I've got an unfair advantage, I've spent the last 2 days nesting the parts for an ali powercat and I'm looking for any excuse not to try and fit another round peg in a square hole.
Making the assumption that Glenn is going to stay in Auckland for the next 3 months and spend most of that time sailing his A, I think it'll be hard to bet against him.
Gluing to honeycomb properly is an art. Without years of experience and things like a wetpreg "machine" you'll often end up filling the cells with resin. For most people Honeycomb should be restricted to pre-preg use only.
Thank Christ.
I can't believe I'm coming back into this...
I think the problem must have been with whatever was being supplied standard on the Mari, not the option. If they can take the load on an F18 or Tornado then a 14' maricat should be easy. The problem with the centre mounted cleat (which I have)...
Can't be bothered justifying it but as far as I know there hasn't been a new racing cat design launched in the last 20 years with the cleat in the middle.
You get a really good snap shot of pricing trends and costs within the A-class game shopping for rudder winglets.
DNA advertised price 125 euro (about AUS$180) per set but they don't reply to emails about them and rumour has it they are now more than 2-3 times that if you do get onto them...
It would be nice to see Gregor Haeberlin get a shot at building an entire boat rather than just rudders. Probably too late for him to have a sorted product in time for the NZ Worlds though.
I don't have any money. You don't make get rich drawing small aluminium boats. If Dario wants to throw money at R&D looking for a breakthrough product in an increasingly crowded market then that's up to him. He'll either make is breakthrough and hopefully make a good profit on the 50 odd...
Seems to have gone from one extreme to another. In can't help but think as a new player he should be looking to make incremental improvements first then start adding "breakthroughs". Ie the path followed by the DNA.
I love the contrast on sailing anarchy. We have a thread discussing ideas that'll make the boat a lot more complicated right above a thread about how to manage all the required tasks to just keep the main well trimmed while tacking.
Raphael (assuming you come back),
welcome and congratulations on your achievements to date. In you post you say "So I have not had time to make all the modifications which allow to present my boat in international regatta" is your boat currently outside the A-class rules, or do you just mean...
1. The AC72 were forced into their design corner by the rules, not because it was better.
2. Making fatter arses redundant only effects the spends end of the A cat fleet who have bought DNAs, the majority of the fleet who still have Buyer ml iv or v or flyer derivatives could update and be...
