FEB 16 DRAGON FLIES I MAKE A DRAGON MASK AND PUT IT ON AND SEE RAINBOWS! 15 FOOT MARLIN CHASE MY 4 FOOT MAHI! I TOOK MY FORESAIL DOWN FOR REPAIR FOR THE FIST TIME IN 6 MONTHS VOID HO! VOID HO! LAND HO? NOO!!!

He makes a dragon mask, puts it on and sees rainbows. I guess he didn't get the memo about the brown acid.

You really can't make this shit up.

EDIT - What's the deal with "FIST time in 6 months"?

Deadbeat's written up in fukin elitist Cruising World, blue color Sail & around the world- now even the New Yorker- and guess what? You're not. Just sayin'. Deadbeat's kids (two) are all doing fine.

Do you sailing scallywags on SA know where all your children are?

Based only on the amount of drinking referenced here, the number of ports of call- seaside bars- nights spent and not well recalled, and allowing for typical exaggeration: I'd wager Dogzilla's wing that there's a bunch of crazy fake sailing anarchists' chilren wandering around out there, without a dollar of support from the sperm donor drunken fathers who rant on here without much of anything to say.

can't say that ain't possible.

In the long run Reids accomplishments will be viewed as on a par with these great record holders. And will receive just about as much press as they each did.

Julia Buttterfly Hill 738 day long tree sitting

Helen Skelton Longest solo kayak voyage.

Ryan Galbraith and Chris Stinson. Longest Mini Bike voyage.

Nigel Manson Most golf balls hit in 12 hours (7,721)

To be placed in the history books with record setters such as these will be the culmination of a lifetime of work. How proud he will be. Personally I place Reid between the kayak and the mini bike guys.

I thought some prankster wrote that and posted it on the 1000 day site.

Brain spill in aisle 3.

Can't believe he had a foresail up. Or is this supposed to make the world think he was sailing rather than drifting?

Deadbeat's written up

Ducky, even us anarchists are surprised Reid's crazy 'record' received not one word of press.

if you go back a page or two and re-listen to Soanya's interview with Grampa you'll notice they admit how enormously upset and baffled all the hovians are by the media's complete lack of interest in Reid's 'mission'.

Gramps, (as usual), misses all cues from S to slide over this 'travesty' and harps on his incredulity ad nauseum, actually making it the embarrassing prepondering theme of the entire interview!

your comments pointing out the feeble press he has received are only highlighting the obvious! no one cares!

a blurb in the New Yorker satirizing Reid's voyage

a podcast on a hippie holistic site with a heart-wrenching soundtrack of Reid's squalling son reminding us he is fatherless

a handful of unread blogs by hovian pals

an internet press release without a single comment of interest on any website posted

MC made a HUGE error (probably spurred on by Reid) to push for articles before the 1000th day Mission Accomplished! in an attempt to build interest for the BIG announcement.

FAIL!

the BIG DAY came and went without a pebble's ripple!

not even Yahoo Weird News! (who headlined the departure) could give a damn.

anyone can get into Cruising World, Ducky. its not the sailing holy grail.

basically, its a magazine for novices and dreamers with a few onboard recipes tossed in.

i don't know any sailor who would pay 5? bucks to buy an issue.

it is not elitist, it is a dinosaur dying a slow and reluctant death read by noone but convicts and sailors in the dentist's waiting room.

Reid has 2 media whore buddies who have stuck with him, Morgan and Sloan..McCormick was uninformed and sandbagged and is basically a douchebag.

they have dredged up Reid's sad sack story as many times as they can in their little nautical cubbyholes; its over.

i would guess Reid will get a little photo of his ragamuffin 'flotilla' and a paragraph when he returns to NYC and that's it.

here i believe are some of the reasons the press will not cover 1000th day Mission Accomplished!

Reid's seedy past and his attempts to sanitize his personal history.

the claims he is a lovely guy with a 'colorful' past are false.

he is a felon and convict with time in the pen and a deadbeat dad who would not pay state assisted child support until forced because of public exposure.

his 'hand built' boat must have been constructed with funds from smuggling drugs as Reid had no legitimate income.

he has had 3 wives who have divorced him and impregnated a 23 year old woman he 'abandoned' in Australia without any financial support. Soanya had to accept 'charitable' donations for a medical exam, housing and transport back to her family who have absorbed all her and her child's expenses since, making that child number 2 that Reid has fathered without supporting financially.

