Moths did not invent water powered operation of appendages. Its been around for more than 60 years in wind vane mechanical autopilots used in model yachts before RC and then in short handed trans ocean yacht racing, long before electronic autopilots.

The T foil could be built within Beam max. The wand does not violate ACat rules but some believe it violates RRS 52, but if it does so does the rotating mast which they are quite happy with.
"I want to see a demonstration of something that works well that just requires a sensible tweaking of the A class box rule to make it legal."
How about keeping the 750mm rule but allowing wands or other automated mechanical controls. Even if the AC gurus think their system is faster, the moth...
Or if the 1.5 m rule goes they might end up with one central T foil like the Arrow, plus a single wand and capable of windward heal with halve the drag? The possibilities are endless, ACAts may never look the same again.
All I am saying is that if the As really want to make it a foiling class they should allow wands, so that they can use the most successful system for one man sailing. Allowing foiling without wands seems to me like Olympic walking races, try to go fast but do it the hard way. Not that I am...
I may be able to contribute to this home build exercise since over a 6 year peirod I home built a heap of moth foils and eventually gave up and bought a Mach2.
I agree that making a good mold makes better products more easily, but unless you have the design right to start with the effort might...
The A has long been an exquisite single handed cat. If nothing changes it will continue to be so. It will still attract a lot of people because its such a great boat.
If people create another foiling cat which might be faster in some conditions it will take people away from the class, that is...
