or maybe this, fuckwit(s)-

Scientific American Magazine recently changed the wording they use in their articles from 'climate change' to 'climate emergency'.

according to them, that's where things are at.

Can someone explain the animus of many toward AOC ??

She is intelligent and presents herself well.

Why does she not have the right to argue for her beliefs ?

(Especially since she is strongly supported by her Congressional District)

She doesn’t recognize the inherent superiority of old white dudes and she is vocal about it. That, and she isn’t remotely apologetic about being a democRAT.

She really needs to drop that part of her name derived from the conquistador of the indigenous.  It's really offensive and likely to cause any statues erected in her honor to be cancelled.

She is female - that is enough right there for them to hate her.

Appears to be somehow related to Mexicans possibly - double hate.

She is smart - triple hate and times 2, they hate smart people.

She is pretty, looks good on TV, and knows how to use social media - worst nightmare time.

In the Republican dystopian nightmare they are fighting against, people like her are in charge of people like them.

If you think me an anti-AOCer, you know me too little.  That little hottie will one day be the Speaker of the House and soon thereafter the second woman president (Kamala) and the first latino prez.  I offer the GND posters in jest to get a jerk reaction from our beloved climate-deniers on the wrong side of the aisle and history.

In case you missed it, I order the full set of poster for my work office, so my co-workers in this destitute oil patch town won't have to guess my orientation (political, of course).

Well, to be fair she is also a card-carrying member of the Democratic Socialists of America.

which apparently scares some people who mistake DSA for a Leninist organization.

DSA is now up to about 85,000 members.

Of course the Reich has no interest in discussing the plusses and minuses

of socialism - it's all hysteria, all the time.

It would also be nice if the Reich were to denounce the thousands of death threats

that their side issues to AOC and her ElK - but not much chance of that.

You feel entitled to determine the acceptability of someone else's given name?  Stunning.

And, given your rationale, you should never disparage any one for "political correctness"

Of course, you'll claim you were being sarcastic.  But, you know there is a font for that.

I am actually referring to Cortez the conqueror.  Surely a name that must be canceled.  She needs to be more sensitive to the feelings of indigenous people.  Besides, why does she need two last names when most people are happy with one?

Why are you offended? I'm not offended. I actually find it amusing that you folks have no better argument than to call people names.

Joe runs against putting people in cages so when he get into office he builds more cages.

Trump sets a date to withdraw all troops from Afghanistan by May 1.  It is immediately opposed by the democrats.  Joe decides it would be better to have it happen on 9/11 so the Taliban can celebrate two events on the same day claiming total victory.

We have a herd of central americans demanding entry to the US.  Kamala is being sent to Guatemala (one of the most corrupt governments anywhere) to see how much of the 4 billion dollar aid package they need.  Hey, here's a fun game.  Google 'Guatemala president in jail' and see how many different names come up.

Nah, she can certainly give impassioned speeches and rile people up but when she isn't prepped she has some problems.

Like,

"They wanna say, 'But what about the surge?'" Ocasio-Cortez said on Tuesday night during an Instagram Live session. "Well, first of all, just gut check, stop. Anyone who's using the term 'surge' around you consciously is trying to invoke a militaristic frame."

"And that's a problem because this is not a surge, these are children and they are not insurgents and we are not being invaded, which by the way is a White supremacist idea-philosophy, the idea that if another is coming in the population that this is an invasion of who we are," the congresswoman continued.

I've always liked this exchange

Actually, it hasn't been tried yet. Let alone twice.

The main differences being the "in jail" condition (he hasn't faced jail time . . . yet), and the room that Sol so affectionately refers to where bullshit doesn't fly and facts make a difference (unlike the Senate).

Keep trying, though.

How racist of you to bring up the Puerto Rican heritage of combining the wedded last names of parents. You spent enough time in Europe to know that it is a common custom between families throughout the Continent. Then you ignorantly attach her last name to a Spanish conqueror who went by the name Cortes, not Cortez. Keep posting, the humor you generate is not bad at all.

It could be because her GND is a poorly thought out pipe dream. Or because she wants to pay reparations to people who entered the country illegally for their ‘mistreatment’.  Or it could be because she is a cunt who can’t express an original thought without massive preparation by her handlers. It’s true old white republicans don’t relate to her. Neither does much of her own party.  She will soon be forgotten by history faster than you can say ‘Beto Orourke’

It's totally fair to criticize AOC's policy positions . . . but how about using some cites and facts ?

Who are her handlers ? What specifically do they do ??

What is wrong with her version of GND ?

What about the reparations you mention ? Never heard of it.

Or maybe she thinks "reparations" is exactly the correct word

The Trump Administration deliberately seperated children from their parents as a punitive measure. They intended to terrorize the families and anybody considering the border crossing.

Given what your parents were probably like, I can see why you think it's no big deal to seperate families.

