Assuming this one is in the Annapolis Area.
Looking good even with the kite not all the way up.
Pin head main and looks to have the Ballenger Alum mast package.
You numbers sound like they are in the range.
Here in Cabrillo the summer winds are gone and we’ve softened our rig to account for this. Current tensions are:
uppers (caps) 20/lowers 25/intermediates 26
Our forestay is currently at 27
In a nutshell, a bit more lower tension then you to counter...
Let’s see…
Phrf SoCal rates that particular C30 at 66/48/48.
Looks like your Zap is rated at
135/135/135
I’d say the price is in line considering that it is still somewhat modern (designed and built in this millennium) and not another 35-40 year old boat you usually see on Craigslist.
This...
Jeannic2 - Forgot to ask, are you using my numbers using a LOOS2 gauge??? Note the numbers will be off if you are using a different gauge other than the one mentioned. Also double check to make sure you are referring to the correct cable size in the chart on the guage.
Let me know what your...
Looks like you have a bit more prebend than needed. The photos may distort the actual.
The distant shot actually looks better. Strive for 2.5 -3” max. Your luff curve in your main determines the pre
Any photos of the mainsail shape?
Are you running the same numbers as me? Headstay length can...
Wife and I decided to Doublehand this one…
30 boats. Start inside LB breakwater with a beat up inside the harbor, then out Angels Gate with a reach to the Oil Islands roughly 10 miles out. Round to port and down to Dana. Course is roughly 40 miles. We just tried to sail in clean air on the beat...
Looks like the boat is already set up. Perfect!
Inside tracks when you still need to point. Outside tracks for when it's fully rippin and bow down for speed.
I’d go Heavy Dacron (with high clew) mainly b/c the #4 jib is a workhorse on my boat since I sail in a predominantly windy area. Although the weight is a small penalty, it serves as a racing jib, doublehanding day sail jib, windy staysail, and sometimes delivery sail. It gets a lot of use along...
The Southern Spars rig likes to be boned on since you don't have a regular backstay. You need to maintain headstay tension with the primary shrouds, mainsheet and top stay runners, especially as the wind strength increases. Like a lot of boats, the hull to deck joint can be compromised if you...
I would not recommend the above settings until you have had the chainplates professionally reinforced. Note those numbers would be for higher breeze while sailing and then you relax the rig again when docked.
What you can do in the meantime would be to start using some runner upwind to help...
The controls are designed to be intuitive to the user and based on crew size (short handed or full crew), racing styles (buoy or coastal) and budget.
Most boats have been upgraded from stock. Nothing wrong with the factory setup however I would at least upgrade the purchase and lines to lower...
The runners control Headstay sag. Start pulling them on upwind when you need to point and/or depower. It also supports the mast tip downwind with the kite. We run a 16:1 with gross tune forward and fine tune aft. For tacks or jibes, pull/release the gross, then adjust the fine. Your sail design...
Pongs-
The boat is never flat in that breeze with only two people. Manageable, yes. I'm guessing 25- 30 degrees of heel.
More importantly, it depends on which mainsail I'm using. In this case it was the heavy Dacron main with smaller head. A disadvantage.
You'd think that the smaller head...
