fastyacht 1,601
We get superior mirages on Long Island Sound all Spring. Sometimes the North Fork looks like 5,000 foot cliffs. Other times it looks like church spires on the cliffs of Dover. Sometimes Faulkner's Island inverts and becomes flat-topped. I've seen seen it do that but with the house still sticking up. If you move even a foot vertically it can all change--the mirage can sometimes happen in just the first 3 feet of air. Other times I can see it from the top of the road 15 feet above the beach, 20 feet MSL.
Sail4beer 2,224
I sailed Long Island Sound in August and the NYC skyline kept getting taller as we sailed away to Connecticut. It was a weird mirage..it looked like we were getting closer and closer.
