was wondering if anyone has had water time with the B36?
Am curious as to
1. upwind performance. Is the hull shape a more all around or more towards downwind?
2. Stability? is it pretty stiff? I was expecting a higher ballast to displacement ratio, but perhaps not necessary? Would this boat be...
@Irrational 14, are you planning one sharing your results from the Long Beach to Dana Point race on your Col 30-2? or am I going to have to do it for you?
When I got my high wind jib I went with carbon because the price difference was really small. I think if you're using it once in awhile Dacron works, but if you're sailing in a consistently high wind area, I'd go spend a bit extra.
Just a theory out there, but the SS24 has a pretty wide stern, could it be in lighter wind, sailing it too flat creates too much drag forcing you lower to keep speed up? Did you try I believe what is called the fourth mode where you move forward to press the bow down to give some bite for the...
@GHarring19 , what made you decide to switch from a 99 to a 112e? was it the interior?
I'm currently torn between a 99 and 112(not ready to pull trigger yet but just planning for future), because while I love the 99, I realized that my boat is used 50% for racing, 50% for entertaining and...
I'm not sure what your prices are around where you are, but for where I am, a 36.7 or a 10R is roughly the same price as the 30JK, and I'd look towards the 36.7 or 10r instead. They seem to have a better track record in terms of racing.
I am actually surprised how little reef you needed on your mainsail. I had imagined with 2 up in those wind you'd be on to your second reef to keep the boat flat.
I'm curious how do you guys make your boat go upwind well when single / shorthanded in wind and chop and stay competitive against the fleet? I find that is my weakest area, trying to get upwind in stronger winds and chop.
I had a single burner stove on my port pod. It was in bad shape so I removed it. I think this was what it was https://www.walmart.com/ip/Dometic-ORIGO-1500-Single-Burner-Alcohol-Stove/915808397
If I do end up having a stove, I'll probably think about installing a jet boil or a butane camping...
My sink was attached to a small plastic water tank located under the starboard quarter berth. I removed mine because I wasn't confident I'd use it consistently enough to be able to maintain proper hygiene.
Yes, mine is a 3/4 carbon rig too. I'm getting Irrational to reinforce my chainplate areas before I try to wind more on. My current numbers work ok up to about 10 knots, although I would still like a bit more tension all around to "trade" a bit of downwind performance for upwind performance.
I am using a PT 2 to measure my loads. I don't remember my wire diameter.
Before winding it on, you might want to consult with @Irrational 14. I believe his opinion is that the tension can't be wound on so tight 26/37/32 without some level of reinforcement to the areas around the chainplates...
Without knowing more about how much you want to spend, some nice singlehanded keelboat's I would personally be looking at is the fareast 19 if you want sporty. The Seascape 24 if you want to spend some time sleeping aboard. Or a J22 for a very reasonably priced day sailor. I think these 3 boats...
thanks. I was just wondering about the rating because I thought it would be a crazy low phrf rating due to it's planing ability. My little 30 footer has a really low rating, and starting among 40-45 footers is no fun.
you're not going to be able to fly a Genoa off the jib tack because the spreaders run all the way out to the end. You could tack off the end of the spin pole, but you'll take the rating hit across the full wind range.
The C30 is really light for its size, so on my boat, it's fully powered up...