Let's review.
You commented on someone mentioning her public policy request suggesting reparations for illegal aliens.
You said you had never heard of her making that statement, which was reported on almost every news network this month.
You asked for a citation.  You were provided something better, an unequivocal video of her actually saying it.
You made no response on her policy. You had nothing to say.
So you did all you could with your limited capacity and cognitive abilities.
You resorted to disparagement and name calling, grouping people, avoiding policy comments. You used the very same tactics
you accused others of doing and are usually seen on levels even below junior high school.
You sir, can only aspire to some day reach a junior high school level of reasoning.

Extra credit. There is no reason to capitalize 'junior high' unless you are referring to a junior high school which is actually named 'Junior High'.
As an example one might say, 'AJ Oliver attended Junior High in Bartlesville, Oklahoma.  He failed to matriculate. The names of the  other schools in town were 'High School' and 'Elementary School'.

That's the fundamental problem ... we see these boffins drive around in Teslas and Priuses and we get this idea that they are environmentally responsible, while you see someone with a pickup truck and decided that he or she is destroying the planet.

The reality is that with the rare earth elements that these electric vehicles are sucking up, their impact to the global ecosystem is far worse than a twenty year old vehicle in many cases. The environment's health doesn't begin and end at carbon dioxide. There are many things to consider, like quality of air, quality of water, Criteria pollutants like NOx, SOx, VOCs, PMs. In some cases the "environmental footprint" of a mechanic in a rural spot in Indiana is less than a wealthy environmentalist in Los Angeles or New York City. The idea of applying political labels to measurable pollution of our air and water is a profoundly misguided effort.

This is the photo of the toxic effluent of a rare earth element mine in Jiangxi Province, China ...

Besides, The Former Guy had a lot of his support due to the fact that he WASN'T like the others.

Look what that did.

I'm referring to AOC ... she's against Puerto Rican statehood for "intellectual" reasons. As for the current guy and the former guy, and the guy before him, and the guy before him, and the guy before him, and the guy before him, and the guy before him, etc., they tend to be people with little practical training other than an ability to do think politics and talk politics.

I tend to like to vote for someone who knows how to do actual useful things, like repair things, build things, design things, heal people, heal animals, farm food, manufacture things. We keep electing these intellectuals, and we're not making terribly good progress with it.

This is the photo of the toxic effluent of a rare earth element mine in Jiangxi Province, China ...

you're wrong, I personally realize it's not as black/white as that and judging a book by it's cover isn't smart. but anyone who denies generalizations aren't solidly rooted in fact is being very dishonest.

btw, I don't need or want some layman's explanation in regard to the environmental picture as it is, it's clearly the godamn ultimate obscenity and it's on virtually every single one of us, to some extent or another.

I used to (and still do occasionally) review Energy Plus models and energy efficiency feedback for the DOE, and the generalizations to which you cling are wrong as often as they're right.

I pulled a year-long carbon feedback from a "NASCAR" family with big trucks, a newish Energy-Star home with lots of bedrooms in Kentucky, versus a "Whole Foods" family with bicycles a Nissan Leaf in a small reasonably upgraded 1950s ranch home in San Jose, California. The NASCAR family had a smaller footprint than the Whole Foods family. Yes, their vehicles added more CO2, but the better insulation in their home, the low-e windows, the much cleaner source of their energy in Kentucky that didn't need to draw on scarce water supplies for the heat sinking, and the tighter distribution chain in Kentucky, plus their relative lack of airplane flights versus the family in San Jose that took regular air flights for vacations and work ... the Kentucky family edged out the San Jose family, and the freezer full of deer meet in Kentucky did draw more power, but the family in San Jose that bought free-range meat trucked in and processed on a big distribution chain didn't help them one bit. The Kentucky family won, with nearly ten tons to spare.

We repeated these studies regularly, the results always surprised us. Once we even did it on ourselves, with the winner to receive gloating rights at the annual peer review. I didn't think my family could even rank ... we kept the house as 72 to 74 degrees in the winter (not my choice) we had (have) an energy sucking Jacuzzi in the backyard, and 5 bedrooms of space, with not an electric vehicle anywhere. But our house has six-inch walls, very good windows, high-efficiency water and HVAC. Amazingly, we came in third place, far ahead of several small cottages with Priuses. One poor participant even took bicycles and mass transit to work every day in the D.C. area, but his antiquated house and need for air travel just killed his stats.

Yes, it is on "every single one of us." And if we're really willing to see our contributions as they are, versus what we would like them to be, what we think they SHOULD be because of what is in our heads, then we'll make a lot more progress. But honestly 3to1, I find both sides of this fucking hilarious ...

When we plug the data into the engine, and the elk-hunting, propane-burning, truck-driving Wyoming redneck comes in with a low carbon footprint, I find that funny. And when the "woke" architect with the Tesla and LEED consulting business comes in with a higher carbon footprint, I find that even funnier. Ultimately, the numbers don't give a shit of the politics of the carbon producer. Australians shit all over us Americans with our carbon, but Australians have one of the highest carbon footprints per citizen in the world, a consequence of not so many people living on a continent and having relatively inefficient power and goods distribution.

Don't forget that charging the silly things requires load of natural gas (47% of CA's energy).  Nuclear provides more than wind.
