Escape Expedition 14.5 sailboats

Recommended Posts

@bluelaser2 has bigged his up a lot. Check his post history.

I've got one and like it. I haven't fully got a handle on its downwind manners in a heavier air, it seems a little different than your normal unarig.

The furler is plastic, the races in mine are galled up so it doesn't turn nice. Sometimes have to go forward and help it start turning. Catalina direct has a new metal furler but it is like $800 and may not fit.

Not much to tweak so is a little boring in some ways but easy to get your head out of the boat.

Changed my 3:1 center sheeting to bridle, quick and dirty with knots to prove it would work. Need to do proper spliced split tail. Took out the thwart which hinders getting forward upwind. Need to add Laser2 style hiking straps and move the forwar mainsheet blocks to just behind the dagger.

When you move the sheet block forward on the boom, add a sailcloth sleeve to keep the sheet from looping down and snagging you around the neck... or just taking off your hat...

I've always thought this rig showed more promise but needed some development. Wihs I could find one of these.
