  • Hi Tom,
I recognized your name on an SA thread and thought I'd send a message your way. I sail a few boats (Farr 30) in DP but mostly sail I-14 everywhere else. I heard you're a Plastic mold/injection guy. Looking for someone to machine a Delrin plug that seats into an I14 carbon box boom section I'm building up.
Do you know of any local contacts for something like this? I'm in San Clemente.

    Paul,
A plug would best be cut on a lathe. Filger Manufacturing is the largest machine shop in San Clemente. If Hench Manufacturing is still open, they are probably easier to deal with a one off. My partner works a lathe occasionally. But, he's pretty tied up molding parts.
    Best regards,
    Tom

    It’s a rectangular box section. Roughly 50mm width x 100mm. Still a lathe job?

No that's a mill job. I cut on a CNC mill. But, I'm in the middle of a three mold project at the moment and am tied up for several months. The two shops I referred above do more machine shop jobs.
