/AZ has not submitted their vaccine for approval. Impossible to approve something that has not been submitted. It is fairly well known that AZ does not have all the necessary data to complete their submission due to protocol errors in part of their trial and will submit some time around April when they have completed a phase 3 trial. We could encourage them to submit partial data but the preliminary numbers were so opaque, the US is content to wait until the company is confident enough to submit an application. My father in law has rec'd the AZ first dose. I would prefer he had recd the Pf vaccine

The bodyguards were fat ex-military types (apparently, but if they were they were in the army they must have been in the catering corps) who did nothing but play games on their phones about 20 hours a day. I have met scarier Labradors. The guy and his slut GF only wanted to sail for two hours each day from about 3 pm until 5 pm then go to a restaurant for dinner. They would come back to the boat about midnight and then watch Russian TV shows on their Ipads until dawn, sleep, wake up at 2 in the afternoon and repeat. The Bodyguards sat in the cockpit playing with their phones all night until the boss went to sleep and then they would crash out as well. It seems people can only be kidnapped when they are awake in Russia. The guy talked it up like he was some kind of oligarch, but he must have been at the lower end as he bitched about how expensive Ubers were in Australia. His slut GF was a complete fuckwit, she had a head like a dropped pie and a body like a sack of shit tied in the middle but kept talking about her days as a model in Paris. The only thing she could model would be full face motorcycle helmets. When she wanted something she would snap her fingers at me. Less shipping containers floating around.... Perhaps a new era of sail-powered cargo ships? https://gcaptain.com/michelin-commits-to-shipping-tires-on-sail-powered-cargo-ships/ This seems pie in the sky: https://gcaptain.com/tesla-of-the-seas-british-company-unveils-zero-emission-ship-concept/

LB is a pretty strange guy though. You never know. Although according to the OP, Sputnik offers "complete protection against hospitalisation and death." Maybe we should all get it. Sail Forever! The Social Security Trust Fund would be screwed. Yeah, well, you know me. Cold War vet and I always thought the problem was communists but now I'm thinking part of it was Russian imperialists too, who just seem to try on different ideologies and hobbies ("Oligarch? Da...") like the rest of us grab a Mount Gay hat. There is still no news in Pravda, and no truth in Tass, and vice versa. Never mind the RT.

It was found guilty of fraudulent commercial practices. In 2010, AstraZeneca was fined 520 million euros for recommending unauthorized use of a drug. In 2011, Merck payed a fine of $ 628.36 million to resolve allegations of off-label marketing and false statements about the cardiovascular safety of a drug. In 2013, a fine of 1.62 billion euros was imposed on Johnson & Johnson to resolve criminal and civil liability arising from allegations relating to the prescription of three drugs including promotion for uses not approved as safe and effective by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and payment of kickbacks to physicians and to the nation’s largest long-term care pharmacy provider. I guess I was mistaken: You never hear any allegation of wrong doing by a Russian pharma company.

You cannot rate the vaccines against each other based on the Efficacy rating because they were tested separately not head to head. It will take a few years after vaccinations to see where the virus rears it's ugly head again to see which vaccine worked better. Then there is life style to factor in also.
