The Laser is now called the ILCA. (For a succinct explanation read this: http://www.nzlaser.org/content/why-laser-has-been-renamed-ilca#attachments)

There are now new builders who are building in earnest - new boats by Devoti and Ovington can be seen at championships in Europe. Here are links to their sites:

There are other builders in Australia, Thailand, China who I'm fairly sure intend to supply Europe if they aren't already.

Where in Europe are you intending to buy?

Sorry you can't find any new Lasers where you live.

You might want to consider buying RS Aeros instead. The RS Aero, from RS Sailing, is a much more modern boat, and it beat the Laser and two other boats in the recent evaluation trials for singlehanded boats in the Olympics.

Here is an interactive map showing worldwide location of RS Sailing dealers.

Be careful with the above data.

The RS Aero is an emerging class, and while they may look good on paper, they are thin on the ground in some places, including Europe. Most countries have fewer the 100 boats, and according to the 2020 class report, only 5 countries in the world had more than 100 registered boats racing.

If your intention is to partake in strong fleet racing, the location of dealers does not necessarily mean that there is a fleet. For example there is a dealer in New Zealand, I'm only aware of two being raced. (I understand there have been about 15 in NZ for several years, with fewer than 10 sales ever (for all of NZ) and no active fleet.)

There are fewer than 5000 RS Aeros built ever in the world. I suppose you could build your own fleet. (By all accounts, RS is a reliable seller of boats - and the Aero has some very enthusiastic sailors.)

There are a ton of emerging classes, some better than others, and even more enthusiastic people promoting them (Like Tillerman above).

Cool.

Which country are you in? (...and I'll try and figure out who your local ILCA (Laser) dealer is).

It matters not whether accounts are fake or not, real people are behind them. As for whether or not this is fishing for a response, people far more important than Tillerman, Wess or I are reading them. People like the person who sent me a personal message, or others who are a little new to forums, new to a class, or new to sailing.

Well done!

These three responses, no doubt all done in the name of 'fun', illustrate the insidiously manipulative nature of some who post - and how one needs to be wary of negative, destructive individuals.

The statement following statement is an example of what I am talking about:
"Join The Laser Class.  Its for grass roots Laser sailors.

ILCA is a rip-off that is by elites for elites and ripping off grass roots sailors on every piece of gear they buy.

Say no to ILCA.  Say yes to The Laser Class!"

It contains falsehoods, and attempts to be destructive.

And Tillerman, in his quest to promote the Aero ohead of the Laser/ILCA, appears to the take the approach that the enemy of my enemy is my friend.

My club has four Lasers, I do the maintenance. All have standard and radial rig+one 4.7, (we'll add another next season). All are XD.

I have not found them the best club boats. It's very easy for users to re-rig them in all sorts of creative ways causing difficulties for the next user.

I have tried to restrict the "choices" made by users which takes them slightly out of class but makes everyone's life a bit easier.

Unless you really must have Laser/ILCA I would use something else. We only have the Lasers because we were given them and they have been upgraded since then.