Impregnating Soanya spotlights the stupidity and lack of credibility of this 'mission'.

most people are appaulled that a 55 year old man would take a 23 year old woman and impregnate her at sea where no prenatal care was possible for 4 plus months, put her and the unborn's life in jeopordy while she was 'nauseous' and cabin bound by her own admission for more than 100 days.

the pregnancy was so irresponsible and dangerous it galls anyone with common sense.

a child who has never met his father

this aspect of the story is not received sympathetically by women. Darshen will be almost out of diapers by the time Reid returns. now that the 'mission' has been 'accomplished' there is no reason Reid could not sail forthwith to a harbour, reunite with his family and take on financial responsibility and fatherly duties. women expect fathers to crow about their son, express deep concern for their future and sacrifice everything for their well-being. Reid has devoted less than six sentences to his son in all his blog blatherings, a clear sign of his disinterest and a revealing indicator of his displeasure when anyone else usurps the center of attention.

crazy blog entries exhibiting bad art, narcisism and sociopathy with overtones of messiah complex.

no one can make heads nor tales of a madman's ravings. his 'art' is awful.

Reid sociopathy is enormous, his mimicry of compassion shreiks inauthenticity..he admits he wants no news of the world 'to distract him', he exhibits no interest in others, even his own family who he says will wait while he 'benefits mankind'.

his voyage is pointless

Reid can not claim one redeeming aspect of 1000 days non-stop at Sea, The Mars Ocean Oddysea, The Love Voyage..whatever moniker he slaps on it.

there are no educative, scientific, or humanistic lessons to be learned from a man who drifts aimlessly at sea with his tattered sails furled, spending his time glorifying himself and cutting up magazine pages and shitting on them.

the press does not like to be lied to

Reid had so many press releases of departure it was a standing joke among reporters.

the latest vid of the AP interview could not illustrate Reid's desperation for fame any more forcefully. the photographer and reporter are clearly STRUGGLING TO ESCAPE his non-stop blathering...they cut him off mid-sentence to make their relieved get away!

Soanya has truly pissed off the media who portrayed her sympathetically as a lady in distress with chronic seasickness, only to find they'd been duped when a baby popped out 5 months later.

pitiful begging for more funds

having BabyMomma beg for money is shameless and distasteful.

the public is averting their eyes from this trainwreck and wondering why the mother can not work and why the father does not return to land and take care of bidness!

MC has totally bungled Reid's publicity from the very start.

he is a very unsympathetic public figure now..that could have been avoided if Reid used candor, humility and honesty rather than consistently and hopelessly attempting to whitewash and deify himself.

Excellent summary, Pip!!

Another area that Reid's accomplishment has had no reaction is with his sponsors.

I actually went and looked at each of the 1000days sponsors websites after the 1000 day record, and each sponsor did not acknowledge or reference Reid's accomplishment. Even after doing searches within those sponsor websites the result was the same.

You would think that in these economic times that if any business thought that celebrating Reid's accomplishment was good for business and associate themselves with Reid's success.

Between the media & Reid's sponsors it seems the consensus is unanimous.

Amazingly, or perhaps not so amazingly, Doyle's City Island loft proudly features Weid in the news section of their web site. But it's only a report from day 68 nothing following day 1000. Wonder if they took a write off for their donation to the non nonprofit.

It took 2 1/2 years into the "mission" for sponsor's logos to even appear on the 1000 Days website. After babbling on about the happy sprouts, yoga, cheese. wet socks, clogged toilets, more sprouts, fids, sunny days and starry nights ... blah blah blah... Weed and Soy finally publicly thanked Doyle on Day 68. There was a sudden few days' flurry of thanks to sponsors, family, and friends, that looked like somebody tapped them on the shoulder and pointed out their rude omissions.

I will say there needs to be more updates on his site. He needs to get the machine turning and to do that we need updates.

Nag dabbit slightly salty. You had to resurrect this dead thread from the middle of page 3.

