The Ocean Race 2023 leg 3: Capetown to Itajaí, Brazil

Malizia's speed over the last hour never got under 20 knots, average 26... Yet, according to the tracker, 11th hour and Biotherm were even quicker ! That's impressive. Again, homogeneity of the fleet is incredible.

The Ocean Race 2023 leg 3: Capetown to Itajaí, Brazil

There is at least one sistership to 11th hour, Maitre Coq. Maybe they can arrange something. It is quite strange to see the supposedly most prepared boat lose both foils and both rudders in the first half of the race.

The Ocean Race 2023 leg 3: Capetown to Itajaí, Brazil

Maybe there is no clear speed advantage, but that will be interesting to see the reliability advantage. Guyot most probably broke due to excessive slamming, which in theory should not happen on Malizia. I would not be surprised to see some boats go in "structural conservation" mode after some...

The Ocean Race 2023 leg 2: Cabo Verde to Capetown

Suggested caption : "This the spare boat for 11th hour in case they're not allowed to fit the old foils"

The Ocean Race 2023 leg 2: Cabo Verde to Capetown

The 558 NM will not be official, as the boat did not carry the necessary equipment for a WSSRC approval (old memory from Charal statement).

The Ocean Race 2023 leg 2: Cabo Verde to Capetown

Guyot is the heaviest boat of the fleet, older generation… I'm not surprised they're behind in light wind conditions.

How about a The Ocean Race thread?

Malizia is a VPLP, not a Manuard (except maybe for the emergency foils that were initially intended for a Manuard boat)

How about a The Ocean Race thread?

On the last update, 11th hour shows an impressive 31,6 kts... Does anyone know over what period of time this speed is calculated ? It seems way too high to be 1h average, could it be something like 5 minutes ?

How about a The Ocean Race thread?

Speaking of which, here is a quick attempt to list all IMOCA teams sites. I couldn't find anything for Biotherm. https://www.11thhourracingteam.org/ https://www.team-malizia.com/ (includes a custom tracker for IMOCA fleet only) https://team-holcimprb.com/ https://www.facebook.com/guyot.teameurope/

    Route du Rhum 2022

On this page (in french) there are 8 of rhum mono boats described : http://histoiredeshalfs.com/2022 Rhum.htm The 4 remaining have a less impressive history...

Strange route for BP... Maybe heading towards brittany for repairs ?

    Route du Rhum 2022

Yes he did, penalty is to be taken during the first 48 hours. So he's probably doing it now (probably not a bad call, at least in 4h time the currents will be helpful).

THE IMOCA thread, single/double handed & TOR

This must be this boat, ex-ACCIONA, ex-offshore team Germany.

    All things Class40

Some information in this article (in french). Skipper is safe. The article explains how the rescue was done, no information about the circumstances of the accident (but indeed this is 179).

How about a The Ocean Race Europe thread?

According to Benjamin Dutreux (navigator on OTG), they will have foils for TOR. Article is in french, here is the translated interesting bit : https://www.tipandshaft.com/imoca/benjamin-dutreux-aujourdhui-on-peut-vendre-de-la-credibilite/

What single person has sailed around ‘Cape Horn’ the most?

Maybe Dominique Wavre too ? 7 finished RTW races (4 vendee + 3 whitbread/volvo), plus BWR 2011 (dismasted but it was back in Atlantic). I read somewhere that Vendee 2013 was his ninth in race setting but can't find the last one. Edit : 10 times according to...
