Hobot - sounds like you've struggled long and hard enough for that corner you need to turn to be just ahead. Please keep your eye on that prize and get back to this group of weirdos as soon as possible. You're needed.

All my best wishes and thoughts go to Hobot and Hope. Maybe especially to Hope, as I can only imagine how awful she must feel not even being able to see him.

I have loved the RT thread, with the many dozens of rabbit holes I've been sent down, and even more the fond memories of things I had almost forgotten. Like My dad's Corolla.

I really hope that thread can be recovered to be sure, and that Hobot finds even more rabbit holes for me to wander down.

It matters much more that Hobot himself recovers though. Whether or not he ever posts another photo again.

Get well please, and go sailing!

Snags is now up in the highest branches of that big tree in the sky. Replaced him with Mary Anne & Ginger almost 4 years ago when I moved back down to Baja (again) full time. Not really my kind of dogs but they're Mom & Daughter and are great traveling pups and better than any alarm system money can buy. Except.....for being adopted Mexican dogs....they have absolutely ZERO fuking street smarts. As in they'd probably try to cross the 405 at rush hour if they thought for one second that there was a half eaten bagel on the center divider that had been there since the 90's.......

Hobot's oxygen was reduced from 90% yesterday to 70% last night to 40% this afternoon, so he must be close to getting off the ventilator.

They are still saying he's not out of the woods yet, but Hope noticed Facetiming with him, his color has returned.

They rolled him from his side onto his back last night, but he hasn't slept on his back for four years due to bad hips.

Even sedated they were able to see his discomfort, and now roll him side to side every half hour.

He's being fed via a tube into his mouth. The nurses according to Hope are actively busy with his care and monitoring non-stop.

He was taken off the paralytic drug and still heavily sedated.

Once he's out of the woods, he can return to coherency, he'll have 7-10 days of in hospital physical and occupational therapy.

He was planning for his first hip replacement in April, that will probably be put off for a couple months, till he gains better use of his lungs and endurance.

I just saw this, Man this is terrible, HoBot has done foredeck on FRANKIE and he is an all around really great guy. Damn!!

Please get better HoBot! We all need you for all sorts of reasons. (If they would let me I would go pick up Boomer and we would come visit you.)

Hope to talk with you soon, will send my best positive vibes Northeast from here, that should hit Edmonds.

I've heard 'em all.  When I was in high school gym class, we would line up in the gym for roll call. The guy next to me was named Noyes.  So the teacher would call Lada and then Noyes.  He would start to laugh and repeat Lada Noyes.  Which was fine except we only had 2 male gym teachers in the school and I went there for 6 years, so it kind of got old after a while.  Lada Noyes, ahhahahaha.  I don't know if the teacher is still alive now but if I saw him and told him who I was I'm sure he would say Lada Noyes, ahhahahaha.

I just saw this thread and add my best wishes and hope for a full recovery. I know it's possible so take it as it comes and let the people who love you help, not because you want or even need it but it helps them to do something. Try and remember they have felt helpless since this started. You will feel discouraged and that is okay just keep moving forward and you will be back to your normal soon. All of this is hard earned knowledge from dying a little over a year ago and coming back. Stay strong, our world will be diminished without you.

I don't know any of you (I think), but it is a bit like family and Hobot's thread has been a really amazing trip and a gift to all of us. I was worried because he had gone quiet and figured he was pretty upset about the thread disappearing, but this is different.

Indeed Russell quite so. Hobots keen eye for the compelling, the dynamic and the unusual has been an awesome gift for all  of us.

You know the owner of Frankie - Kim Bottles. I also met you, when I was the photographing Frankie at the School on a couple occasions when you were there, helping give insight to the deck mold and other construction details.

I also got some photographs and may have got some video, of you streaking by us in our Ranger 33 the wee morning hours passing Comox on the approach to Cambpell River in 2018 R2AK. No we weren't racing, just taking a cruise up the inside. We'd sheered the output shaft on our engine and continuing on under sail, and were scheduled to meet Kenmore Air at Port McNeil the following Saturday morning - they were delivering a new reversing gear, output shaft, gaskets, and few other minor parts for the replacement.

The Doctor called Hope this morning, and figured Hobot is turning the corner. COVID plays havoc on the kidneys, and Hobot may have to go three or more rounds of dialysis till his kidneys are functioning as properly as possible. They're continuing to wean Hobot off the oxygen, and hope to have him off the ventilator in a few days.

Just saw this thread and sending out best wishes for a speedy recovery.  Everyone has such a different journey with COVID which is what makes it so scary.  One piece of good news is that healthcare workers have learned a lot over the past year. Outcomes are better.  Please continue with updates as possible.  The SA community is clearly pulling for him.

Hope called this morning, and Hobot continues to improve. They've stopped giving some meds required to help, while starting other drugs that have proven effective in the march toward recovery. As his breathing and oxygen retainment have continued to improve, the respiratory therapist who works with the nurses, has disabled parts of the respirator including removing the extra tube and funnel shaped device from his mouth, which help with breathing. The respirator may be removed as early as Tuesday, and possibly as late as Wednesday. His kidneys are getting stronger too, but he may still require a couple to go through a couple rounds of dialysis. Hope gets a gets a couple one hour Facetime sessions a day, where the nurses also explain everything and why. However last night they allowed an extended Facetime session, which allowed Hope to read the well wishes from this thread, as well as those from other family and friends, and Mark's dog even got to bark some "missing you Dad." The  level of care by Swedish Hospital in Edmonds, has been exemplary in this regard, but I'm sure Hobot will be plotting his escape once he's not heavily sedated. He'll still have to go through respiratory, physical and occupation therapy.