If you really wanted to help Reid you would just go and hang out on the 1000daze website and hit the paypal link on a daily basis, but no, you'd rather be the failed counterpoint in attempt to distract from all of Reid's shortcomings but in actuality are the one who maintains the reaction that most people consider Reid a human failure despite his drifting achievement.

With all the significant sailing achievements being attained in the world I'm bewildered that anyone is wasting their time with the "nothing new to report" reports about Reid's reluctant completion of his midsadventure to be responsible to his (now toddler) son and ex-concubine.

For each day you remind us of Reid's bizzare endevour is just another day of Reid's conspicuous absence from his real responsibilies all of which Reid has proven over his entire life he never really intended to oblige.

Meanwhile there are people elsewhere doing great things that you're unaware due to your obsession with your myopic praise of someone who contributes nothing to anybody but himself.

Since someone else bumped this, I have to ask, the dude has had 1000+ days to sail and has managed on circumnavigation? Assuming that he took a whole year to complete the circuit, what the fuck has he been doing for the following two years? Floating around off of Africa? It looks like he's been drawing pictures on the map when you look at the Google earth thing. Reading the original mission statement, I can't figure out how any of what he has done has actually achieved anything other than wasting other people's money, getting a woman pregnant, disposing of a block of parmesan, and creating some first rate, fourth grade refrigerator art. It seems like slightly salty and justducky are the two proponents so please, explain this to me as it seems he has deviated from his original plan.

Mike:

At the risk of once again being accused of just not getting the wonderful sense of humor and sarcasm here, I must say that continually sailing on a 70' boat you built yourself (with family and friends) for one thousand plus days in what will be a virtual single singlehanded circumnavigation when done-- may be strange and unusual although it is indeed a something and a feat of endurance, tenacity and deprivation, that only depraved bastards like regatta slutpuppy and his mongrel crew wouldn't be able to recognize as such. And maybe now also you, for having hung out here among the retarded rabble so long, your synaptic function also derives it's stimulus from a fake anarchic way of seeing things. The Dalai Lama stands way above and beyond a non-scurvy sailor who stretches the truth to fit his ends,

and even the most sordid of kool aid drinkers on the other side would ne'er dare to compare the saintly religious leader of the world's tibetan buddhists, that wonderful religion and man of great compassion, to the simple sailor stowe, who rides to his own rogue waves on and on and on and on....like the man in the New Yorker said- and i paraphrase-: the energizer bunny of explorers."

A legion JustSuckyDucky?

WHat LEGION? 70 people near MC showed up to celibate - pun intended - 1000 days? That's it???

Definition of Legion - Note OnlyDucky made it singular instead of plural as in "Legions."

1. The major unit of the Roman army consisting of 3,000 to 6,000 infantry troops and 100 to 200 cavalry troops.2. A large military unit trained for combat; an army.3. A large number; a multitude.

A few hopeful and adventure loving souls contributed. Some here did their very best to scuttle the voyage, pretending they were acting in the elitist certainty of knowing what's better for others to think, believe and do. In reality, this underfunded barebones spartan experiment in self deprivation for years, will remain on the fringe and in the annals of strange voyages into unknown territory. Not the most dangerous or exciting, noteworthy nor accomplished- yet unique in it's inestimable flavor for the absurd, and certainly for arousing the passions of people all over the planet, J.

Whether they be blue water sailors and passagemakers, sit at home wannabees, or simply thrilled to vicariously join the ride of a man at sea for so long: the passionate followers (and you here on this thread do certainly count as being under this label as some of the most ardent of his followers by definition) his outrageous claims, self promotion, and long distance/time voyage around the planet have proven to catch the fancy of all persuasions and walks of life.

If i am at the club lady pipsqueaker, rest assured my stern is facing the other way, looking at the sailing vessel on the water, and feeling a longing for being there and not at some white linen table clothed seltzer water contrived setting amid the delicacies of landlubbing at its finest.

70 was just more Ducky spin. One of the articles said 40 gathered. All I know is that only about 5 or 6 applauded Yuko, and one of those was Redboat heard from afar.

