Revised Paradox - If Dario is right with his new approach, a lot of people are wrong! The main foil looks more like a higher aspect and more canted Flyer II approach with more adjustment of F/A rake. Drag wise it looks slippery. Can't wait to hear how it goes against other boats.
Tom,
Good luck to you and Dario. Looking forward to seeing how the boat goes against the Oz fleet. If possible, could you guys post some photos showing details of your line tails management? I'm trying to clean up my tramp so I am always interested in what others are doing.
Best,
Bob Hodges
Race results will tell you if you are on the right path. Try to find the best benchmark A-Class sailor you can train with to check your progress as you keep developing your boat, rig, and foils. Good luck.
I'll agree the video is interesting but Raphael needs to show up at an event to race and establish whether his foil package and/or platform are truly a step forward in A-Class technology. Anyone can make a video of a single boat sailing and claim whatever speed they want to. A lot of people on...
The current weight limit is producing very strong and reliable platforms that should have 10+ years of sailing life. I do not see any move to change that.
A modern A-Class with any of the current flavors of curved daggerboards (C, J, or S) combined with rudder winglets is a very fun and fast boat to sail in 3-22 knots of wind. 22 knots of wind is our current top limit for racing and some in the class believe it can be increased to 25 knots with...
BACCA will have to submit this rule change proposal for vote at the next IACA AGM at next year's WC in New Zealand. Their proposal must have the support of several MNA's before it can be considered at this meeting. The Technical Committee is a resource of the class and will only get involved at...
FWIW.
Several years ago, Jeremy Laundergan who worked with Pete Melvin on the A2 A-Class design told me that the modern A-Class platform with a uni-rig will hit a "wall" at around 19 knots of boatspeed. There could be some bursts to +20 knots but it would probably require very flat water and...
The videos are very impressive and I wish you guys the best of luck in your development but it's difficult to gauge if you are making any "real" progress until you show video of your boat lining up against a very well sailed Nikita, Scheurer, or DNA. At one point in the video, the boat driver...
Let's make the boat 18.3' long instead of 18' and while we are at it let's change the beam to 7'8" instead of 7' 6" and you know we ought to add a bit of sail area too so let's make that 160 ft2 instead of 150 ft2. And if we're not willing to change our box rule in the name of performance and...
PJ,
Is Roeland sailing with the new J boards in the pictures? It appears the J boards have been proven based on spring race results and I'm assuming Mischa is getting the boat to fly on the stock DNA 2013 setup. If that is the case, it probably points towards J boards being a good all around...
Similar to the Artemis/Oracle AC72 lineups a few months ago, I'd expect the biggest advantage will appear to be approximately same speed as the foil assisted designs but at lower angles (i.e. better depth and better VMG). If you look at the full sequence of the DNA pictures, that appears to be...
Exciting stuff. Need to clarify this is possible only with the new DNA J boards, don't think it is possible with the C boards. This is a great way to sell a lot of C-J daggerboard conversion kits :D !
It makes me wonder if the S-foils on the other new designs (like the Paradox) will be...
I really believe if you want to make progress, you have to have a proven benchmark in your trials. You are at a point where any conclusions (positive or negative) about the performance of the boat need to be based upon having that benchmark present and performing to its fullest potential.
Good...
Thanks for sharing the video! The boat looked stable pitch wise especially in 80% of the video where the water looked pretty bumpy.
Are you sailing with the newer/smaller L rudders?
Wind strength looks around 15 - 18 knots correct?
The attitude and trim of the boat by my eye looks very...
