badlatitude 4,221
Judge Says O'Keefe's Project Veritas Is 'Political Spying' A federal judge has dealt conservative figure James O’Keefe a legal blow, ruling that his group’s undercover operations against a Democratic consulting firm can fairly be described at an upcoming million-dollar trial as “political spying.” Making matters worse for the right-wing star, the judge cited O’Keefe’s own book as evidence against him. In 2016, Allison Maass, an operative for O’Keefe’s Project Veritas group, took an internship at Democratic firm Democracy Partners under a fake name. While staffers at the firm thought Maass was working to elect Democrats in the 2016 campaign, she was secretly recording them and relaying undercover video and notes on the group to Project Veritas. Project Veritas eventually released the video, prompting Democracy Partners founder Robert Creamer to “step back” from the Hillary Clinton campaign. Creamer and Democracy Partners sued Project Veritas in 2017 over the sting. Now, with the trial set for December, O’Keefe’s lawyers wanted to preemptively prevent the plaintiffs’ lawyers from describing Project Veritas’s work in court as “political spying.” In an Oct. 14 court opinion, though, U.S. District Court Judge Paul L. Friedman ruled that it’s reasonable to describe O’Keefe’s group’s actions in that way. https://www.thedailybeast.com/judge-rules-james-okeefes-project-veritas-is-political-spying?ref=home

That said, I have seen a few minutes of his stuff. Interesting, to say the least. Unless he is vastly altering the materials he films/collects I would welcome many more on such a mission. That is, one that sheds light on the inner workings of our political elite and their parties. Now if PV and O'Keefe are full of it, making huge alterations to twist the story, then yea, shut him down, too much misinformation floating about. But if he and those like him, working BOTH sides of the street can help us better understand the nonsense that goes on in the shadows of politics, then what we really need is far, far more of people willing to get the truth out there so We the People go in with eyes wide open regarding our political overlords. Our media sucks. They are dependent on access to politicians and as such write or produce favorable reporting consistent with their own leanings. Thus they ensure access....... yea that will work! The free press has failed in their role as independent reporters. Last thought, if O'Keefe is treated as a party to a political party, then should not that apply to all media platforms? Of course it should and the same rules that apply to PV need to apply to Fox, OAN, Cnn, MSNBC, ABC, CBS, NBC and all those who hang a shingle as an independent and trustworthy news outlet. A deceptive video released on Sunday by the conservative activist James O’Keefe, which claimed through unidentified sources and with no verifiable evidence that Representative Ilhan Omar’s campaign had collected ballots illegally, was probably part of a coordinated disinformation effort, according to researchers at Stanford University and the University of Washington. Mr. O’Keefe and his group, Project Veritas, appear to have made an abrupt decision to release the video sooner than planned after The New York Times published a sweeping investigation of President Trump’s taxes, the researchers said. They also noted that the timing and metadata of a Twitter post in which Mr. Trump’s son shared the video suggested that he might have known about it in advance. Project Veritas had hyped the video on social media for several days before publishing it. In posts amplified by other prominent conservative accounts, Mr. O’Keefe teased what he said was evidence of voter fraud, and urged people to sign up at “ballot-harvesting.com” to receive the supposed evidence when it came out. (None of the material in the video actually proved voter fraud.) Mr. O’Keefe’s promotional posts had said the video would be released on Monday, but Project Veritas released it on Sunday instead, a few hours after the publication of The Times’s investigation. The researchers concluded that this timing was unlikely to be a coincidence “given the huge marketing about a 9/28 release date,” they wrote in an analysis that Alex Stamos, who led the research team at the Stanford Internet Observatory, shared with The Times. “It’s a great example of what a coordinated disinformation campaign looks like: pre-seeding the ground and then simultaneously hitting from a bunch of different accounts at once,” Mr. Stamos said. Many of the same accounts that had shared promotional tweets also shared the video as soon as it was released, moving it quickly into Twitter’s trending topics alongside The Times’s tax investigation. He's a clown and a liar, and has no credibility, except with right wing dipshits who lap his garbage up faster than even what Putin puts out there. Like ANYONE forgot this: What O'Keefe thought would go down once he got Boudreau aboard the SS Douchebag is pretty unclear, but what is clear is that it was somehow sexual and very, very ridiculous. CNN got their hands on a copy of O'Keefe's master plan, dubbed "CNN Caper" by O'Keefe and his cohorts, who are apparently a bunch of old-timey British detectives. List of supplies for the mission include "fuzzy handcuffs", "condom jar", Alicia Keys music (Marvin Gaye being "too cliché" for this sophisticated project), and an "obvious sex tape machine." The plan also includes a script for the seduction, which anticipates that Boudreau would say things like, "You can't be serious, I'm married," to which O'Keefe would reply, "We have to make the most of the time we're given, and we're being given right now." Looks like someone's seen The Notebook a few too many times. According to the brilliant strategic document, the plan was to embarrass CNN as payback for sending "bubble-headed-bleach-blondes" like Boudreau to "seduce interviewees to get screwed on television." Because, you know, when you're dealing with a woman, blondeness and conventional attractiveness are sure signs she's both a bimbo and a cunning temptress. From what I can gather, it appears that O'Keefe wasn't actually planning to try to have sex with Boudreau on the boat. He thought he'd just play at seducing her in order to create "awkwardness," and that's what was supposed to embarrass Boudreau and CNN. Ah-ha! It's the old "embarrass the lady with condoms and Viagra" plan! Works every time! Except, of course, when it backfires and you get a bunch of gooey embarrassment all over yourself.
