Bike hydrofoil

Cruising at 8 knots is like riding a bike at 15, with about 6 mile range. Dock starts are manageable but I doubt deep water starts are so you need a chase boat in most conditions

That sort of really sucks!  I wouldn't even consider one if deep water starts were not possible or at least learnable.

These are pretty cool, but if you want a fun motorized hydrofoil, take a look at something like a Lift or Fliteboard hydrofoil.  Waaaaaay faster, easier to water start, and you can get a folding prop and ride waves without needing any power at all. :)

Nah thats not true... my neighbor has one and the water starts are tricky but not impossible. It looks pretty wild though to see this entire unit submerged and then rise from the water like some leviathan. Takes balance tho.

Yes it sinks.

It has battery assist like an e-bike. At high levels of assist it doesn't look too hard.

Constructed of carbon fiber and aluminum, the 64-pound bike is both easy to carry and buoyant enough for a 220-pound rider to remain afloat when stopped in deep water.

What happens when I stop pedalling?

The bike floats on its side when stationary. When you stop pedalling you will slowly sink down into the water. Buoyancy prevents the bike from sinking when you stop pedalling. Master the remounting technique to perform a “submerged launch” to get foiling again from deep water.

So sinks.. but provides flotation.... and allow one to do a "submerged launch"....

I do like the looks and ( not price from: €10.400 ) of this:  https://eu.fliteboard.com/

Vancouver bike commute today.  The video is funny

considering that nothing on a bicycle is actually waterproof and the whole drivetrain, bearings, chain steering is all corrodible, this guy is a lunatic. I got SO TIRED of tearing down my bike after coming home each day of riding in winter salt. I finally gave that up. If you don't tear it down it is fucked.

Aw, come on! I commute by bike and one set of chain+sprockets lasts about one winter. (We have very little little salting over here, admittedly.)