Perhaps the Stowe supporters should not claim sailing records for Soanya then, or promote her as a great female sailor. If I wanted to singlehand for an extended period, I would choose a vessel more appropriate to the task that was in seaworthy condition and setup for single handed sailing. I would not entertain drifting aimlessly for extended periods, to me that is utterly pointless. Your mileage may vary. I will be having beers later, but it is 8:40 A.M..

This was his original plan. Some foolish idiot wrote in one of his publicity pamphlets years before he left that he planned four circumnavigations. Yeah, if he had a spaceship he may have attempted that. As it is, he has one extremely heavy and slow 60+ton schooner and one circumnavigation seems pretty much according to plan and not wild expectations. Art on the water. Sail a little sail alot drift a little drift a lot. The 1,000 days was/is the thing/ once around enough. It is not a racing boat left on auto to go at high speed around the globe multiple times. Not a plastic bottle boat. Not even wood. It is heavy man, slooooow n heavy and will make it all the way back home again.

And no, to the best of my knowledge although I have no contact with him whatsoever, he has not completely disposed of the block of cheese. It was a very big block. When he comes back, ask him if you can see what's left and have a piece. He's very giving.

He's very giving.

single singlehanded circumnavigation when done-- may be strange and unusual although it is indeed a something and a feat of endurance, tenacity and deprivation, that only depraved bastards like regatta slutpuppy and his mongrel crew wouldn't be able to recognize as such. And maybe now also you, for having hung out here among the retarded rabble so long, your synaptic function

No doubt ... he has a lot in common with the Buddhist dudes though. Yes, he's accomplishing something by surviving, but it would be a lot easier to survive on land.

His whole M.O. is that he does what he does without significantly altering things around him, he's like the Dalai Lama in this respect. He's neither building homes, nor blowing up homes. He's neither building roads nor shelling roads. He's neither building a corporation nor staging a hostile takeover of a corporation.

Doing nothing is tough, and doing nothing while keeping the attention of thousands is even tougher.

Whaa? Dude, Sailing Anarchy is the best way I have found to instantly enter the Dalai Lama's headspace.

I turn off the drill press, and the seaming machine and the power supplies and the test equipment, and then I sit down in a chair, type "sailinganarchy" and within seconds I am immediately in a virtual space with a few hundred other people who are doing absolutely nothing.

And then I come to the 1000 Day thread and we pay homage to a guy who has made the art of doing nothing a masterpiece.

A bulk carrier the Berge Pacific just passed within sixty miles of our favorite unit.

Has anyone notice that she seems to have made a break out to the west. Headed for the current off the coast of Brazil I suggest. Reading Joshua Slocom and he says there is a 40 mile a day push from the current along there. Should help our unit make it home in time for the parade. B)B)

I have tried to be the Dalai Lama for a day, and on that day I stay away from SailingAnarchy.

Um, on the Dalai Lama thing: Whatever. If you want to emulate the Dalai Lama, try coming here and being nice for one day.

On the 1000 days thing: I'll believe the "foolish idiot" stuff when they post something on the website that say "our plan all along was to slowly go around the world once and then bob aimlessly in the ocean" on his website and name the name of the alleged foolish idiot. In the mean time, that stands as one of the goals. What about all of the collecting data for NASA stuff? Where did that go?

On the cheese: If I need parmesan, I can go get some at the store. I prefer my cheese not to have been drifting about in a barnacle farm for 3 years, thanks.

And maybe I'm just catching up now but what's all this stuff about owing back child support? Has that been cleared up? Forgive me if I'm not interested in going back through 1000 pages of this drivel.

Looks like donations to "Reid Debt" may have paid off at least one judgement after the newspapers reported about his non-payment of child support. I wonder when the meter is going to start running with Soanya or if Reid is going to claim Darshen isn't his.

NY bound?

I've been wrong a couple of times when I thought a westerly drift for a couple of days indicated that Weido might be in the grasp of the Trades and slipping out of his eddy. Metocean tracking now indicates a week or so of westerly snailspace movement so Tantra Schooner might be on the move.

If the case, surprised MC wouldn't have issued a press release and had yet another party with lame music. Can they get another band? Sorry Yuko.

