Bob Perry 1,330
Hi Bob, We are still having success against the Melges 32's, Farr 30's and custom Hick 30's Dovell etc... everyone loves the boat. You did a great job - thanks Bruce https://www.sail-world.com/photo/309314
ryley 682
that's awesome, but.. is that rudder deflection just an optical illusion?
glass 134
YES, it is an optical illusion regarding the Betts c/f aftermarket rudder in the above photo FT10M owners went through phony rudder deflection claims by a few California PHRF pickle dish hunters who wanted to use Betts custom designed c/f rudder without rating penalty while refusing to equalize the weight differential by using corrector weights in the transom. Those are the same clowns that killed the FT10M as a one design class by failing to produce any quantitative and qualitative data that supported their phony claims. It was the sailors that made the difference, not the rudders. 1
Rasputin22 3,484
I think there is a photo of a FT 10 hanging bow down by being lifted by its rudder cassette that was in response to 'rudder shortcomings' similar to those mentioned by glass. Found it
timber 68
Are they using shorter stature people to make the boat look bigger?

And I have seen Rasper's picture before too and wasn't doubting the strength of the cassette. I just didn't think that the rudder in the picture looked, well, straight. It looks about the same angle of deflection, and on about the same point of sail, that my phil's rudder was when it went kersnappy. I'm glad they're enjoying the boat though. Tarnish 6
We are just a couple of posts in... and already we have the “rudder” argument and the famous “hanging” picture. Now all we need is “deposit or STFU” and “what’s it rate”. It is amazing, after all of these years, the strong reactions to this boat. I owned one for a few years and enjoyed every minute. I have even considered buying one again. In the main SA forum there is a post about the Tiger QMN in Atlanta - we enjoyed sailing against them on Lake Lanier, it was great to have a small one design class for a few years. They are nice sailing, well mannered, and beautiful boats. They seem to have held up well and I am sure the new owners will get many years of enjoyment from the design. Thanks Bob!
