I would walk the entitled fuckwit down to Bondi beach with a cattle prod and tell him to swim home.

Tennis is about as interesting to watch as paint drying, grass growing, sailing, basketball and Golf.

Novak Djokovic has landed in Melbourne but is still awaiting permission to enter the country to compete at the Australian Open after it emerged that his team had applied for a visa that does not allow for medical exemptions.

The visa of Novak Djokovic has been cancelled by Australian Border Force.

The Serbian has been detained at Melbourne Airport this morning for more than seven hours and is now facing the prospect of being asked to board a plane and leave Australia.

Good decision to deny entry. Well done ABF.

It should never have come to this.  Granting the visa was a mistake in the first place and offensive to most Australians.  The political cowardice and blame shifting around that was embarrassing, and now this!  Scomo seems determined to start a war as his legacy. JFC!

ROFL!

Lock that entitled dipshit and his entourage down for at least two weeks of quarantine on his own dollar. If the lot happens to test negative after that, send them home (wherever that may be) on his own dollar. Then send a bill.

I have exactly zero sympathy for arseholes like him, regardless of their sport, be it tennis, cricket, football, soccer or fucking sailing.

Exactly

It should have panned out one of two ways,

(1) no visa in the first place or

(2) a border exemption for major event. Given that the premiers throughout the border closure period have been more than happy to allow movie stars and sportsmen come and go, he should have been given an exemption and be in hotel quarantine for the next 2 weeks.

Now we just look stupid again on the international stage.

Dan should have worked with the Feds to have the event exemption in place and Scomo should never have allowed/encouraged/ordered this cowardly flipflop.

What evidence have you seen to determine that?

No evidence has been supplied, that is the issue.

From various news reports I've seen, ND supplied information to a board that is self admittedly not an investigation body. Taking this information on face value, a visa was granted.

When he presented at immigration in Melbourne airport arrivals, the information given was scrutinised and no proof could be produced as to the truth of the information for what ever reason.

As the information used to obtain the visa couldn't be verified the visa was cancelled.

This process is the same for countries all over the world. Visas are issued and when questioned on arrival the visa can be cancelled.

The onus in not on the immigration services/ Boarder security to disprove information, the onus is on the traveler to prove their claims.

The rate of legitimate medical exemption is 1 to 5 in 100,000. These clowns that comprise the medical blind assessment board have given out 6 exemptions to Australian Open competitors. Men’s and women’s draws have 128 qualifying draw, 128 main draw with some overlap for doubles specialists etc.

The optics are egregious, and as for Douchevic, karma’s a bitch.

Fuck him and fuck the tennis.

I think if he qualifies for an exemption he should get it. I think the reasons should be made public.

If he has committed fraud in his visa application he should be prosecuted

If he does get to play I hope he pulls a hammy on his first shot and requires surgery.

I hope it's you doing the cutting.

Is that clear enough?

PS. I could be equally satisfied if he fell over in the shower and got impaled by a tennis racquet. Especially if the racquet was so far up as to be unrecoverable.

Novak Djokovic faces the risk of being barred from re-entering Australia for three years if his bid to overturn his cancelled visa fails.

Djokovic was transported to a Melbourne hotel earlier today and could be sent back to Serbia within hours unless his lawyers can stop the deportation.

Djokovic case to go to full hearing on Monday

Ok so with that, we have some clarity on where things go from here. Both parties agreed to an interim injunction that prevents Djokovic from being removed from Australia until then.

With the tournament 10 days away, both parties discussed the timing and the need to have a judgement handed down soon, although the court has yet to see all the submissions, with the judge urging the parties to submit them in a timely manner.

The matter is now listed for hearing at 10am on Monday.

I think it's a tennis Australia bungle.

They seem to think that having CV in the last 6 months will give you an exemption and advised N of that.

So. N puts his hand up and says YUP.i had it!!

Border Force has said...BUT that's no all!!! you need 2 vaxes to get a visa regardless of your infection status.

Government sources say Djokovic handed Border Force officials a medical exemption on Tennis Australia letterhead that was signed by the organisation's chief medical officer, but this was rejected.

In November, Health Minister Greg Hunt wrote to Tennis Australia CEO Craig Tiley warning that players who sought to enter the country would not be granted vaccine exemptions if they had recently contracted COVID-19.

"The Australian Border Force has advised that people must be fully vaccinated, as defined by the ATAGI, to gain quarantine-free entry into Australia," Mr Hunt wrote on November 29.

"I can confirm that people who contracted COVID-19 within the past six months and seek to enter Australia from overseas, and have not received two doses of a Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA)-approved or TGA-recognised vaccine (or one dose of the Johnson and Johnson COVID-19 vaccine), are not considered fully vaccinated".

As usual, Meli want's to blame everyone except he beloved Labour state government. Now it's TA

Ms Allan confirmed that Mr Tiley and Tennis Australia did not pass this advice onto the Victorian government.

“I’m advised that the Victorian government, or members of the Victorian government, hadn’t seen that correspondence,” she said. “And you’d expect that we wouldn’t necessarily see that because it was correspondence between the Commonwealth government and Tennis Australia.”

The Acting Premier said the medical exemption provided to Djokovic by an independent panel, set up by the Victorian health department, gave him permission to play in the Australian Open once he was in Victoria. However, that permit would only have come into effect once Djokovic arrived in the country.

“You can only participate in the tournament if you’ve been granted the appropriate visa, and that’s very much a matter for the Commonwealth government,” she said.

The State Government & Health Department should be communicating with Canberra and not relying on a third party to know the rules.

Just love the response from the ABF representative just now on the news regarding Jokovic’s “imprisonment”. To paraphrase:

“He’s  not a prisoner. He is free to leave (Australia) any time he likes. In fact ABF will help to facilitate his departure if he would like.”
