Bob Perry 1,334
Today will be the 5th presentation in the Excellence in Yacht Design series being hosted by my fan club on Facebook. Today's guest will be Ron Holland. The presentation begins at noon Pacific Standard Time. I suspect it will go for 2 hours. The presentation will be available on Youtube later if you cannot see it live on the fan club page. To see the presentation live you will have to join my fan club (no, I did not start my own fan club) and this requires you take a one question test. But I don't think that will be difficult for SA'ers. This series has been a real kick in the pants and a unique way to get a close look at the designers working today I think exemplify excellence. Questions from the audience are encouraged. The Charley Morgan presentation was amazing. He's 92 years old and spoke for three hours. To date we have had: Chuck Paine, Charley Morgan, Rob Ball and Yves-Marie Tanton. The format is very informal and presenters seem happy to tell stories from their careers that they would not usually tell to an in person yacht club group. These have been a lot of fun. I make a brief introduction then I step aside and let the guest take over the fan club for as long as they like. Charley Morgan went for over 3 hours! 2 hours seems more typical. Upcoming guests scheduled will include Julian Everett, Kevin Dybley, Bruce King and one mystery guess.
BayRacer 79
Watched the one with Rob Ball, after the fact. Don't do Facebook. Have a C&C. Interesting to hear some of the back stories. Thanks for organizing and hosting.

Bob Perry 1,334
It was a very interesting presentation. Sorry about the "surprise guests" but Joe, our IT guy ironed that out pretty quickly. Ron was fabulous and spoke for 2 hours with lots of stories that did not make it into his book. Next up is UK designer, Julian Everett. You knw Julian, he's the guy who designed the Thule car top carriers that look kind of like bobsleds. He also has done a lot of IOR boats and one design race boats. I'll post a notice when we get closer.

Bob Perry 1,334
Snags: About 5 minutes into Ron's talk our monitor screens went blank and then we were treated to about a minute, maybe two minutes of porn including some pubescent kid porn. Joe our IT guy shut the ZOOM meeting down and rebooted it fixed so that could not happen again. It was a real WTF? moment. Now Joe has to edit the recorded meeting to eliminate that unfortunate interlude. But when that is done it will be up on Youtube and I will certainly let you know how to access the file. Thanks for your interest. I'll post notice for future presentations. The Bruce King session should be very good. I have a couple more surprises.

PaulK 597
The stories from Charlie Morgan and Yves-Marie Tanton are great. The details about Y-M in the snow, and having to get an advance on his first week's salary, really add definition to his character. When are we going to have a Bob Perry interview to match these others?? Who will run THAT ?

Bob Perry 1,334
Paul: I came up with the idea for the series one morning when I was thinking my fan club needed a shot in the arm. It was getting boring. The whole idea was to take me out of the picture for a while and let other designers strut their stuff. At this point the series is going so well I think it would be tacky or at the least inappropriate for me to insert myself into the group. It's really all about the designers I think are doing great work and just maybe not getting their fair share of exposure. I get more than enough attention on the fan club and I am very grateful to the young lady who started it. I thought it was a joke when I found it.

The ages of the children and the explicit graphic nature were, at the very least, illegal at the Federal and State level. If, for example, any part of that interruption were cached on ones computer and that computer was forensically analyzed, a person who is convicted of possessing child pornography can be sentenced up to 10 years in prison or up to 20 years in prison if the minor depicted in the image is under the age of twelve. That, besides it being morally reprehensible.

Bob Perry 1,334
This Friday morning at 8 am PST the fan club will host the UK designer Julian Everett for an Excellence in Yacht Design Zoom presentation. Julian was the editor of SEAHORSE magazine for many years. He also designed the THULE car top carriers. His design work covers the IOR from beginning to end and in fact with the renewed interest in the IOR level classes, he is still doing IOR work. His "sport boat" WAVE TRAIN designed over 35 years ago is still racing and was well ahead of it's time. Name any trend that swept through the IOR fleet and Julian would have tried it and often with great success. Julian has also been very active in smaller, under 30' LOA, one design family racing classes. He also has a series of sexy looking powerboats being built in the Middle East. We will add this meeting to our collection of other "Excellence" videos on Youtube if you can't see it live. But if you do see it live you will have the chance to ask Julian questions.
