I'm betting That^^ was a contributory factor in his demise.  Just saying.

He used to broadcast from the same building where I worked, 2 Penn Plaza, I saw him come off the elevator once, he was a surprisingly small guy in person. I despised him until that moment, then I saw him as something like a guy who happened to have a good voice for radio and was sufficiently malleable in his communications to adapt to the flavors of the day. I had a bit of pity for him after that, even back then, he was kind of a broken old man.

Fox News website has Rush all over it like a rash.  The headline:

"GREATEST OF ALL TIME"

Rush Limbaugh, influential talk radio pioneer who helped shape modern-day GOP, dead at 70

In a strange way, I am starting to admire the GOP and it's propaganda arm in that they are starting to own their shit and don't give a fuck.   It's like if Harvey Weinstein were to croak, The Weinstein Company would honor the guy as setting their HR standards.

“For everyone about to tweet out a joke or otherwise revel in the death of Rush Limbaugh I just ask that you pause and ask yourself: am I going big enough? This man was a fucking demon don't hold back.”

To paraphrase, I don't celebrate his death. But I do approve of it.

The legendary Moms Mabley had a great line.  “They say you should only speak good of the dead.  He’s dead; that’s good.”

The man was a walking contradiction.

Dismissed a link between smoking and lung cancer while puffing on stogies.  What killed him?

Loud and proud about the evils of drugs.  What was he exposed as?

Made up "facts" to support his outlandish claims.  All those claims of "studies show", while never linking to a study.

He was a self-parody who taught many people to hate those with whom they disagreed.

I don't celebrate his death.  But, I don't mourn it, either.

Who paid his salary and why?

Premiere Radio Network, which syndicated his hate over 500 small market radio stations across the south and mid-west fly-over country for 40 years.  They made a fortune and he made a fortune and the result was 73,000,000 deplorable votes for the former Grifter-in-Chief now licking his wounds in Mar-a-Loco.

From the NYT

"There is nothing about the dead that makes them saints once passed. Rush Limbaugh showed no compassion, veered from the truth and incited anger and hatred his entire radio career. He used his life to wreak havoc and cause enormous, and I fear, permanent damage to this country. I, for one, am unable to mourn his passing."

Unfortunately, he understood what his abundant American audience wanted. (that should have been a red flag for all Americans)

Why is so difficult for people to understand the difference between entertainers, and news reporters.

Perhaps they should teach about this in American schools, let's call it,   "flim-flam 101"

Some idiot in Wisconsin, the Republican Speaker of the Assembly, has called on the Governor, a Democrat, to lower the flags to half staff in commemoration of Limbaugh.

Irony? Ha ha ha ah ha cough cough ha ha.

The RWNJ's never miss an opportunity to showcase their intellectual limitations.

Words like contempt, disdain, disgust, despise, scorn, loathing, revulsion are a bit beyond their vocabulary or understanding.

In their shallow thought processes they only seem able to comprehend "Haters gotta hate", nothing more nuanced or subtle.

Limbaugh, who does not enjoy contretemps, has cut some of his material, especially on homosexuals. He says he was tired of the “harassment” and also feeling a greater responsibility as his audience grows. He killed a running bit on AIDS after two weeks. “It’s the single most regretful thing I’ve ever done,” he says, “because it ended up making fun of people who were dying long, painful and excruciating deaths, when they were not the target. It was a totally irresponsible thing to do.”

The one and only time I played his show he was going on about women in the military. His plan was divide them up to always have a "PMS Squad" ready to fight. He was really funny if you're a 7th grader and not one of the brighter ones either, we were done with period jokes around the middle of 7th grade IIRC

That guy had a nice library.  It was modelled on the one in the Biltmore House.  Of course, George died young and the wife took over.  The family had hundreds of millions, when that was real money.  They out housed each other.

He really did incalculable harm to the country . . .

turned people against each other for fun and profit.

He was a main actor driving a sea change in American political culture . .

and not in a good way.

I drew the line at apple pie and fireworks which are forces of good in the world. I don't have a beef with you and if I offended you at some point it was accidental and unintended.

I was not a regular listener, if I happened to be in the car was about it. I admired the grace with which he handled his deafness, his overcoming addiction, and in dealing with the cancer that finally took him. I never heard hate from him. I never heard him cross the line, although I understand he did. (There was something about Sandra Fluke that prompted him to call and apologize for). What I heard was an advocate for conservatism and that's enough to expose the hate and soullessness we see here.

He wasn't a demon, he was human like the rest of us, and now he's gone....RIP Rush.

I never heard that.

Edit: I did find this in Snopes from the Times...
