Feeling better now?

Recommended Posts

It just occurred to me.

How much more relaxed and cheerful I am after 100+ days of

No smirking plastic blonde Ivanka.

No vicious sneering Tweets from that trashy, low braggart.

No opening the news to see if we're all going to die tomorrow .

No rioting

No Trump induced anxiety in general.

If I feel like that in upsidedown land, I guess y'all must be feeling like the bad dream is over.

No matter what your political persuasion.

I made an appointment for the Covid shot as I'm over 70.  Got a spot in mid-July!  Well done Scotty ... we don't need no stinking targets!

What took you so long? I had my first shot last month and my second is due in July? What I find incomprehensible is the wide variety of anecdotes, from GP surgeries especially set up for vaccination openly, publicly complaining about total lack of supply, to ours, which couldn’t have been easier or faster. Happy to report, zero side effects, Didn’t even feel the needle.

And then the fact that most Ozzies have been veritable needle cushions most of their lives, for everything from polio, through tetanus to annual flue jabs, but for some reason, COVID vaccines “could be a risk”. WTF?

Actually, most USAeans who want the pokes have them by now.

Sad to report that the Super Spreader Reich are "hesitant".

As a result, lots of places have excess supply of Vaxx.

If we don't get 85% or so vaxxed GLOBALLY new variants will take root.

I got mine in late Jan & early Feb from the US Veterans Admin

The US will release four million doses of the AstraZeneca coronavirus vaccine to its neighbours, Canada and Mexico, the White House has said. The plan would mark the first time the US has directly supplied vaccines to another country.

You can just think your little thoughts, whatever makes you happy.

If you have a wife and a mistress, life's really good. The wife thinks you're off with the mistress, the mistress thinks you're with the wife and in fact you can piss off to the workshop and get some real work done.

And all 3 people are happy...

I am relieved but also saddened by the polarization of the  US (forget this place, that was obvious when I got here 15 years ago).  The refusal to accept an election and to get vaccinated are just beyond my comprehension at the moment.  I found out a friend died this weekend, very healthy athletic 50 year old, businessman (real estate) rancher who could weld, build, move, do anything. He and his wife got  covid just before they were eligible, she was sick, he died.

So am ok for the moment but concerned for the future when a significant portion of us want to make sure the bus doesn't just veer off the road (here that would be to the right) but crashes in the ditch, overturns, split by a tree, burst into flames and manages to impact anyone else close by.  Their vision of the future is a Stutopia of ignorance and hatred, if only they would all just go congregate in one place and leave the rest of us alone. But no, it requires fucking over anyone who doesn't march in lockstep with them. 40 years ago I realized I belonged to a cult, not doing that again.

My glass is half full and working to keep it that way.

Anchor Steam was bought by Sapporo a few years back. They still brew on Portrero Hill, and they have a tour (which is canceled for COVID now and waitlisted after).

It does look like the Aloha Club doesn't open until 3 and Forbidden Island (not my favorite) until 4.  Forewarned is forearmed. Note to self: pick up mint at Berkeley Bowl.

In Oz the vaccine rollout was deliberately delayed/late. Whether it was to avoid paying a price premium for being near the head of the queue, and/or being made to stand aside by our best friends and Allies while they went first, and/or due to extra caution concerning side effects in the real world, we will never know.

I was vaxxed within a week of opening of eligible roll out. There is also huge disparity in its speed and efficiency across the country. I still don’t understand why there are still health workers and carers unvaxxed yet I am. I don’t know @Recidivist’s circunstances.

Sidecar said it well.  It's not me prevaricating, and it's not as if I'm in an area of large population.  I can't explain the delay other than incompetence on the part of our federal government (we've missed every target we set, so we just won't set any more targets!).  Fortunately, there has never been COVID in the area in which I live, and we are semi rural anyway, so risk is very low.

We are basically rural, COVID risk here was/is practically zero. The Feds have handled the vaccine roll out badly, as well as citizen repatriation, especially from high risk areas.

COVID may still bite us in the backside because of it, even if it is only more unnecessary lock downs.

Something wrong with mixing booze and candy? Sounds like a GREAT idea to me

- DSK

Booze and candy sometimes works, but Bundy and candy is better suited for cleaning drainpipes than ingestion.

They have this one candy in Oz, the Flake bar, no idea why they've never brought it here, they used to sell it when I was a kid, it's very good. But recently, my Ghanese co-workers brought back a chocolate bar from Ghana, this one ...

1751598317_ScreenShot2021-05-04at1_12_45PM.png.2ed66b788c0504515fcc99cee2a2cf3f.png

TQ, named after Tetteh Quarshie, the Ghanese innovator that brought the Cacao bean to Ghana, and figured out how to turn it into an industry, he's a national hero. Anyway, that one goes awesome with booze, because there is almost no sugar in it, and the cacao is processed minimally. It makes other chocolates taste like eating a spoonful of sugar syrup. The TQ is bitter, grainy, the Ghanese who can afford it won't touch the stuff by Hershey, Cadbury and Nestles, they claim it has the consistency of library paste.

But that chocolate with some Ogoglo, (a popular African distilled spirit) ... and then some of this stuff ...

501129066_ScreenShot2021-05-04at1_19_58PM.png.3f2502605afdee60a01fd22022e07bf4.png

It's called La Paix, Congnons - Moussos. The taste is indescribable, there is nothing in Western culture like it, but the Ghanese men guzzle the stuff, it's supposedly a kind of male elixer. It tastes like bitter root with the consistency of Milk of Magnesia and the texture of beach sand.

So you ingest a good bit of these three things because you want to be a good guest, and your co-workers are friendly, and then you notice that the room has turned pink, eight hours have passed, and a young woman named Fatima has apparently taught you to dance.
