As a married owner who grew up in a rural area, I've finally figured out that with boats, women and horses, it makes more sense for most people to ride other people's.  And if you have to whip out your wallet to make it happen, it's better to charter than to own.  

And that IC 37 is a rich guy boat. Nothing against rich guys - they make it so my sailmaker doesn't have to rely on my cheap ass to pay for his kids' college, and places like NYYC have done amazing things for sailing.  

But a $340k entry price with a $50k annual sail budget ain't going to "maximize participation" unless you intend to end the sentence with, "of owners and sailors who would otherwise be on something like a TP 52."  Cool boat.  Why's it better than a J/111?

50 seconds/mile in phrf is a huge difference when boats are 1 ft different LOA.  Buying a new boat to race phrf is just inviting the phrf committee to be mean to you.  So the real answer is that it's only better if you are racing one design.

Like suddenly there’s going to be an influx of orders because the sales guys changed?

You see how many Swan 50’s just sailed at the Worlds? Euro money has spoken, and there’s plenty of good fleets for people to pick from, with boats that are either more technical or more civilized than the IC 37.