Mike, as much as I enjoy reading your unusually intelligent posts that stand out as such among the rousing rabble here, tell me where the fuk there was any boat barely seen among those unusually pretty bikinied babes singing their caribbean hearts out? Nice music, nice vids though- what island was it btw? puerto rico? Just like in three hours of computer generated barely dressed giant blue people of Pandora in Avatar, all the purrfect bodies are puritanically north americanmanly covered up. It would appear that he is headed west so he can head home same direction several days in a row and actually did 78 miles in a day.

Container ship ER London passed within thirty miles.

Interestingly there is Moorings Cat being delivered that also passed close by. Intersting blog by a guy who delivers for a living:

Pretty pathetic that MC can't do any ghost writing while he's in the home stretch of his epic VOYAGE, with his coms out of commission!

But we are not surprised.

I heard of someone wanting to set a new polesitting record, that's looking for donations of sprouts, cheese and a willing concubine.

Any nubile conubial volunteers or donors out there???

Duck, the boat is right there, how did you not see it?

You might have to watch this video about fifty or sixty time like I did, until you can see it. But it's there.

Island ... the vid is Creole, so it would either be Haiti or Martinique or Guadeloupe. I'm pretty sure it's Guadeloupe. The S.V. Hoedown II is visible at about 2:35.

Just read Mark Singer's article about Weido in the New Yorker.

I'm certain E.B. White is cruising around in heaven in one of Joel's designs muttering "who the hell decided to put this rubbish in my rag?" Are there no editorial standards anymore?

Singer goes to the 1000 day love fest, has a couple o' brews, listens to MC and Mr. Explorers Newsletter's tales of adventure on the high seas and then kicks out some fawning prose.

There are a lot of people in the Huntsville area that have moved there from other parts of the country. With the rocket program, aerospace companies and other high tech businesses, a lot of outsiders were recruited.

I lived there for sometime while training at a computer company and a lot of their instructors and programmers were from the notheast region of the country. Others that worked at Redstone and Boeings were true "rocket scientists" and were from all over the country. Nice bunch of people.

I hear Aunt Eunice's isn't around anymore, but that was the bomb. Best sausage biscuits I ever had, and the unwritten rule that whoever got up to grab a cup of coffee from the pot had to serve coffee to the other patrons was classic.

She was a hot shit. First time I was in there she sat down at the table and talked about her mom-n-nem, and how when she was a kid and had to wear shoes for a special occasion, she'd put dirt in them or she could walk "natural like".

Never went to Aunt Eunice's, but usually went to breakfast buffet at the local Shoneys on Sundays. All the locals hung out there. Could not warm up to the grits, but their B&G was the best! And big slabs of bacon and tubs of sausege! Yum!

Of course they seem friendly, with so many physicists. They are one group of people that just won't STFU. I have yet to meet a physicist who can just tell you the time. You ask them what time is it, and they tell you how to build a watch. Great people to have around when you want to know how to build a watch, not so great when you just want to know what time it is.

Sorta loosing interest here with no updates, vids or much movement. MC could keep it a bit more lively with stories of his childhood or something. It'll be nice when he starts sailing back and then MC will have more updates I hope. I don't like the non comunicado, makes me nervous.

So has anyone figured out what "other vesssels" the hovians chose to displayon google earth near the unit?

Today Tramper passed about 100 miles ahead. Depending on the updates it could have been closer.

Tramper is another heavy lift vessel. Apprently these are used to carry big stuff that won't fit inthe hold of other ships and includes offshore oil field equipment. Sure seems like there are a lot of these kinds of boats. Look ugly as sin, wonder how they handle seas, and . . . . . what it rate

What do you think one of those puppies cost to use?

I'm guessing 30K US$ a day, plus lifting/unlifting fees.

What's the schooner Anne worth?

80KUS$? More? Less?

I'm guessing less...

Whoops, Mars 'aint that far after all. Maybe Ried can do another 78 days without stopping.

This is what I told y'all about several months ago, Mars only seems far when your boats are pokey.

Who am I to belief, Weid or Cliff? Tough choice.

Remember Weido has been working with NASA for decades, published articles, etc. If he says it's 1000 days, then it's 1000 days.
