Headsail pennant-halyard wrap prevention-head or tack

Recommended Posts

Catalina 27, Hood 705 furler. Need about a foot additional length to get swivel high enough on foil. Add it at the tack or head? And why? Leaning towards head.

Quick and dirty length & function check, tied double braid at tack but maybe this raises CE enough to cause more heel?

Planning to splice something of Amsteel for more permanent use, so any tips there be welcome also.

At the head, of course. Very common for short-hoist headsails to eliminate halyaed wrap. Normally it is not a pennant but an extension of the luff tape because the pennant itself could wrap. (?? Might depend on brand) Not as big a disaster as a halyard wrap, but not shipshape either. Could sew a slug to the upper end of the pennant, I suppose.

I would put it at the head. Is there a halyard restrainer installed? The mast head geometry of a Cat 27 almost guarantees a halyard wrap issue without a halyard restrainer.
