Velvet drive transmission fluid

Recommended Posts

Delivering a boat with a velvet drive transmission. Want to make sure all is on the up and up before a big motor. I’d like to change the fluid. What does it take? I don’t have a lot of bandwidth in the Marina I’m stopped at, so searching is SLOW. Thanks!

Try to stick a couple oil pads under the coupling if you can.  The red dye in the transmission fluid will show up pretty easy if it's leaking out shaft seal. If it's a cooler leak you should see milky color in the oil, not always but likely.  Not ideal but if you can identify where it's going and the amount does not change, just try to contain leaked oil so it doesn't go over and bring plenty with you.