Thanks Cal20sailor. My wife and I have been mask wearing and hibernating since the beginning of February - and now double-masking the past six weeks. I do get out once a week for a drive on the Olympic Peninsula for shooting some drone video, visiting my old windsurfing haunts, favorite ports and stops. Going to one or three of the following weekly. Oak Bay, East beach Marrowstone Island, Fort Flagler Marrowstone Island, Port Hadlock and the Northwest School of Wooden Boatbuilding or Irondale Beach. Port Townsend, Point Hudson Marina and checking the progress of friends boats in Boat Haven and at the Port Townsend Shipwrights Co-op and out to Fort Flagler. I also drive to my all time favorite windsurfing destination at Kline Spit inside of Dungeness Spit, which is better then the Gorge AFAIC. Then about every month a drive to check out the progress of Tally Ho at Dungeness by Leo and crew. I missed yesterday's hanging and hammering of the shutter planks and final Whiskey plank, and the wee dram after - due to getting my final vaccination in Port Orchard - but as usual Leo captured it on video.

One disturbing trend of coronavirus pandemic has been the growing focus on “superspreader events,” gatherings of people where even just a single infection spurs a large outbreak among attendees.

Outdoor gatherings are safer than indoor gatherings and indoor gatherings with the windows open and an airflow going through are better than not, but the whole nation observed an outside super-spreader event on the West Lawn of the nations Capital - this should have been an eyeopener.

We're going into the 4th wave of the pandemic folks as cases grow exponentially in 35 states . Here in Washington State, confirmed cases according to the New York Times, went up from 630 a week to 887 last week to 1185 yesterday, though the Seattle Times reported over 1400 yesterday.

Superspreader events that come from family events often catch those infected off-guard because they believe their family to be something of a safe “bubble,” a confined group of people they’re around often and won’t cause an outbreak. But, many don’t quite fully comprehend the fullest, strictest “bubble” concept.

They may be your family and friends, but often you don’t all live under the same roof. There’s still a risk because you don’t know if every member has completely isolated themselves from other people, whether they’ve been hanging out with friends or what public places they may have been. Even if you’re doing everything you should be doing, when you’re in a large group of people, it can be hard to rely on everyone else around you to do what they should be doing, too. They may wear a mask incorrectly or not wear a mask at all.

That's why it’s best to avoid these large gatherings altogether, and even more so, if no one is wearing a mask. However, if everyone is masking, that reduces the odds of catching the virus to 5%. One thing is certain, COVID has no regard for those who disregard the pandemic.

We know it can take anywhere from 4 to 14 days for the virus to incubate - so we'll have to wait to see how this pans out. However, if everyone was masking, that reduces the odds of catching the virus to 5%. One thing is certain, COVID has no regard for those who disregard the pandemic.

Europe is experiencing a 3rd wave right now.  Poland has registered daily deaths and new cases higher than all previous highs which were bad.  We are having per capita numbers on par with the US in deaths.  Our neighbor across the river, neighbor is also having daily increases requiring new lockdowns.  It pretty much sucks.

He's getting there Cruisin. Beside's, the least that I can do for a friend.

He requested that I do this to Hope, before he was intubated, because he wanted you all to know.

I've been spritzing my reusables w/ 90+% isopropyl  and keeping in ziploc

I was lucky enough to find (4) 32oz  very early, and then they dissapeared

, & I was nearly out, and to the point of going to the liquor store for everclear.

, but I scored (3) 16oz,   so the booze is safe, for now.

I got Moderna-chipped,

,  still going to keep putting up w/ foggy glasses for a while longer.

Thanks, Booms

, all of us hang in there,,

My wife was doing the same with Everclear last year for a couple months. She had the neighbor pick up a couple 1/2 gallons in Idaho. Then transferred that to smaller bottles, carrying a small container for hand sanitizing and spray bottles for sanitizing as well. When everyone was having difficulty keeping alcohol on the shelves, she found pint containers for one dollar at the dollar store. Then she found a 1/2 gallon of Equate Hand sanitizer gel in the second floor of our shop in September, which is almost gone now. However as the run on alcohol slowed, she's stocked up on more containers, so now we probably have a couple years supply. The same with toilet paper, and I noticed we have more then a few 48 pack cases in the downstairs utility room. My wife has always been one to make sure we stay stocked up, but I had to put my foot down on having more then a few years supply of TP on hand.

I've been on (quite literally) a steady diet of cheap tequila, cheap Tecate, cheap cigarettes and cheap coke down here for over a year, haven't worn a mask for more than 50 minutes in all that time, don't go indoors into stores or restaraunts, spend 98% of my time outdoors & within 100 meters of the high tide line (with predominately onshore winds).....and the only thing I've tested positive for.....is a deep seated aversion towards the Media, crowds and taco stands that don't know shit about making salsa.

Granted, I live in an area of less than 5000 people (haven't been up to Ensenada in months), so my own personal home-made vaccine may not be for everybody.....but it's been working for me for over a year. And the best part? I get to take it every day.....without making an appointment nor leaving my house. Win-win.....

Sounds similar to my life in Poland except substitute cheap vodka for cheap tequila and cheap vodka for cheap Tecate.  The wife bought a condo on the Baltic sea so I can sniff brackish air sometimes and substitute spending 98% of time spent outdoors for spending 98% of my time in front of my computer.  We don't have taco stands so I got nothing there but we do have hot women and damned good pierogi, so that must count for something right?  Especially at my age! And I don't have an aging classic American 4x4 but I have a 20 year old Mitsubishi Pajero Pinin 4x4, that's right sexy Italian styling on my little Japanese Jeep!  So were both living large in the time of the plague.
